Ancient History Teacher Professional Development Tour to Italy January 2019

Academy Travel has operated a number of previous teacher professional development tours to Italy. These groups are from 2014 (above on Mount Vesuvius), 2015 (below in the Capitoline Museum courtyard) and 2017 (bottom). Ancient History Teacher PD Tour to Italy Overview Academy Travel is delighted to present an outstanding professional development opportunity for current History teachers, student teachers and those with a keen interest in Ancient History. This program is designed to cover key learning areas from the HSC and VCE Ancient History syllabuses. Participants have the option to join an 11-day tour to Rome and the Cities of Vesuvius, or the 18-day tour which also includes Sicily. The itinerary begins in Rome, where our experts will guide the group through the sites of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, Campus Martius and Ostia Antica. Participants will also visit key museums, including the Capitoline and Palazzo Massimo to view extensive collections of primary sources from ancient Rome. In the Bay of Naples, the group will be accompanied by renowned Australian archaeologist Dr Estelle Lazer. Dr Lazer will provide background lectures on the key syllabus dot points in the Cities of Vesuvius core study and lead tours of the excavations in the region. For those electing to continue to Sicily, you will view the remnants of Magna Grecia in Siracusa, Agrigento, Palermo and Taormina. This carefully planned program will be escorted by an experienced tour manager and include a series of guided tours, on site visits with experts and workshops, alongside time for sightseeing, shopping and soaking up the local cultures. Tax deductibility In most cases, this tour will be fully tax deductible for full or part time History teachers. Please speak to your tax agent for professional advice. Some teachers may be able to have all or part of the tour fee subsidized by their school s professional development program (letter of support available on request). Professional development Academy Travel is endorsed to provide NESA Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient Teacher level. Completing this study tour program will contribute 36 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 2.1.2, 6.2.2, 6.3.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW. About Academy Travel Academy Travel is Australia s most experienced and respected provider of educational travel.
