MAY 2 - FULL DAY TOLEDO Toledo is set 44 miles south of Madrid. The whole town is a national monument. As you walk through the mass of tiny streets, surrounded by Gothic and Renaissance buildings, you can really feel the history. The historic center has churches, synagogues and palaces. Indeed Toledo is an immense living museum housing some of Spain s best artistic treasures. The cathedral. Its construction began in 1227. MAY 2 - FULL DAY SEGOVIA Segovia is a charming town which will amaze you with its historical buildings. Among these, a beautiful Castle sitting on the mountain side decorated with towers, turrets and peaks. Moreover, the Cathedral of Segovia, the last great gothic cathedral built in Spain. It was started in the 16th century and not completed until the end of the 17th century. Nevertheless, the most emblematic building of Segovia is an impressive Roman aqueduct. This awe-inspiring structure runs right through the center of the town, and buildings are within a few yards of it: main thoroughfares pass through its arches. The aqueduct was rewarded the name of Historical-artistic monument in 1884 by a Royal order, name which was afterwards given to several monuments of the city. CATEDRAL & GIRALDA The Cathedral of Seville, formally Cathedral de Santa María de la Sede was begun in 1402, with construction continuing into the 16th century. It is the largest of all Roman Catholic cathedrals and also the largest Medieval Gothic religious building, in terms of both area and volume. It is 76 by 115 meters, and was built to cover the land previously occupied by the Almohad Mosque. Its main altarpiece is considered the largest in the Christian world. The Cathedral also has a large collection of religious jewelry items, paintings and sculptures, along with the tomb of Christopher Columbus. The Giralda is a bell tower of the Seville Cathedral.
