The expedition to Mt. Kazbek (5047 m above the sea level) and Mt. Elbrus (5642 m above the sea level) The dates of the open groups in year 2017: 15.08.2017 26.08.2017 Throughout the season, (from the 15 th of May until the 15 th of September) we organize custom expeditions on the dates of your preference. We offer certified and experienced guides, high-altitude equipment rental, transfers from the airports in Tbilisi and Kutaisi, transport to the foot of Mt. Elbrus (for those who want to ascend the two Caucasian giants), transport by off-road vehicle to the church of the Holy Trinity (where the trail to Mt. Kazbek begins), horse rental to transport luggage to Meteo Station, gas for camping stoves, freeze-dried meals, and everything else that can help guide you as you ascend Mt. Kazbek and Mt. Elbrus safely. In order to determine the date and details of your trip, please contact us by e-mail: info@mountainfreaks.ge or on our Facebook profile. We have prepared the following plan to allow each of you to reach the peaks of Mt. Kazbek and Mt. Elbrus. The plan envisages gradual acclimatization, spreading the mountain action over a couple of days, as well as some spare days, allowing you to deal safely with both mountains (as long as you are in good physical condition and do not have health complications, even without prior experience in the high mountains). The most important detail is that during the whole trip, our team will be with you - the leader of the expedition, as well as certified alpine guides (trained in the field of emergency medical services for the mountains), who will be responsible for your safety. Our team consists of a leader and guides who speak English, Russian and Polish to the extent that communication will be open and trouble-free at every stage of the expedition.

THE PLAN OF THE EXPEDITION: DAY ONE Arrive at the airport in Tbilisi, where you will be picked up by our driver and a guide. Then, go by off-road vehicle to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi), which is where the expedition begins. Upon arrival, you will be accommodated in a guest house, which will serve as our base in Kazbegi (twin rooms with bathrooms). If you are not able to bring your own equipment, you can rent all that is needed from us in order to reach the summit - crampons, ice axes, harnesses, sleeping bags, etc. At our office, you can also buy gas for camping stoves and freeze-dried meals. This day will be devoted to resting and preparing for the start of the mountain action on the following day. In the evening, we will have a Georgian dinner with all expedition participants and the whole Mountain Freaks team. DAY TWO - Have breakfast at 9:00 in the morning. Then, we will go to the store, where you can buy bread, water, and other products needed for the trip. This will be the last chance for replenishment. You can leave a deposit for the duration of the expedition at our guesthouse, including everything that you will not need in the mountains. We will then start our journey to the top of Mt. Kazbek. The trail to Mt. Kazbek starts on the hill with the church of the Holy Trinity (2170m above sea level). We will drive there by off-road vehicle. There, our main luggage will be packed on horses and transported straight to Meteo Station, and we will move onwards with only small backpacks. The estimated trekking time for this day is 4 hours. After this time, we will pitch the first camp (tents), where we will stay for the night (3200m above sea level). Please note that during the expedition, we will prepare all meals on our own (camping stoves and gas will be needed). DAY THREE - We will continue our journey towards the peak. On this day, we will pass through the first glacier. The estimated trekking time for this day is 3 hours. After this time, we will arrive to Meteo Station (3600m above sea level). At Meteo Station, we will pitch a camp (tents), where we will spend the next day, prior to going to the summit.

DAY FOUR - Acclimatization day. As part of the acclimatization, we will go for a trek, during which we will reach the height of 4000m above sea level. The estimated trekking time for this day is 3 hours. After we return, we will undergo training regarding walking on the rope, belaying, using the ice axe, and being safe in the high mountains. Then, we will rest at the base by Meteo Station and prepare to reach the summit. DAY FIVE - On this day, we plan to stand on top of Mt. Kazbek (5047m above sea level). We will begin our ascent to the summit at 1:00 in the morning. All action for this day will take about 10-13 hours. After returning from the summit, we will rest and sleep at our base by Meteo Station. DAY SIX - In the morning, we will return to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). The descent will take about 5-6 hours. From the church of the Holy Trinity, we will be picked up by off-road vehicle. Our luggage will be taken back to the village on horseback, and we will keep only our small backpacks for the trek. In Kazbegi, we will stop at our guest house (twin rooms with bathrooms), where dinner will be waiting for us. We devote a whole day to rest after the mountain action. In the evening, we will take part in a farewell supra, during which we will make our own khinkali, learn to play the panduri, listen to Georgian songs, and discover the secrets of Georgian dance. DAY SEVEN (spare day in the case of bad weather conditions in the mountains) DAY EIGHT - We will have breakfast at around 5:00 in the morning, and then we will head to Azau village in Russia, where the trail to Mt. Elbrus begins. The journey takes about 8-9 hours (depending on how fast we are able to cross the border, as well as on road conditions). We will arrive to Azau in the afternoon. Upon arrival, you will be accommodated in a guest house, which will serves as our base in Tereskol (Azau) (twin rooms with bathrooms). Upon arrival, we will have dinner, followed by free time for resting and preparing for the following day s mountain action on Mt. Elbrus.

DAY NINE We will start the mountain action on Mt. Elbrus after breakfast. We will take a cable car and chair lift to the area of Priut (approx. 4200m above sea level). We will travel with luggage from the chair lift to our place of accommodation (about 1 hour of trekking) and overnight in Priut or the surrounding area (indoors, not in tents). During the expedition, we will prepare all meals on our own (camping stoves and gas will be needed). DAY TEN On this day, we plan to stand on top of Mt. Elbrus (5642m above sea level). We will start our ascent to the summit at 1:00 in the morning, and all action will take about 14-15 hours. After returning from the summit, we will immediately descend by chairlift and cable car to Tereskol (Azau), where we will relax and spend the night in the guest house, which serves as our base in Tereskol (Azau) (twin rooms with bathrooms). We will also have dinner together there. DAY ELEVEN (spare day in case of bad weather conditions in the mountains) DAY TWELVE After breakfast, we will begin our return to Tbilisi, Georgia. We will travel approximately 11-12 hours (depending on how fast we are able to cross the border, as well as on road conditions). We should arrive to Tbilisi in the evening.
