Gary and Nancy Jones reported they were traveling southbound on I-75 in the left lane. They stated a dark blue Pontiac Grand Prix was in the right lane next to them. The Grand Prix came over into the left lane and struck Jones' vehicle on the right rear fender. The Grand Prix then lost control and drove off the left side of the road into the median. It then re-entered the roadway and struck Jones' vehicle again from behind. The Grand Prix continued southbound on I-75 without stopping. Nancy Jones provided a possible license plate number of EBT2817 and described the other driver as an older female. That plate did not match the suspect vehicle. However, a check of ETB2817 came back to a dark blue Pontiac Grand Prix registered to Karen Gruben of Genoa, Ohio. On Saturday, August 11th I made contact with Gruben. She stated she was traveling on I-75 southbound at the time and date of the accident and became disoriented by the rain. She said she remembered missing her exit onto I-475 northbound and mistakenly drove to Bowling Green. She later noticed damage to the drivers side mirror and the front of her vehicle, but had no recollection of being involved in a traffic accident. I inspected Gruben's vehicle and found the damage to be consistent with the statements of Gary and Nancy Jones. Gruben was found at fault for the accident and issued a citation for Lane Changes and Turn Signals (4511.39).
