Buying your ticket It s a legal requirement to have a valid ticket or pass before you start your journey and you risk prosecution if you travel without one. You must buy your ticket from the ticket office or ticket vending machine before getting on the train. If the ticket office is closed or you board at an unstaffed station you can buy your ticket from the conductor on the train. If you avoid using the ticket office or vending machine when they re available, the conductor will charge you the full Anytime Single/Return fare. Mobility scooters We cannot accept any type of mobility scooter for travel on our trains, unless it can be folded and carried on board (similar to a piece of luggage), due to their restricted manoeuvrability and stability. Bicycles Most of our trains can take up to two bikes, subject to space being available, particularly during peak times. Folded bikes can be taken on trains as luggage without restrictions. Great Ayton at the bus stops on Great Ayton High Street opposite the Royal Oak pub for Whitby, and outside the pharmacy for Middlesbrough. Grosmont at the level crossing next to the Co-opertive store for Middlesbrough, and next to the station car park for Whitby. Gypsy Lane on the junction of Gypsy Lane and The Avenue next to the Brunton Arms pub for Middlesbrough, and the opposite side for Nunthorpe. Kildale on the main road, at entrance to the station road. Lealholm at the post office on Lealholm Lane same side as the post office for Whitby, the opposite side for Middlesbrough. Marton the bus stops on Ladgate Lane same side of the road as the station for Nunthorpe, and the opposite side for Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough in the layby on Bridge Street at the back of the station. Nunthorpe service bus stops on Guisborough Road, by the entrance to the station car park for Whitby, outside the Nunthorpe Early Years Centre for Middlesbrough. Ruswarp at the bus stop outside the station same side of the road as the station for Middlesbrough, and the opposite side for Whitby. Sleights on the road at entrance to the lane leading to station. Use and enjoy the Esk Valley Railway The Esk Valley Railway is supported by the not-for-profit Esk Valley Railway Development Company (EVRDC). The Residents Railcard entitles you to: Discounted fares between Whitby and Middlesbrough and intermediate stations on Northern Rail services. A Residents Railcard offers 1 /3 off normal adult train fares on the Esk Valley. The Railcard is not valid for season tickets. The Residents Railcard 2015 price is just 10 per year. If you live in the Hambleton, Scarborough or Ryedale Districts of North Yorkshire, or in the Boroughs of Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland or Stockton, you are eligible for a 2015 Railcard. You can buy a railcard from these stations: Whitby, Middlesbrough, Redcar Central, Thornaby, Thirsk, Malton and Scarborough.
