Chamonix, Mont Blanc, France Situated near the massive peaks of the Aiguilles Rouges and most notably the Aiguille du Midi, Chamonix is one of the oldest ski resorts in France and is known as the "gateway to the European Cascades." Chamonix is the fourth largest commune in mainland France. Chamonix is home to one of the highest cable cars in the world. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: Water: Water is similar to Canada. Bottled water is available. Crime: Is still safer here than in many American cities. Precautions include not flaunting valuables, or walking alone at night through city streets or parks. Watch for pick pockets. Taxis: Taxi fees are usually negotiated with the driver ahead of time. Do not accept rides in cabs that already have a rider. See tour Guide for recommend Taxi Company. Tipping: is increasingly expected at restaurants. Tip 10-15% depending on service. Always check bill. Electricity: throughout is 220 volt/50 hz. The plug is the two-pin thin European standard. Be sure to bring your own converter as most places may not carry them. Currency: All prices in Euro s. Currency can be freely converted at banks, hotels or kiosks specifically for tourists. ATM is the most common means of currency. Rates are better through the ATM. Credit, ATM Cards: Please make sure you notify your bank prior to departure that these cards will be used in Europe. Telephones: Best bet is to use the phone at your hotel. Sim cards and Euro phones can be purchased. Skype is free. Time: is GMT +6. Medical Care: Remember to bring any medications you may need. TRAVEL TIPS Visas: Are not required and Travel has become easier than ever. Passport: Current within 6 months. You may need to surrender your passport to the front desk. Team leader collects passports and hand in by room (Important). Please make a photo copy of Passport information page. Keep in safe place. Letters: Consent letters - require 2 copies from Parent not travelling Insurance: Travel Insurance is highly recommended. Baggage Charges: 1 bag, not to exceed 50 pounds, carry on 22 pounds. Standard. A checked bag can be up to 90cm x 75cm x 43cm (35.5in x 29.5in x 16in) including any bits that stick out, like the handle, pockets and wheels.
