2.15 5.00 Excursion to Villa Cimbrone. Meet at our lecture venue, the Ravello Art Center, after lunch and we will walk together to the garden. Those interested in sketching should bring a small sketchbook and pen. Also, bring a notebook for writing. There will also be playreadings of Shakespearean Pastoral (excerpts from As You Like It ) - Maddalena Pennacchia. Day 4 Thursday 20 July 9.00-1.00 Optional Excursion: On Forster s Trail towards Fontana Carosa : Pasquale Palumbo (Consorzio Ravello Sense) and Maddalena Pennacchia will lead a guided walk in the footsteps of EM Forster the walk that inspired his first piece of writing, The Story of a Panic. Wear trekking shoes and bring your pocket lunch. Moderate fitness required. Alternatively, you may prefer to spend the morning exploring Ravello or the nearby village of Scala (to be reached by bus in 10 minutes) and then join us for the afternoon session. The special price for the participants in the Summer School is 35 euros. The lunch will be an opportunity to share any reflections, poetry, diary entries or sketches from the week. This will give you plenty of ideas for the Ravello Tales Literary Prize competition organised by the Centro Universitario Europeo per i Beni Culturali. After lunch there will be free time to explore Ravello. Saturday 22 July Optional excursion: 9.00 1.00 Excursion - From Ravello to Amalfi Pasquale Palumbo and Maddalena Pennacchia will lead a guided walk through the valle delle Ferriere (the route of the Mills for making paper and of the old ironworks) with a visit to the Duomo of Amalfi. Moderate fitness required. Alternatively, you may prefer to take the bus from Ravello to Amalfi and meet us there for lunch (details of how to do this will be provided; it takes about 30 mins; timetable available at: http://theamalficoast.online/orari_sita_bus_timetables.html ). 1.00 2.30 lunch in Amalfi 2.30 5.00 After lunch in Amalfi, there is the option of a boat trip to see the coast and visit a pebbled beach for swimming (details and cost of boat to be provided closer to the time). Suggestion for the evening: there will be fireworks in the nearby village of Atrani for the celebration of Saint Mary Magdalen (Atrani is about a 15 minutes walk from Amalfi). We can have dinner and then return to Ravello (by bus or taxi). Sunday 23 July (Optional) mini bus back to Rome, leaving Ravello in the morning; arriving mid-afternoon (details of time and cost to be provided). 5
