- CC CAQ Inc Ne ewslett ter Quarterly newsletter of the Celtic Council of Australia (Qld) Inc. 2015 No 3 Jul - Sep 2015 President s Message Mavis Williams D Ua Hello I would like Inaugural to thank all those members who attended the Annual CCAQ Morning Tea and Annual General Meeting held on 25 th July 2015 at Coorparoo RSL Club. It was a cordial event and I would like to congratulate Grace Roberts, Ian Campbell and Ian Kaye on their election to the committee and welcome them to the Committee. I believe that committee harmony will be important for the committee to function properly. If members have issues that they wish to put forward, they should be put in writing or brought to a meeting for consideration by the Committee. We have a busy year ahead and a harmonious Committee will allow us to build on the successes of last year. Those include our Christmas Party, Annual Celtic Awards Dinner and a new initiative of a mid-winter Sunday gathering. In June this year a function was held at the residence of President Mavis and Bruce Williams to recognize more than a decade of service of CCAQ Patron Mr Bill Hanley OAM CyC. After a number of tributes, Bill was presented with a gift and a decorativee Certificate of appreciation. The afternoon was a wonderful event for bringing friends together, and fostering comradeships. Many thanks to all those people who went beyond their call of duty to help make this event so successful. We are hoping to continue holding an Annual CCAQ Friendship Day, in June of each year, to foster Celtic Friendships, to make this Queensland Celtic Council, bigger and better, and to continue to enjoy each others company. In this world to-day, we must do this to survive, and to keep this organisation active. As your President, my focus is on making Celtic Council of Australia Queensland a group full of happiness, harmony, and peace together, and for it to continue to have only positive aspirations. If we all pull together, this will happen. Your dedicated President, Mavis K Williams CCAQ Christmas Party at Coorparoo RSL Services Club Harries Road, Coorparoo Saturday 21 st November at 11.30 am Please contact Mavis Williams (3849 8271)

Highlights of President s Report 25th July 2015 I am pleased to report that the past twelve months has been another busy year for the Celtic Council of Australia Queensland (Inc). The CCAQ Christmas Party was held in the Coorparoo RSL Club with representation from many kindred Celtic groups. Around 80 guests enjoyed the entertainment and festivities. The CCAQ signature Awards Dinner, in April was held this year at Easts Leagues Club, Coorparoo. A very good attendance saw a total of six awards presented to Cornish, Manx, Scots and Welsh recipients. Celtic entertainment was provided by young Harpist, Eilish McDiarmid, the Thistle School of Highland Dancing and the Queensland Irish Pipe Band led by Pipe Major Bruce Grice. Well done to all. Guest Speaker Mr Rory McCrudden from Sydney, who spoke on Celtic History, Heritage and Customs. Our third CCAQ event was a lunch and presentation to our loyal Patron Mr Bill Hanley OAM CyC, at the residence of President Mavis and Bruce Williams. Bill was presented with a lovely gift of a Fountain Pen and a decorative Certificate for his many years of service as Patron of CCAQ. Music was supplied by pipers, Mr Alan Hancox on electronic organ, Doug Thoresen on guitar, Jack Dearie on small pipes and Bill's grandson Dominic Ward, with guitar, singing for him. Many thanks to all those who made the afternoon such a wonderful event. We are planning to continue holding an Annual CCAQ Friendship Day, in June of each year, to foster Celtic Friendships and build CCAQ Inc. My focus is on making the Celtic Council of Australia Queensland, a group full of happiness, harmony, and peace together, and for it to continue to have only positive aspirations. If we all pull together, this will happen. CCAQ Inc membership has been boosted to around 135 members. As your President, I represented CCAQ at the Australian Celtic Festival in Glen Innes. Tartan Day and Scotland in the Park also have CCAQ representation this year. Our initiative to erect a Monument to the Celts in Brisbane is making good progress. New CCAQ member and new Greenslopes MP Joe Kelly has offered his support. I hope all members will give this project all the support they are able, as it will benefit all our Celtic organisations. All of this will let you know that your Committee Members have been busy this past year, promoting the Celtic Council of Australia Queensland, (Inc). Many thanks to my Committee Members for their loyal support and help throughout the past year and thanks to CCAQ members for your ongoing support.
