Figure - Wing Label Summary Canpy and Fabric Visual - There were many small and minr nicks in the wing (all patched with rip-stp tape) and pictures detail this belw. Prsity - The prsity was in near new cnditin fr the entire wing Fabric Strength - This is a pass r fail test, the wing passed. Lines Visual and Physical - lines had sheathing cuts and were replaced. Length Check - Shrinkage thrughut all lines is cmmn, but the trim f the wing was nt that much difference. Breaking Check - lines were brken and all brke abve the listed line strength value. Risers - N damage fund
Canpy and Fabric Visual - Fund cells with small hles (befre and after pictures belw). N missing stitches r damaged tabs were fund. Canpy Damage Cell st tp th tp th tp Left Patched inside Patched utside Picture befre repair. Figure,,, Picture after repair.
Prsity - The canpy was measured fr prsity values in different areas f the tp and bttm surface. The measurements were made apprximately - cm inbard frm the leading edge in the apprximate psitins indicated in the diagram belw using a prsity meter. Clth Strength - This is a test fr measurement f the tearing resistance f the clth by puncturing the clth in the middle f a panel f the tp surface and increase the lad until g is achieved. If the material tears mre than mm befre this value is reached then the clth is deemed t weak and the glider is un-airwrthy. The same test is repeated n a panel f the undersurface. In the Mj L the clth did't tear in the surfaces tested. Bth needle hles were patched n the inside. Line Length - The verall length (riser lines + mid lines + upper lines) were checked under exactly DaN f tensin. The difference between the measured length and the riginal length shuld nt exceed +/- mm. The length f the line cnnectin tabs is als included in the measurement. Useful infrmatin Paraglider Prsity Check Paraglider prsity is the measurement f the amunt f time it takes fr a certain vlume f air t pass thrugh the paraglider canpy fabric. T test the prsity f a glider, we use the JDC MK Prsimeter, which is the mst used prsity meter in the paragliding industry. The MK measures the time necessary fr. liters f air under hpa pressure t g thrugh. cm f clth. S hw des prsity affect yur glider? New gliders are tested by varius agencies/rganizatins t determine their perfrmance and safety (See Paragliding Rating System). When these agencies test gliders, the gliders are new frm the factry and have very little prsity. Because the structure f paragliders is frmed by pressurizatin, the prsity f a glider als relates t its pressurizatin. The behavir f a glider will change as the prsity increases. This change in behavir might be, amng ther things, glide rati, speed, resistance t cllapses, recvery frm cllapses, handling in turns, and surging. In additin t the perfrmance being affected, the durability is affected as well. If a glider is mre prus, it means the material has degraded and it is weaker than it was when yu first bught it. If the material is weaker, it can tear easier. These tears might ccur when yu are launching r landing near rcks r sticks. Hwever, if the material f yur glider is significantly weaker, it may even tear during an event while flying, such as a large frntal cllapse. Tearing f a glider frm a cllapse is very unlikely, but it has happened befre. Hw d yu take care f yur glider t slw dwn the again prcess? The mst ppular surce f the aging f a glider is UV expsure. Yu shuld always keep yur glider ut f UV when pssible. If yu are n launch r in the LZ and yur glider is unpacked, cver it up with smething t prevent UV expsure. If yu fly in places where UV is strng, such as Australia, r twards the equatr, yur glider will age faster than it wuld in places where there is less sunshine, r less UV. Is water bad fr my glider? Water is bad fr yur glider if it is stred in a damp state. The cntinued expsure t misture will weaken the canpy, and the lines. If yu get yur glider wet, its imprtant t let it dry ut as quickly as pssible. N need t frantically dry it ut, but dn't let yur glider sit vernight, packed up withut letting it dry ut first. Hwever, we recmmend letting the glider air ut at rm temperature, ut if direct sunlight. Expsing a wet glider t direct sunlight can affect the materials (such as lines and stitching). Lines can shrink and weaken when wet and expsed t direct sunlight. If yur glider has smehw ended up in saltwater, we recmmend hsing it ff with sme fresh water t get the salt particles ff the glider and let it dry in the shade, r inside. What abut abrasin? Abrasive materials, such as sand and dirt can degrade the prtective cating n the canpy. A cmmn prtective cating is a layer f silicne n the inside f the canpy material. S, if yu fly in places where yu're ending up with sand in yur glider, yu shuld d yur best t remve these materials frm yur canpy s they dn't cntinue t wear n yur canpy. We've seen sme grasshppers in places that actually take bites ut f the canpy material t get themselves ut. Where shuld I avid string my glider? T increase the lifespan f yur glider, stre it in a dry cl place. Keeping a glider in the trunk f yur car in the heat can weaken the prtective cating, r affect the lines.
