LIGHT PROJECTIONS AT GLOBAL CAMPAIGN LAUNCH Tourism Australia has embraced the latest in virtual reality (VR) and 360 technology as part of its latest marketing push, focusing on Australia s aquatic and coastal experiences, in a bid to lure more international visitors to Australia. This new creative, the latest instalment in Tourism Australia s global There s Nothing like Australia campaign, was revealed at its New York premiere on Australia Day eve. Guests at the event were treated to immersive virtual reality displays and aquatic themed images being projected onto the city s famous Bryant Park Winter Village ice rink. An immersive aquarium experience was also created at the venue, with projections of rich video content of Australian coastal aquatic life and audio background sounds. Production company AGB Events, sourced content from multiple platforms to produce the completely bespoke and immersive experience, underpinning the campaign s sentiment of Australia being a place you can feel. Anthony Bastic, Director AGB events, said: Through digital imagery projections we transformed Bryant park ice rink into the blue southern ocean, with whales swimming, body boarders paddling and warm tropical waters of the Great Barrier Reef you can really feel the transformation of a holiday in Australia. BESPOKE PROJECTION CONTENT Footage from Tourism Australia s new TVC, VR and 360 content, featuring more than a dozen distinct aquatic and coastal locations around the country, was featured in the projections. Experiences from each of the Australian states and territories included paddle boarding with whales in Esperance, Western Australia; coastal hiking at Three Capes, Tasmania; swimming at Milk Beach in Sydney, New South Wales and others. User generated content (UGC) from Tourism Australia s social media fans also featured in the light projections, with incredible scenery of leaping dolphins, playful sea lions and paddle boarding with enormous whales; together with footage contributed by Tourism Australia s STO partners, key tourism operators and from Sir David Attenborough s Great Barrier Reef documentary filming. We re so proud to showcase footage of our backyard in an iconic city like New York, said tourism operator Ben Forbes, Marketing Manager, Tangalooma Island Resort. To be able to share the natural beauty of our region with the world is an absolute privilege, and we feel it illustrates the coastal and aquatic appeal of Australia as a whole in many ways. Tourism Australia s Chief Marketing Officer Lisa Ronson, said: This campaign is about showcasing content produced by Australian tourism businesses, international visitors and the Australian people through our social and digital channels on a size and scale never before seen in destination marketing. Ultimately, it is about creating stronger linkages between consumers and tourism product and in turn converting the massive interest in Australia into more visits. 1
EVENT LIGHT PROJECTIONS Walk in aquarium wall experience, Celcius The arrivals and walk in experience to the premiere event transported guests from an icy New York winter s night to a warm, tropical vibe, with water ripple effect lighting washing across the floor and ceiling. The effect of a large aquarium was created via a 15 metre themed wall with insets of large plasma screens featuring bespoke, rich video content of Australian coastal aquatic life. The footage sequence on each of the screens flowed to the next seamlessly, creating the illusion of a vast aquarium. The audio complementing the aquarium scenery was localised, meaning the closer guests were to the aquarium windows, the louder the audio. Ice Rink, Bryant Park Winter Village The ten minute loop of bespoke projection mapped video delivered a diverse range of Australian coastalaquatic experiences, loosely following a journey around Australia's coastal circumference, and celebrating environments from oceans, to beaches, land, rivers, forests and waterfalls.
