Welcome to Cold Mountain Lodge Welcome to 861 Little East Fork, Canton, North Carolina, 28716. We are happy you have chosen our property for your visit. Here is some information about the house that will help you enjoy your stay. Note: you can see a history of the construction of Cold Mountain Lodge and photos of its construction at http://www.coldmountainlodge.com... ACCESS TO THE HOUSE AND PROPERTY To reach the cabin from Canton, North Carolina you should drive south from Interstate 40 on NC-110 approximately 5.5 miles to the intersection of NC-276 and NC-110. Continue driving straight though the intersection. At that point NC-110 will change names to NC-215. Continue driving south on this small winding road. (You can also reach this intersection by taking highway 215 from Canton but watch out for the multiple turns, all marked, that lead to this intersection.) Continue on NC-215 for about 5.0 miles until you reach Little East Fork Road where you should turn left. (This turn is immediately after a bridge on NC-215 and is identified by a green highway sign that says, Little East Fork Road". and another sign that says: "Camp Daniel Boone on the left side of the road.) Drive along this paved, winding road, for 8/10s of a mile to the base of the driveway on the left after a sharp bend in the road. The driveway is marked with the street address ("861") on an address marker that points up the driveway. Straight up the paved driveway is the lodge. Welcome! Parking is at the base of the stairwell in the blacktop area. (You can also park at the base of the driveway near the main road.) Use your parking brake! Helpful hint: when you leave the Lodge to go into town by car, have someone watch as you make a careful three point turn at the top of the driveway so you don't have to back down the driveway. Or use your car equipped back up camera to carefully back down the driveway. The home itself can be accessed by keyed entry along the left side of the house from the parking area (look for the large propane tank) through the kitchen door. To the right of the kitchen door is a lock box with a key inside. Before you arrive you will receive a unique four digit code via email that will allow access to the key in the lock box. Once your gain entry you can unlock the front door bolt from the inside. Advisory: If you use a GPS connected to a cell phone to find your way to the lodge, be advised that cell service ends about three miles from the cabin and you may not have guidance! Print out the map and take it with you to find the Lodge!

DECK OVERLOOKING THE WATERFALL AND PANTHER BRANCH In the front of the house there is a large deck with a wonderful view of Panther Branch creek and the waterfall under the nearby bridge. Outdoor seating is available on the deck. (Please put seat cushions back inside at night or when it is raining.) Watch the stars at night. You can see the Milky Way and satellites passing on a clear evening! KITCHEN AT THE CABIN The lodge is a rustic mountain lodge with some conveniences. The kitchen has a gas range, a refrigerator, a coffee maker, a toaster, a microwave, and plenty of utensils for your use. Utensils are in two areas: to the right of the sink and to the right of the range. Plates and glasses are in the tall wooden cabinet to the right of the front entrance to the lodge. GAS SPACE HEATER IN THE KITCHEN Note: our local manager Becky (828-627-6626) will turn on the pilot light before you arrive but if you need to turn on the gas space heater, here are the instructions: To turn on the gas space heater in the kitchen you should adjust the knob on the left to the pilot position. Then you push down on the button in the middle of the same knob while clicking the starter button on the right. Detailed instructions for operation of the space heater are taped to the refrigerator to the right of the space heater. Please turn the gas line off at the end of your visit to the Lodge. To do this, turn the red knob to the off position. It s below the space heater LIGHT SWITCHES AND FAN CONTROLS There are many light switches at the lodge, some of which may not be in places you'd guess. Use this guide to help you find the switch you need. All of the switches are marked with a label that describes what the switch controls. Below is a handy list of some of the light and fans at the lodge and the location of the switch that controls them: Light Location Deck flood lights near parking area Kitchen Fan Living Room Flood lights Kitchen Flood lights Living Room Chandelier Master bedroom overhead light Switch Location immediately to right of front door hinge Right side of hallway Round switches in hallway Round switches in hallway Left of Front Door near metal beam Next to dresser

Waterfall side outdoor flood Basement light To the right of front door near the beam Overhead pull cord near light TELEPHONE, INTERNET AND LIBRARY There is a land line telephone in the cabin for local calls and toll free calls that you can use. You can also dial 911 in an emergency. There is also a telephone calling card for limited long distance calling. (Unfortunately cellular service and cable service is not available at this time on Cold Mountain.) We have Hughes Satellite internet which you can use with the computer at the house or with your portable device. (The Wireless network name (SSID) is: fisher and the Wireless Password is: 8139492749) We have a very limited data plan so please don t play online games or download movies. However, the service is perfect for checking email, surfing the web and printing boarding passes if you arrived by plane in Asheville. The library has over a hundred books along with maps and brochures on a bookshelf in the hallway. You are welcome to read them during your stay. BEDROOMS AND BATHROOMS There are two bedrooms and two bathrooms in the house. There is a large bed and a small bed in the master bedroom. There are electric heaters in each bedroom. PLEASE turn off the heater on when you leave the bedroom for safety reasons. The bathrooms for each the bedrooms are simple but functional and include a shower in one bathroom and a tub in the other. Towels are available in the cabinets. PLEASE conserve water when bathing. The well at the cabin has a very limited capacity and we request that guests limit showers to five minutes to prevent well from running dry. LIVING ROOM There is also a large living room with a wood stove. The wood stove should be used with caution and children and pets should not be allowed near the stove during its operation because it is very hot. (When you leave the Lodge, please turn the knobs on the front of the stove all the way to the right to extinguish the fire.) If you don t wish to use the wood stove there is a gas space heater in the kitchen. EXPLORING THE WATERFALL, HIKING, AND FISHING If you walk up from the cabin on the other side of the waterfall you will find the hidden gem of the Cold Mountain Lodge: a small path a few steps from the bridge over the waterfall that leads

