VICTORINOX MILESTONES 1884 With the active support of his mother Victoria, Karl Elsener I opens a cutler s workshop in Ibach-Schwyz. two words Victoria and Inox gives the name of the company and brand today Victorinox. 1979 The sole proprietorship Messerfabrik Carl Elsener is changed into the family company Victorinox AG. 1891 Karl Elsener I establishes the Association of Swiss Master Cutlers and, as a result, is able to deliver the rst major order of soldier s knives to the Swiss Army. 1897 The Original Swiss Of cer s and Sports Knife is patented. Today, it is known all over the world as the Swiss Army Knife. 1909 Following the death of his mother, Karl Elsener launches the brand name Victoria as a tribute to his mother and registers the emblem with the Cross and Shield as a trademark. It is now a registered trademark in more than 120 countries. 1921 The invention of stainless steel is a signi cant development for the cutlery industry. Inox is the international term for stainless steel. The combination of the 1931 Carl Elsener II introduces automation in the company. In 1931, Victorinox commissions the company Brown Boveri to set up the world s rst fully electric hardening plant in Ibach. This means that all knives can be guaranteed to be of a consistent high quality. 1945 The Swiss Army Knife starts on its journey to conquer the world. The U.S. soldiers stationed in Europe buy it in large quantities and it becomes a popular souvenir to take home. 1950 After the death of his father, Carl Elsener III takes the company s management into its third generation. 1984 The company doubles its manufacturing and of ce space. 810 employees generate sales of over 80 million Swiss francs. 1989 Under its Swiss Army brand, Victorinox enters the North American watch business with its U.S. sales partner at the time. 1992 Victorinox opens its rst sales subsidiary in Japan. Others are added in subsequent years. 1999 Victorinox joins forces with the American TRG Group in St. Louis as licensee and enters the international travel gear market. 4

The Original Swiss Soldier s Knife of 1891 The Original Swiss Officer s and Sports Knife, patented in 1897 2000 The Victorinox Foundation is established. It holds 90% of the share capital of Victorinox AG. A further 10% is held by the charitable Carl and Elise Elsener-Gut Foundation. 2001 Victorinox launches a clothing line in the USA and the rst Victorinox store opens in New York s SoHo district. 2005 Victorinox acquires the wellestablished Swiss knife and watch manufacturer Wenger SA in Delémont and allows it to operate as an independent subsidiary. 2007 Carl Elsener IV takes over the running of the business from his father and further expands Victorinox as a global multi-product brand. 2007 Following the establishment of Victorinox Swiss Army Fragrance AG, the former Wenger perfume line is repositioned. 2008 Victorinox opens its rst agship store in Europe on New Bond Street in London. 2013 Victorinox integrates the Wenger knife business into the Victorinox brand. 2013 Carl Elsener III dies on June 1st, shortly before his 91st birthday. 2014 Victorinox acquires the travel gear business from the previous licensee TRG Group and establishes the new business unit Victorinox Travel Gear AG. 2014 The company celebrates its 130th anniversary. 2016 Victorinox establishes a presence in the international watch business by investing in the development of a watch competence center in Delémont. 2017 Victorinox produces their 500 millionth pocket knife. Today Victorinox is now managed by the fourth generation of the Elsener family. The product range is now available at more than 50 000 points of sale around the world. TAMPONPRINT Today, over 90% of the printing jobs we carry out at Victorinox use the tamponprint process (pad printing). Whether it s spot color printing using up to 6 colors, or 4-color photo printing (CMYK), your logo will meet your CI guidelines exactly. In both procedures, color is lifted with an elastic stamp from a steel plate (with an etched-in image) and transferred to the object to be printed. Exception: Evolution only with 1-color pad print PROTECTIVE LACQUER All pad printing on Cellidor scales is protected with a high-gloss lacquer. Thanks to this hard lacquer, the prints are highly resistant to abrasion and chemical substances. This procedure is environmentally friendly and the lacquer is food safe. The protective lacquer increases the abrasion stability of the prints by a factor of > 100. Applicable on: Cellidor brilliant Exceptions: Scales including ballpoint pen or LED switch, Evolution, Silver Tech 20

