Manufacturer s declaration This product has been manufactured in accordance with the documents that constitute the basis for product certification and the relevant criteria for production control. Requirements relating to the flue For both rear flue connections and top flue connections the chimney must be able to withstand temperatures of at least 350 C. Warning! When the stove is in use certain surfaces become very hot. Physical contact with these surfaces can cause skin burns. Pay particular attention also to the high temperatures of the heat radiated through the glass door. Do not place combustible material closer than the recommended safe distances. Failure to observe these safe distances can result in an uncontrolled fire. A smouldering fire can cause gases and fumes to ignite without warning, with the risk of causing damage to both persons and property. IMPORTANT! Always contact your local authority planning office before installing a wood-burning stove or fire-place. The owner of the house is personally responsible for ensuring compliance with the mandatory safety requirements and must have the installation approved by a qualified inspector. Your local chimney sweep must also be informed about the installation as this will affect the routines for regular chimney-sweeping services. No. 043-104 German standard DIN 18.891, RO-91 01 319 Danish standard 887-1, id no 598 Building permission It may be necessary for you to apply for building permission from your local planning authority before installing a stove or erecting a chimney. Before starting installation work, make sure that you check which regulations apply. Structural support Check to make sure that the floor is strong enough to support the weight of the stove and chimney. If you intend to locate the stove on standard wooden floor joists, contact a professional builder to make sure that the construction will withstand the load. If the total weight does not exceed 400 kilos, it is not usually necessary to reinforce the joists. Floor plate To protect the floor from sparks and falling embers the stove must stand on a non-combustible surface which extends at least 300 mm in front of the stove and 100 mm along each side. As other statutory requirements apply in some countries, we recommend that you consult the relevant authority or an authorised chimney-sweep in your area. Chimney The stove requires a draft in the chimney of at least 12 Pa. The draught is affected both by the length and area of the chimney, and by how well sealed it is. Minimum recommended chimney length is 3.5 m and a suitable cross section area is 150-200 cm² (140-160 mm in diameter). Carefully check that the chimney is sealed and that there is no leakage around soot hatches and flue connections. Note that a flue with sharp bends and horizontal routing reduces the draught in the chimney. Maximum horizontal flue is 1 m, on the condition that the vertical flue length is at least 5 m. It must be possible to sweep the full length of the flue and the soot hatches must be easily accessible. Fire-bars Smoke baffle Grate disc Cast-iron fire-bed Fire-box surround Ash-pan with lid 50

Installation distance from walls and ceiling. Position the stove on a hearth plate and check that the installation distances given in the diagrams are met. When top connecting a steel flue please refer to the relevant manufacturer s installation instructions. Observe the safety distances to combustible material A = height from floor to chimney connection. B = height from floor to c/c smoke outlet rear C = height from floor to air inlet. D = height from floor to lower edge door GB that steel flues require. The minimum distance between the stove opening and combustible parts of the building or décor must be at least 1 m. F = height from floor to upper edge door All dimensions are in millimetres. 655 Combustible Brännbart tak ceiling Important! Supply of combustion air Combustion air can be provided directly via a duct from outside, or indirectly via a vent in the outer wall of the room where the stove is to be placed. Some installation alternatives are shown to the right. When installing the supply air hose on the air inlet, the heat deflector panel must be installed under the insert. The air duct connection on the stove has an external diameter of Ø64 mm. There are two knockouts on the stove for routing the supply air hose, one in the back panel and one in the base plate. LEK Indirectly through the outside wall. LEK Through the outside wall. Tap out the knockout using a hammer. Important! In hot areas the duct should be insulated with 30 mm mineral wool covered with a moisture inhibitor (plastic). It is important that the lead-in between the pipe and the wall (or floor) is sealed using jointing compound. When pipe routing for further than 1 m the pipe diameter must be increased to 100 mm and a correspondingly larger wall vent must be selected. A 1 m length of condensation insulated ducting for combustion air is available as an accessory. Through the floor and crawl space. LEK 30 mm LEK Through the floor and plate on ground. 52

Unpacking Leave the insert screwed to the pallet. Place accompanying parts to one side. Remove the loose parts from the insert, i.e. the fire bars, cladding, grate plate and ash-pan. Then remove the insert from the pallet. Important! The insert may tip forward before the base plate is installed. Therefore, after the loose components have been removed, remove the insert from the pallet. LEK LEK Move the smoke baffle up and remove the sidepiece. Lower the smoke baffle and remove the remaining pieces. Lift the grate plate at one of its edges from the lugs. Remove the ash-pan with cover. Leave the parts disassembled until the base has been installed and the stove has been positioned. Reinstall the parts in reverse order when the stove has been constructed and is in position. 53

LEK GB Connection to the chimney Refer to the chimney s installation instructions to install the chimney. The following describes how the chimney is connected to the stove. The insert is prepared for top connection at delivery. When connecting from the rear, the cover and connection must be swapped around. Rearwards to a masonry chimney Mark out centre for making a hole in the wall to the flue. Check that the connection height in the chimney breast corresponds to the height of the connection pipe from the stove. Cut a hole approximately 180 mm in diameter and then cement in a wall connector with fireproof mortar (not supplied). Let the mortar dry before the stove is connected to the chimney. LEK Install the connection pipe on the connection. Make sure that the gasket does not work loose from its position. Caulk between the connection pipe and the connector in the wall using caulking rope. If further sealing material is required, heat-resistant sealant may be used. Top connection Install the start pipe on the connection. Make sure that the gasket on the connection does not work loose from its position. If further sealing material is required, heat-resistant sealant may be used. Important! At the top connection, it is important that the hot air grille is installed before the chimney. 54

Installing the surround Contura 655 GB 655 Place the back of the insert on the pallet. Install the base with the four Allen screws; screw them into place from the inside of the legs in the base s securing eyelets. To facilitate installation, the screws that secure the legs in the insert can be slackened off. Tighten the screws after the insert has been placed on a flat surface. Important! The heat deflector panel under the insert must be installed in case the space is used for wood storage. The heat deflector panel can be removed by turning it to the left until the panel is released from the lower screws that secure the legs in the insert. Hook the heat deflector back onto the screws by turning to the right. The front angle irons are installed with two crosshead screws each. The rear angle irons are installed with crosshead screws and nuts in the inner hole on the firebox. Install the back panel between the mountings in the stove using four sheet metal screws. Tap out the knockout from the back panel at the rear connection using a hammer. The upper screws secure the angle iron and back panel in the rear of the stove. 55

LEK LEK LEK GB 655 Hold the side panel approximately 20 mm above the base panel and turn the side panel s front edge around the edge of the leg. Align and depress the side panel end over the base panel s shaft pin. Use crosshead screws with washers to secure the side panels. Adjust the side panels so that they lie against the insert at the front edge and against the back panel at the rear edge. Install the steel shelf, soapstone shelf or oven according to the instructions in the section for the respective accessory on pages 60 and 61. This must be done before the steel or soapstone top is installed. Rating plates Rating plates The rating plate with the production number is on the leg at the front edge, on the left. The rating plate with installation distances is on the reverse, either on the inside or outside. 56

Installing the surround Contura 685 GB 685 Unpack the column kit. On the reverse of the column there is a removable cover, this is used when installing the combustion air connection. Place the insert with the back on the pallet and unscrew the eight screws for the support legs. Remove the support legs and the heat deflector panel and install the column with the four screws. Reinstall the four remaining screws in the upper holes, so that airdoes not leak into the firebox. Tighten the screws when the insert has been placed on the pallet and is flat. Rating plates The rating plates with production number and installation distance are located underneath the column. 57
