Introduction This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs, but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors. Access Statement for RSPB South Stack Cliffs RSPB South Stack is situated high on the cliff tops around South Stack and Holyhead Mountain offering lovely views and great walks and amazing wildlife encounters for different levels and abilities. The Visitor Centre, Shop, Cafe and toilets are all on one flat level. The Cafe has further seating in a lower seating area accessible by three steps 13cm in height or a removable ramp with a 25 gradient The nearby lighthouse is managed by the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Further details about RSPB South Stack available on our website http://www.rspb.org.uk/southstack Pre-Arrival By car, the reserve is a short drive from Junction 1 of the A55. At the end of the A55, take the third exit at the roundabout drive straight ahead and follow the brown tourist information signs for RSPB South Stack Nature Reserve. The Holyhead Railway Station is 3 miles away. There is no public transport from the reserve; taxi's are readily available at Holyhead Railway Station. Roads to the reserve are narrow and uneven in places with some steep inclines. The reserve is open all day all year round. The Visitor Centre, Shop and Cafe are open 10am - 5pm daily (except Christmas Day) Page 1 of 7 Version August 2013

Ellin's Tower seabird centre is open 10am - 5pm April to September. The centre has steep steps to the viewing area. A TV monitor at ground level provides TV footage of the seabird colony. Clear print and large print reserve guides and café menu s are available on request Registered assistance dogs welcome Car Parking Facilities and Arrival Both RSPB car parks are free of charge and surfaced with crushed gravel. Ellin s Tower car park has 3 Blue Badge spaces. This car park is at the beginning of a level accessible gravel path 450m in length leading to Ellins Tower and the main viewpoint overlooking the cliffs and the lighthouse. The path has 2 benches located at 150m intervals to rest and take in the views of the Irish Sea. The Visitor Centre car park has 3 Blue Badge spaces immediately next to o the entrance of the Visitor Centre, Shop and Cafe. The main entrance to the Visitor Centre has a threshold height of 1cm. The 960mm wide door is a little heavy in strong winds but staff are available to provide assistance. Visitor Centre Staff are always on duty willing to offer assistance on request The main entrance, shop, toilets and approximately 60% of the cafe seating area are all on the same level The lower seating area is accessible using a removable ramp, should you wish to sit in this area, please ask a member of staff who will assist you. The centre is well lit with LED and halogen spotlights in the ceiling The floor surface is non slip lino Page 2 of 7 Version August 2013

Nature Trails Three different trails that can be followed- The Heathland trail is a 0.6 mile trail that starts at the Ellins Tower car park, follows the level path 450m in length to the viewpoint outside Ellin s Tower. You can take a breather on one of the benches provided at 150m intervals and admire the panoramic views of the Irish Sea and look for Stonechats, Linnets and hear the soaring song of the skylark. The 0.3 mile Ellin s Tower trail starts at the Visitor Centr. From there, head to the corner of the car park by the blue telescope and descend the 25 steps to Ellin s Tower. Please note these steps are uneven and steep in a few places. Once at the Tower, you can enjoy take in the beautiful scenery from the viewpoint and go into Ellins Tower to the second floor via steps with a hand rail on both sides and a half landing for resting half way. The Coastal trail is a little more challenging at 1.5 miles and is more suited to those with a head for heights. It follows the same route as the Ellin s Tower trail initially but then heads along the winding cliff path from the tower where swathes of wildflowers carpet the cliff top then comes out through the Ellin s Tower Car Park and up the road to the Visitor Centre. Please note this trail is uneven, steep and rocky with exposed drops to the sea 300m below. Viewing Facilities Page 3 of 7 Version August 2013

Ellin s Tower Seabird Centre is the only built viewing facility beyond the Visitor Centre. It has a level entry with a wide doorway with space for a single wheelchair and an interactive screen showing live and recorded footage. From here a steep staircase leads to the viewing area. The doorway is secured open during opening hours. Upstairs two TV screens showing live camera images throughout the opening season and showing recorded footage when the seabirds have left the nesting ledges. Binoculars and telescopes are available to view wildlife and the staff and volunteers are on hand to tell people about the reserve and help you enjoy your visit. There are no toilets in Ellins Tower Public Toilets Public toilets are also available 200m down the road from the Visitor Centre. The Visitor Centre has visitor toilets and a single unisex accessible toilet with measurements below: Catering A light, easy open door 830mm wide. Toilet height is 50mm. Vertical rails either side of toilet. Horizontal rail on the side wall adjacent to the toilet. Well lit with automatic fluorescent tube overhead lighting. Non-slip tile flooring. Push taps on the sink. There is a baby changing table that is accessible from a seated position and folds down for use. Shop The cafe counter is on the same level as the visitor centre. Tray points are on a low rail and trays can be pushed along a level tray rack along the counter. Staff will serve drinks and snacks on trays, hot food will be brought to tables. If you are unable to carry a tray, staff and volunteers will assist you. Tables are well spaced with a clear height of 750mm from table top to the floor, with upright chairs without arms. Staff will assist in moving chairs to make space for wheelchair users. Lighting is a mixture of natural light with overhead spotlights used The flooring is non slip lino Where possible, all food products are locally sourced and fair trade. Smaller portions and vegetarian options are available and we do our best to cater for any dietary requirements; please contact us in advance to check any specific requests you may have. Menus are available on every table and a large print menu is available on the Cafe Counter. Crockery is colour contrasted with the table, Large handled and children's cutlery are available. The shop is on the same level in the Visitor Centre with no doors to enter apart from the one at the main entrance. A large range of products from gifts, souvenirs and books to bird care products, wildlife models and optics are an offer. The floor is lino There is room within the shop for a wheelchair to manoeuvre The area is evenly well lit with natural daylight and overhead halogen spot lights There is a promotional video usually playing with subtitles at times, with no sound. There are some tall book/gift racks but low display units accessible from a seated position and staff and volunteers will assist with higher items A magnifying glass, pen and pad of paper are available at the counter. Picnic Area There is a picnic area immediately next to the Visitor Centre on the left hand side with 7 picnic tables, 3 of which are accessible to wheelchair users There is also one picnic bench located on the landing area to the right of the Visitor Centre on a flat level with concrete slabs accessible and with a space for a wheelchair user. Additional Information All of the staff receive regular training A dog water bowl is available at the Visitor Centre and Ellins Tower entrance Directional signage is used throughout the reserve.