INSCRIPTIONS DIGITAL PRINT We have used this procedure to successfully enhance our pad printing process for some time now. This new printing solution is most suitable for full-panel printing and halftones and/or nely detailed prints. It is mainly used for the areas where pad printing reaches the limits of its capability. Since pre-printing procedures such as the development of color separations or plates are unnecessary, this process is eco-friendly. Moreover, digital information can be stored or modi ed more easily. Digital prints are also treated with our benchmark protective lacquer technology, which enables an increase in the abrasion stability by a factor of > 100. The same application exceptions apply to digital printing as for pad printing. Matt Nylon 111 mm, two-component 111 mm and the Golf Tool are not compatible for digital printing as of now. In addition, the colors silver and gold cannot be reproduced via digital printing. 21

DIGITAL HAPTIC 3D Printing is generally a two-dimensional medium and also optically at, since up to now the digital processes were limited to colored inks. It was only recently, with the introduction of clear ink, that unique new enhancement options became possible: Raised surfaces that feel realistic to the touch, such as canvas, leather, animal skin, etc., convey a completely new tactile look and a 3D experience, while maintaining the bene ts of regular digital printing. High-gloss is not a must, since the lacquer also comes in a semi-gloss and matt nish. However, since the clear lacquer is applied to selected areas, the additional Victorinox protective coating can no longer be utilized. The abrasion stability is still high and is not degraded by the clear lacquer in any way. 22

INSCRIPTIONS ETCHING The perfect procedure to decorate all blades and Swiss Tool scales with permanent adornments. The inscription takes place by electrolytic oxidation (electrolyte and etching current). The decoration appears in anthracite/dark grey and offers outstanding durability. 23

LASER ENGRAVING Laser engraving is suitable for a range of surfaces. On wood and rubber, this decoration method creates a perception of depth, making it perceptible to the touch. On metal, the lettering and logos appear on the surface in an anthracite/grey color. In general, the laser engraving features high wear resistance. 24

INSCRIPTIONS IMPRINT ON ALOX SCALES A silicone stamp is used to transfer ink from the engraved steel printing block to electrochemically treated and thus microscopically porous aluminum scales. The surface is then sealed and the ink particles become enclosed in a wafer-thin anodized layer. This anodized layer is scratch- and impact-resistant. Multi-color printing of imprints is also possible with this process. Color matching with customer-speci c colors is limited. For imprints on Alox knives, the imprint area is located on the back. Exceptions: Imprint in white is not possible 25

METAL INLAY The logos and wording are created photochemically with chromium steel and then pressed at high temperatures ush into the scales. This imprinting method features long-lasting durability and a high-quality appearance. Exceptions: Transparent scales, scales with LED switch, scales including ballpoint pen 26

INSCRIPTIONS HOT STAMPING Stamping a design is done with the help of a brass die stamp and stamp transfer foil, as well as with heat and pressure. Suitable for 1-color reproduction of simple logos and narrow fonts. Colors: Silver, white, gold, blue, red, black, and green (standard colors only) For small quantities, 5 standard fonts are available and die stamp costs are waived. Exceptions: Scales with LED switch, scales including ballpoint pen 27

ENGRAVING A tool cuts the letters into the material. On plastic surfaces the engraving cavity is then lled with a contrasting color. Logos and lettering are also possible for diamond engraving on Swiss Tools. This method is also ideal for decorating blades and wood scales with individual names in our standard font. CLEANING AND CARE MULTI-TOOLS For dirty and sticky blades, we recommend opening and closing the blades several times in warm water until they move freely. Allow to dry completely. Add a drop of oil between the blades and the tool casing or springs as well as other friction surfaces. Mutli-Tools should never be cleaned in a dishwasher.
