Which? names London Southend Airport the best in Britain London Southend Airport has beaten all other UK airports to be named best in Britain in the latest Which? airport passenger survey. The terminal topped the poll with a customer score of 84% and a maximum five star rating in five of the ten categories assessed. This left other London airports such as City (78%), Heathrow (Terminal 5, 66%), Gatwick (North, 56%) Stansted (50%) and Luton (43%) further down the table. In June 2013, 11,537 Which? members were asked to complete an online survey about their experiences of flying from a UK airport in the past year. The customer scores are based on a combination of overall satisfaction and how likely people are to recommend the airport to a friend. Magazine September 2013 London Southend Airport retains top safety award London Southend Airport has successfully retained Safer Parking Awards for the Long Stay 1, 2 & 3, Short Stay and Holiday Inn car parks, proving the airport is the safest and best place to leave your car when you fly. New route to Tenerife from London Southend Airport Tickets are now on sale for the newest route from London Southend Airport the hugely popular Canary Island of Tenerife. As the nights draw in and temperatures start to plummet in the UK, Tenerife s stunning beaches and guaranteed winter sunshine are now within a 4-hour flight direct from London Southend Airport for as little as 33.49 one way, including taxes. Famed for constant sunny days, minimal rainfall, volcanic origins and average year-round temperature of 22 degrees, the Canary Islands bask in 4,800 daylight hours each year and have a uniquely constant climate - making it the ideal destination for sun worshippers and water sports fans. Flights begin on 13 th December 2013 and will be twice weekly on Tuesday and Friday. London Southend Airport terminal extension coming soon Work on the major extension to the passenger terminal is on schedule and due to open in early 2014. Stage 1 became operational a year ago and is less than 100 paces from the new railway station. Passengers flying out from the airport wait for a maximum of 4-minutes for security, whilst those arriving with just hand luggage can expect to travel from plane to train within 15 minutes of leaving the aircraft. This Stage 2 extension is to ensure these high standards of service are not compromised as passenger numbers grow towards 2 million per year and beyond. The terminal building is becoming 90 metres longer and will open in phases throughout 2013. Phase 1 - the Arrivals area is already open and has enhanced baggage reclaim facilities and much more space for immigration as well as a dedicated domestic arrivals route. The amount of space for passengers in the security area will increase (Phase 2 - opening October), as will the number of check in desks / baggage drop off points (Phase 3 opening November). The Departure Lounge will also grow in size to enhance the experience for passengers relaxing and awaiting boarding after security - this 4 th and final phase of the project will complete in early 2014. 11
