Pop Pay As You Go Pay As You Go Pop Pay As You Go (PAYG) is the smart way to pay for public transport in North East England. Simply top up your Pop PAYG card and pay for your journeys as you make them. Pay As You Go on Metro You can travel as many times as you like in one day. You re charged each time you travel until you reach the daily price cap for the number of zones you ve travelled in. Pop PAYG is cheaper than adult Single and Day Tickets. The price depends on the number of zones you travel in see the map on page 9. Get your FREE Pop PAYG card online at nexus.org.uk/pop or at Nexus TravelShops. Cards must be purchased with a 10 balance. Once you ve got your Pop PAYG card, register it online at popcard.org.uk and open a Pop Shop account. How to top up At the Pop Shop popcard.org.uk At any Metro station ticket machine Single One zone 1.50 2.60 Single PAYG fares are 30p cheaper than adult Single Tickets. Daily Cap fares are 40p cheaper than adult Day Tickets. Pay As You Go on Bus and Ferry You can also use Pop PAYG to pay for travel on buses and the Shields Ferry, but it works differently on them. Adult tickets for use on the day of purchase Day Ticket This ticket can be used at any time of the day and gives you unlimited travel depending on the zone(s) you choose. An all zones Day Ticket is also valid on the Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. The price depends on the number of zones you travel in see the map on page 9. You can buy this ticket at any Metro station ticket machine. Single Ticket You can use this ticket for journeys on Metro. It s valid for one continuous journey and for 90 minutes from buying your ticket. An all zones single is also valid on the Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. The price depends on the number of zones you travel in see the map on page 9. Commuters and frequent users Season Ticket A Season Ticket can be used all day in your chosen zones and is great value if you use Metro regularly. An all zones Season Ticket is also valid on the Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. A Season Ticket that includes Zone A can be used on Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone.* The price depends on the number of zones you travel in see the map on page 9. Commuters and frequent users Metro zone map Add On tickets If you need to travel in a zone that s not covered by your Season Ticket, you can buy a one day Add On ticket. Add On tickets are valid on the day of purchase and are the same price as the equivalent Day Ticket. The price depends on the number of zones you travel in see the map on page 9. You can buy this ticket at any Metro station ticket machine. Touch your card on the orange reader and choose Add Zone 1 day. You will be shown Add On tickets for the zone(s) not covered by your ticket. Touch your Pop card onto the orange reader and your Add On ticket will be loaded onto it. Commuters and frequent users Corporate Season Ticket The Corporate Season Ticket is available to local employers who can get discounts on behalf of their staff (no minimum purchase). The Corporate Season Ticket is an annual all zones ticket and is also valid on the Shields Ferry, Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone* and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. Metro Business Passes are also valid on the Shields Ferry, Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone* and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. Because the Metro Business Pass is linked to a company rather than an individual, it s transferable amongst all your employees. Students and young people Pop blue If you re aged 18 or under, Pop blue is the brand new way to pay for your Metro travel. Just load a balance onto your Pop blue card and use it to pay for journeys as you make them. It s a great way to save time and money. You can also use your Pop blue balance on the bus and the Shields Ferry but it works differently, so please visit nexus.org.uk/pop for details. Single Get your Pop blue card online at nexus.org.uk/pop or from any Nexus TravelShop. The card itself is free, but you need to buy it with a 10 balance. Once that s done you can top up your Pop blue card: At the Pop Shop popcard.org.uk. Then load it onto your Pop blue card at a Metro station validator, gate or ticket machine. Students and young people 18 and Under Season Ticket An 18 and Under Season Ticket is valid on the Metro, Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland, as well as Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone.* This ticket gives you at least 60% discount off the price of a standard adult ticket. To be eligible, you must be aged 18 or under. You can get a ticket for either one or four weeks. One week First, you ll need to apply for your FREE Pop card at popcard.org.uk as this is what your ticket will be loaded on to. You ll need to upload a photo online. You don t need proof of age to get a Pop card. Your Pop card will take about five working days to arrive by post. When you receive it, take it to a Nexus TravelShop along with proof that you are aged 18 or under, and staff will activate your discount. Once that s done you can buy or renew your 18 and Under Season Ticket: At the Pop Shop popcard.org.uk At any Metro station ticket machine Four weeks All zones 7.70 29.00 *Central Zone covers Q1 and Q2 between Central Station and Gateshead Interchange, and Q3 between Haymarket Bus Station and St Peter s Basin. Students and young people Student Season Ticket With a Student Season Ticket you could be travelling on Metro for less than 1 a day. It s available to all full-time students with valid student ID. *Valid on the Shields Ferry and local rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland, as well as Quaylink buses in the Quaylink Central Zone.