Pilgrimage to Ireland with Father Steve Williams & Father Louis Lohan 10 Days ~ 8 Nights October 3 rd 12 th 2018 Wed 3 rd Oct: Heading for the Emerald Isle Today you start your journey by flying across the United States and taking an overnight flight across the Atlantic Sea to arrive in Ireland. Thu 4 th Oct: Welcome to Ireland This morning we will land in Dublin Airport and once you proceed through to the arrivals area, you will be met and transferred to your first destination, Roscommon Town in Co. Roscommon, an area formerly at the center of Ireland s coal mining industry which is today famed for its lakelands, culture and heritage. We journey to reach Roscommon Town which is situated in the midst of rich pasture lands and noted for its cattle and sheep. We will check into our hotel and you are then free to explore your new surroundings in the county town of Co. Roscommon which in 2017, won its first ever gold medal at the Tidy Towns Awards, an award recognizing local efforts to not only present a beautiful town but also a superior standard of community engagement. Enjoy your afternoon at leisure and by the end of today, you may agree that the locals here, known as Rossies, are indeed fun and passionate people you may greet as strangers but leave as friends. Return to the hotel to meet the group to depart for mass with Father Steve Williams and Father Louis Lohan at the beautiful Sacred Heart Church and afterwards, we will share dinner together at the hotel, toasting to the start of this special tour of Ireland. Overnight: The Abbey Hotel (D) Fri 5 th Oct: Next Stop Galway Finish up your full Irish breakfast this morning as we prepare to depart Roscommon to embark on new adventures in eccentric Galway, known as The City of Tribes after the 14 family tribes that founded it, which has something for everyone to enjoy. On route, we will journey through the haunting landscapes and wild beauty of neighboring County Mayo. Our first stop in Mayo takes us to visit the Marian Shrine in Knock, which received international fame after local people reported seeing the Virgin Mary, www.caragrouptravel.com 1 617-639-0273

St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist at their parish church on August 21, 1879. Today, we will hear the remarkable story of Knock, which is told here in great detail, as well as the stories of all the ordinary people who witnessed the Apparition in 1879. Fr Williams and Fr Lohan will celebrate mass here and we will enjoy time for our own prayers and personal reflection. Next, we journey onto the national monument of Ballintubber Abbey. The story of Ballintubber Abbey began in 441 when St Patrick baptized the people at the Druidic Well and established a church here. There are still remains of that early church in the graveyard and the Irish name, Baile Tobair Phádraig, meaning the townland of St Patrick s Well. From Ballintubber, you can enjoy views of Croagh Patrick, considered the holiest mountain in Ireland. Croagh Patrick is renowned for its Patrician Pilgrimage in honor of Saint Patrick as it was on the summit of the mountain that Saint Patrick fasted for forty days in 441 AD and the custom has been faithfully handed down from generation to generation. After an eventful day, we will journey onto Galway City to check into our hotel where you will meet the group later for dinner and to relax in your surroundings. Overnight: Connemara Coast Hotel (B, D) Sat 6 th Oct: The Wildest of the West Following breakfast, we set out to explore the two sides of Galway. First, we will take a panoramic sightseeing tour of the city. As we will see today, Galway is a vibrant place, full of life and character found through its famous streets, landmarks, pubs and restaurants. Next, we will explore a unique area of Galway known as Connemara. This is a wild region of Galway which comprises of bog land, pristine lakes and mountains is sparsely populated and the landscape is much more open. Because the area is so remote, the Irish language and traditions have survived here and Irish is the first tongue of many of the inhabitants. www.caragrouptravel.com 2 617-639-0273

On our tour today, we will also visit Kylemore Abbey, a former girl s boarding school that is now in the care of the Benedictine nuns and is one of the oldest Abbeys in Ireland. Its Gothic Church built in 1881 is beautiful and interesting with its Crypt and carved angelic gargoyles. The dramatic landscape and iconic image of a gothic castle reflected in a Connemara Lake has made Kylemore Abbey world-famous and it is now the largest tourist attraction in the west of Ireland. Following this, we will return to the hotel to share dinner together and the rest of the evening as you wish. Overnight: Connemara Coast Hotel (B, D) Sun 7 th Oct: Fr Louis Irish Family, Irish Friends & Memories for a Lifetime! This day will write its own adventures. Ireland is known as the place of a hundred thousand welcomes. Today we will experience that and so much more. We will spend an unforgettable day in Fr. Louis hometown village of Lisquell, Co. Galway. We receive a very special Welcome Home from Father Louis family, friends and neighbors. This is Ireland at its best, its people. We will walk the land, visiting the family homestead, which has belonged to the Lohan family for approximately 150 years. We will celebrate mass with our priests in the home church of Fr Lohan in Newbridge where he was baptized, received his First Holy Communion, served as an Altar Boy and said his first mass after being ordained. Enjoy a wonderful afternoon in Lisquell, touring a working farm and a delicious lunch served by the Lohan clan. After an eventful day, we will return to the hotel where you are free to enjoy at leisure your last night in the iconic city of Galway. Connemara Coast Hotel (B, L) Mon 8 th Oct: The Mighty Cliffs of Moher Enjoy breakfast this morning and get ready to bid Galway farewell in search of new adventures in Co. Clare, glorious by its coastal location which combines spectacular windswept landscapes and vibrant Irish culture. We journey south of Galway to reach Liscannor in Co. Clare, www.caragrouptravel.com 3 617-639-0273

