HOW TO USE Intended Use: This device is used for sharpening household knives. It is intended exclusively for this purpose and may only be used as such. It may only be used in the manner described in these instructions. The device may not be used for commercial purposes. Any other use of this device is considered to be contrary of the intended use and may result in damage to materials or even personal injury. The Metal Ware Corp. does not accept any liability for damage caused as a result of the use of this device contrary to its intended use. How to Use: 1. Place sharpener on a flat, stable surface. With the suction feet moist, push down to secure it. Plug the cord into a polarized plug only - NEVER use an extension cord. For safety, this sharpener will fit into a polarized plug one way. If the plug will not fit, reverse it. Contact a qualified electrician if it still will not go in completely. This safety feature should not be changed in any way. Turn on the unit by by pressing the On/Off switch. 2. When sharpening a knife for the first time, use both STAGE 1 and STAGE 2. From then on, it will only be necessary to use both stages when the knife becomes dull again. Otherwise, you can simply use STAGE 2 to keep a fine hone on your knife. IF MISSING PARTS, PLEASE CALL 1-800-288-4545. DO NOT RETURN TO STORE. 2

STAGE 1: Sharpening - Course Grind HOW TO USE With the knife parallel to your work surface, slowly (2" per second) pull the knife towards you through both slots in STAGE 1. Repeat three times. In order to sharpen the tip of your knife, carefully lift up the handle as you draw the curved portion of the blade through the blade guides. STAGE 2: Honing - Fine Polish With the knife parallel to your work surface, slowly (2" per second) pull the knife towards you through both slots in STAGE 2. Repeat three times. After the third time, make one more fast pass (one second) through both blade guides. Carefully wipe off the blade with a moist cloth prior to use. If the knife still does not cut to your standards, repeat the entire process. CAUTION Do not run fingers along edge of knife to check sharpness. To avoid injury, handle knives with extreme care. Never insert the tip of the knife into the blade guide first and push through. This could damage the knife sharpener and your knife. The knife sharpener is designed so that very little effort is needed to draw the knife through the blade guides. If downward pressure is applied to the knife as it is being drawn through the blade guides, the sharpening wheels will stall. Please do not return product to the store you purchased it from. For questions or concerns please contact customer service at 800-288-4545 or visit our web site at chardproducts.com. 3

USEFUL INFORMATION If you would like to keep a razor sharp edge on your knife, run it through STAGE 2 prior to every use. You may have to repeat STAGE 1 AND 2 under certain circumstance such as: using a knife made of tempered steel, using a very dull knife, the knife has been sharpened in the past by using another method or it is the first time you have sharpened a specific knife. This will only occur the first time you use this sharpening system. Moving forward, the normal process can be used. DO NOT use this sharpener on electric serrated knives or knives serrated on both sides. We DO NOT recommend using it on non-electrical one sided serrated knifes. However, if you do, only use STAGE 2 and only sharpen the non-grooved side of the knife. CAUTION Never use your fingers to check the sharpness of a knife. Always handle knives with extreme care. The tip of a knife should never be placed in the blade guides first and then pushed through. Doing so could damage the sharpener and/or your knife. Do not press knife blade down as it goes through the blade guides as the sharpener will shut down for safety reasons. PLEASE RETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. 4

CARE AND CLEANING Wipe clean only the exterior of the sharpener with a non abrasive cleaner. Never submerge the knife sharpener in water or any other liquid. Never lubricate the sharpener. Not for use by children. Always keep out of reach of children. DO NOT attempt any maintenance or alteration to this item yourself. This should always be done only by a trained professional. If you do need service, please contact Customer Service at 800-288-4545. The metal filings collect inside two receptacles on the bottom of the knife sharpener.