to the Panther Branch creek. This is a wonderful place to sit on rocks surrounded by water flowing down to the waterfall. This secret place is in the midst of the forest with a view of the waterfall. The water is shallow here and the bottom is sandy. It's perfect for wading and enjoying the mountain just steps from your cabin. This is highly recommended. Cold Mountain also offers wonderful hiking opportunities. The gravel road behind the house is approximately two miles long and leads up to the 4,000 ft level of Cold Mountain. It takes about an hour to hike and is a great way to get to know the mountain on the first day of your visit. For serious hikers, the Art Loeb trail begins two miles up Little East Fork Road at Camp Daniel Boone. This trail leads up to the Blue Ridge Parkway. Turn left at the base of the driveway to reach Camp Daniel Boone. You can bike there or use a car to reach the Daniel Boone Camp. Also, on Cold Mountain behind the Lodge are numerous logging roads used in the 1900 s that are fun to hike. Wear long sleeve shirts and pants for the brush however. There are two bodies of water near the house: Panther Branch- which is immediately next to the cabin- features a beautiful waterfall visible from the deck. Panther Branch leads down to a river on our property that is just across the paved road in front of the lodge called the Little East Fork River. Little East Fork River features incredible views of rocks, trees and mountainside and its fun to walk along the river in the wooded area below the lodge. Lodge property extends to the river and across it. Our guests enjoy fishing for mountain trout. Throw a line out and try your luck. Advisory: In the summer you may see green plants that look like vines with three leaves near the beams that support the deck. That s poison ivy. If you touch the poison ivy you can wash it off but do so right away. There is a tube of special cream on the refrigerator that is used for washing away poison ivy. You can also use regular soap if you do so within the first few minutes of exposure. Be watchful and stay away from under the deck and you should be fine. LITTLE EAST FORK RIVER We own the property down to and across the Little East Fork River and you are absolutely allowed and invited to walk across the paved road and enjoy the wooded area along the Little East Fork River for picnics or any other outdoor recreation. There are paths down to the river from the road and some along the river itself. The river has cold water that creates a cool breeze even on the hottest summer day. It's heaven on earth. Our favorite place on the property is where Panther Branch meets the Little East Fork: you ll feel like you re in a hobbit movie!

BICYCLING AT THE LODGE There are three bicycles for guest use in the basement. You can access the basement using the house key. Please walk the bikes down the driveway and use a helmet when riding. If you turn left from the base of the driveway and bike upriver you will see excellent views of the mountains, farms and the river. It is dangerous to bicycle on any gravel road. Please do not bicycle on the gravel roads that lead up Cold Mountain! DRIVING AND WALKING UP COLD MOUNTAIN Automobiles can safely drive up and down the driveway in front of 861 Little East Fork but you may need a 4 wheel drive vehicle in order to drive all the way up the gravel road behind the lodge known as Panther Branch. The people who live up Panther Branch are very friendly and would be glad to see you. Many people enjoy hiking up Cold Mountain. The gravel road goes about two miles up Cold Mountain. GARBAGE PICKUP AND DISHES There is a garbage can in the basement and a recycling bin for your use. Please place all your refuse in these containers for our staff to take to the recycling center after your visit. You are responsible for washing all dishes, utensils and cookware. We will wash linens and towels. KEY RETURN When you leave, we ask that you leave all lodge property inside the lodge for the next group of guests to use. Please return the key to the lock box when you have completed your stay and please consider coming back for another visit to Cold Mountain. QUESTIONS? GIVE US A CALL If you have any questions please call the owner, Ralph Fisher at (813) 949-2749 or (813) 528-0520. If you need help during your stay you can contact our manager, Becky at (828) 627-6626. Also, in an emergency you can call Becky. ONLY in an emergency you can call also call Mr. Ben Fishback at (828) 646-3882. He lives on Cold Mountain. As A Guest, You ll Be Able to Take Full Advantage of the Area Our favorite hiking spots: Things To Do On/Around Cold Mountain Lodge... Just below the lodge near the deck is a waterfall (Panther Branch) that is fun to visit on your first day on Cold Mountain. As described above, there is a wonderful spot above the waterfall

accessible by a small path near the bridge with a view of the waterfall that is both quiet and rewarding. Cold Mountain is 6000' high. Since the lodge is at the 3000' elevation of Cold Mountain, you can climb up the mountain by walking up the gravel road directly behind lodge. The gravel road is approximately 2 miles long and takes you up to over 4000'. Unfortunately the rest of the route up Cold Mountain is not marked but you'll have plenty of great views on your way up to the end of the road. Little East Fork River is just below the lodge across the paved road. To access the river, cross the road below the lodge and enjoy the river where there are paths and places to sit on the giant boulders that line the river. Enjoy yourself. Our property is over 6 acres and runs up and down and across the river! Bicycling up Little East Fork road: We have bikes in the basement for your use. Use a helmet. Turn left at the base of the driveway and go upriver for beautiful mountain and river views. The road leads to a Boy Scout camp on the other side of summer cottages a few miles from the lodge. If you want to drive, there are many options for scenic places to visit: Devil s Courthouse - Located at milepost 422.4 of the Blue Ridge Parkway. (To reach the Parkway, turn right out of the lodge.
