Friendship Connections The Friendship Force of Oregon s Mid-Willamette Valley August 2015 AUGUST GATHERING BY JUANITA WEIGEL Because of warm weather concerns we are having our regular August 9 picnic meeting at Lloyd and Juanita Weigel's home at 3450 Emerald DR NW in Salem at 2:00 P.M. It will be a potluck so plan on sharing your favorite potluck dish with the group. Everything will be furnished except for the food. Bring your ideas about where you would like to travel in 2017 and why that country is important to you. We will have time for you to present your country. Let's get excited about a new country or visiting a place to which we have not gone for a while. Afterwards we will be voting for our top three choices to be submitted to Friendship Force International s matching process. At this meeting we will be voting in our new officers for 2016. You will be able to add names at this meeting before the voting begins. We are always looking for new faces and new ideas. Sometimes us old timers get stuck doing things the same way all the time so it is good to have new ideas presented and have change. Please note that there is no nominee for President. Important information about the Kaohsiung Stopover Exchange is on Page 6. Similar information about the Haliburton Highlands exchange is on Page 3. EXCHANGE NEWS: BY PATRICIA BYERS, EXCHANGE COORDINATOR Oregon's Mid-Willamette Valley Friendship Force has two of our four 2015 exchanges behind us now! Our latest exchange, Cedar Rapids, Iowa, had a lively and very friendly crowd of ambassadors. If you didn't participate in any way with that exchange, you missed a good time. Now is the time to prepare and participate in our last two exchanges of 2015, Kaohsiung, Taiwan in August, and Haliburton Highlands, Canada in September. Contact Ted Powell (Taiwan) and Kathy Butler or John and Gail Wolcott (Canada) if you have ideas and time to help. I know our club is brimming with volunteers with good ideas. What?? You are too busy in August and September!! Well, let me suggest helping with our exchanges for 2016. The time to plan is now! We will have three exchanges in 2016, and they will all need new, fresh ideas and volunteers to work with the Exchange Directors. The exchanges for 2016 are inbound, Queanbeyan-Canberra, Australia in April/May, inbound, Oklahoma in July, and outbound to Brasov, Romania in September. Each exchange gives you a chance to meet and make new friends from around the world. That is why you joined Friendship Force! Patricia Byers, Exchange Coordinator for FFOMWV 3 P age
