Wordsworth s homes at Dove Cottage and Rydal Mount near Ambleside, Beatrix Potter s Hill Top house at Sawrey and watercolour collection at the Armitt Museum in Ambleside are well worth a visit, not forgetting beautiful Brantwood by Coniston Water, where John Ruskin thought and wrote.

HOW TO FIND US... From the south, take the M6 to junction 36 and follow the A591 through Windermere and Ambleside, to Grasmere, take the first turning off the mini-roundabout into the village. From the north, take the M6 to junction 40, head west on the A66 and turn onto the A591, signposted St John s in the Vale, continue south and take the first turning into Grasmere village.
