Luberon Senanque Abbey Located in a wild isolated valley just north of Gordes, the Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque is a lovely medieval Cistercian abbey that is one of the best places to see the famous lavender fields of Provence. Founded in 1148 and once again populated by Cistercian monks, the peaceful abbey is known as one of three Cistercian abbeys, called the three sisters of Provence. The monks who live at Sénanque today still grow lavender and tend honey bees for their livelihood.

The village is also officially listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The cultural heritage is exceptionally rich with 22 architectural treasures, classified as historical monuments. Among these are for example the church, the castle, the townhall and the chapel. The village can only be visited by foot and you will admire the ancient houses that have been carefully restored, beautiful renaissance façades and several magnificent "hôtels particuliers" which today serve as art galleries or museums.