stopping here to visit one of Ireland s most famous attractions. Today we will visit the iconic Cliffs of Moher which stand over 700 feet high at the highest point and range for over 5 miles over the Atlantic Ocean. Spectacular views are in abundance here, on a clear day you can see the Aran Islands and Galway Bay as well as The Twelve Pins, the Maum Turk Mountains in Connemara and Loop Head to the South. We proceed onto Newmarket on Fergus, which as the name implies, is situated on the banks of the slender and fast-moving River Fergus which flows east then south into the Shannon Estuary. We will check into our hotel and enjoy our surroundings here. In the evening, we will prepare for a unique dining experience. We will make our way to the wonderful and enchanting Knappogue Castle, a 15 th century restored medieval town house amid the rolling hills of Quin. Turn back the clock to Irish medieval times at The Castle Banquet featuring a colorful evening of music, song, and dance toasting the Kings of Ireland through an entire evening of excellent food and wines. Afterwards, we will return to our hotel to spend the rest of the evening as you wish. Overnight: The Inn at Dromoland (B, D) Tue 9 th Oct: Introducing Adare & Killarney Once breakfast is over, we will bid Co. Clare farewell in search of new adventures in Killarney Co. Kerry, known as The Kingdom and one of the most famous and beautiful of Ireland s 32 counties. We journey south to reach Killarney, stopping in Co. Limerick on route to visit one of Ireland s most idyllic villages. Today on tour, we see Adare dubbed Ireland s prettiest village and after driving through this Heritage Town of Ireland, you may just agree with that unofficial title. An architectural wealth of scenic beauty, Adare s main street is punctuated with beautiful stone buildings, medieval monasteries, ruins and a picturesque village park. We will stop in Adare to celebrate mass with Fr Williams and Fr Lohan at Holy Trinity Abbey Church. We will then journey onwards to Killarney to check in to our hotel to relax and enjoy dinner together and the rest of the evening in one of Ireland s famously lively towns. Overnight: Killarney Plaza Hotel (B, D) www.caragrouptravel.com 4 617-639-0273

Wed 10 th Oct: Exclusively Kerry Refuel on a hearty breakfast as we will set out to explore the beauty of an area that has attracted visitors for centuries. We travel west of Killarney to visit the Ring of Kerry, a majestic circular loop that pairs overwhelming natural beauty with immersive heritage attractions, a true jewel in the Kingdom of Kerry s crown. Along this route you will pass through vast glacial valleys (Moll s Gap) and see Skellig Island, a UNESCO World Heritage site known throughout the world of archaeology as the site of a well-preserved monastic outpost of the Early Christian period and in the world of Hollywood, a featured scenes in Star Wars: The Force Awakens. See mystical & unspoilt countryside surrounded by spectacular beauty with mountains, lakes, woods and rugged coastline dotted around the 110 mile route. The Ring of Kerry also provides an amazing insight into Ireland s ancient heritage - see the Iron Age Forts & Ogham Stones, Old Monasteries and a landscape carved out of rock by the last Ice Age 10,000 years ago. The tour concludes at the hotel where we shall celebrate mass with Fr Williams and Fr Lohan and later, you are free to spend the rest of your day as you please. Overnight: Killarney Plaza Hotel (B) Thu 11 th Oct: Last Stops on the Emerald Isle This morning, finish your breakfast and bid farewell to Killarney as we prepare to embark on a luxurious stay in Carton House in Co. Kildare, a former estate and great house that was the ancestral seat of the Earls of Kildare and Dukes of Leinster. On route, we will stop in the village of Blarney in Co. Cork to visit the Blarney Castle & Gardens. It is here where you can gain the Gift of the Gab at the famous Blarney Stone. According to Irish folklore, anyone who kisses the stone receives the ability to speak with eloquence, or The Gift of the Gab as you may have heard over your stay on the Emerald Isle. Explore the beautiful grounds and once you have walked up an appetite for shopping, head inside the Blarney Woolen Mills - 30,000 square feet of retail space within one of www.caragrouptravel.com 5 617-639-0273

Ireland s oldest and most authentic woolen mills to enjoy an Irish shopping experience here. Following this, we will travel east to arrive in Maynooth for check at Carton House, the 1,100-acre private parkland estate with a history that dates back to 1170. Queen Victoria stayed in the famous Chinese Room on her visits (1849 & 1897), along with Grace Kelly who stayed while on holidays with Prince Rainier and her young family. Peter Sellars lived in one of the wings of the house for many years in the 1970s. Carton House has also been the location of many movies including Scarlet, the sequel to Gone with the Wind as well as Barry Lydon, Aristocrats and The Treaty.