** Student zone map available on page 14. Four week Inner Newcastle 26.10 290.00 First, you ll need to apply for your FREE Pop card at popcard.org.uk as this is what your Student Ticket will be loaded on to. You ll need to upload a photo online. You don t need proof that you re a student to get a Pop card. Your Pop card will take about five working days to arrive by post. When you receive it, take it to a Nexus TravelShop, along with your student ID showing academic dates, and staff will activate your student discount. Further information and prices are available from Nexus TravelShops or at networkonetickets.co.uk Transfares If your one day journey includes travelling on more than one type of transport, for example, Metro and bus, you can buy a Transfare ticket. Transfares allow you to buy one ticket for your entire journey on public transport. You must start the second part of your journey within 90 minutes of buying your ticket. Transfare maps are available at every station and at nexus.org.uk/metro One zone 2.80 You can buy this ticket at any Metro station ticket machine. Network One Day Rover This all day ticket is valid for unlimited travel on all forms of public transport in Tyne and Wear, including Metro, bus, local rail services between Sunderland and Blaydon, and the Shields Ferry. Day Rover tickets are priced at 7.20 (child 3.60) and are ideal for days out using different forms of transport all day long. Two zones 3.70 All zones 4.40 You can buy this ticket at any Metro station ticket machine. 14 15

Children Children under five All children under five must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged under five travel free on all public transport in Tyne and Wear. Child fares Children who live in Tyne and Wear, and are aged between 5-15 on 31 August before the start of the current academic year, are entitled to an Under 16 Pop card. This lets them travel in Tyne and Wear at concessionary child fares. U16 CAT - Child Day Ticket with Pop card 1.10 U16 single with Pop card Child Single Child Transfare Child Day Ticket 0.60 0.80 1.00 1.30 Under 16 Pop card application forms are available online at nexus.org.uk or from Nexus TravelShops. Children aged 5-15 who don t have an Under 16 Pop card should buy a Child Single Ticket for 80p or a Child Day Ticket, which gives all day unlimited Metro travel for 1.30. With all tickets, you may be asked for proof of age. Class and Youth Group Metro Pass Valid for travel on the whole Metro system and Shields Ferry for groups of up to 40 (including sixth formers, under 16s and community youth groups aged 18 and under) and up to ten accompanying adults after 9.00am. We recommend, for supervision purposes, a ratio of one adult for every four children travelling in a group. There are three options: One day pass Term pass Spring 1 January to 15 April 2018 Summer 16 April to 31 August 2018 Autumn 1 September to 31 December 2018 Annual pass Valid for 365 days from date of purchase (A group of up to 40 students and 10 accompanying adults, see restrictions above.) Concessionary Travel Concessionary Travel on Metro If you have a Concessionary Travel Pass (CT Pass), you can buy a Metro Gold Card which gives you a year s travel on Metro, the Shields Ferry and on Northern Rail services between Newcastle and Sunderland. It s just 12 a year if you live in Tyne and Wear and 24 if you don t. A Metro Gold Card is valid for travel after 9.30am Monday to Friday and all day on weekends, on public holidays, and throughout July and August. Your Metro Gold Card will be loaded onto your Concessionary Travel Pass. You can buy or renew your Metro Gold Card: At any Metro station ticket machine. Watch the how-to guide at nexus.org.uk/pophelp Useful information Lost property Please phone 0191 203 3199 Refunds for four week and annual Season Tickets Refunds are available on all four week and annual Season Tickets for unused future travel. Refunds will be given on the number of full travel days that are unused from the date the ticket is received by Nexus. An administration fee of 2.50 for a four week Ticket and 10 for an annual Season Ticket is payable in all cases. Replacement tickets are nonrefundable. What if I lose my Pop card? If you lose your Pop card go to nexus.org.uk/pop to find out how to replace it. Information about replacing your Season Ticket is there too. Safety on Metro All Metro stations are monitored 24 hours a day by digital CCTV cameras. Over 550 cameras cover the entire Metro network, including platforms, station approaches, subways and car parks. If you have any concerns, use the help point or phone/text 0191 203 3666. 18 19
