LOGISTICAL INFORMATION NOTE FOR: MEETING OF THE FORUM FOR ACADEMI AND RESEARCH INSTITUTIONS (FARI) OF THE WESTERN INDIAN OCEAN (WIO) REGION FROM 12 TH -13 TH DECEMBER 2017 & REGIONAL WORKSHOP IN SUPPORT OF THE SECOND CYCLE OF THE REGULAR PROCESS FOR GLOBAL REPORTING & ASSESSMENT OF THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT, INCLUDING SOCIOECONOMIC ASPECTS FROM 14 TH 15TH DECEMBER 2017 AT THE SEA CLIFF RESORT & SPA - STONE TOWN, ZANZIBAR - TANZANIA Welcome note The Programme through Nairobi Convention Secretariat in collaboration with Western Indian Ocean Marine Science Association (WIOMSA) are organizing a meeting of the Forum for Academic and Research Institutions (FARI) of the Western Indian Ocean (WIO) region on 12-13 December 2017. The FARI meeting will be held back to back with the Regional Workshop in support of the second cycle of the Regular Process for Global Reporting and Assessment of the Marine Environment, including Socioeconomic Aspects (the Regular Process ) which will be held on 14-15 December 2017 in Zanzibar. Venue for the workshop: The workshop will take place at the Sea Cliff Resort in Stone Town Zanzibar which is approximately 30 to 40 minutes drive from the airport. The cost of a Visa is USD 50. All participants from outside Tanzania will need a valid passport to travel to Tanzania. Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months after your arrival date in Tanzania and have at least one full clean page for the entry stamp. For more information on travel and visa regulations for Tanzania, visit the following website: http://www.tanzania.go.tz/visa.html. The website provides comprehensive details on immigration services provided by the Department of Immigration of Tanzania. All delegates are advised to carry their invitation letters, a yellow fever vaccination certificate and the accommodation details for the purposes of visa application. 1

Please note that there are designated taxis at the airport arrivals. Transport to and from the Meeting Venue: Participants will be provided for transport to and from the hotel. Buses will depart from Tembo Hotel at 7:30am and stop at the hotel in the evening to pick up participants. Coordination can be done to ensure that all participants access transport around/where they are accommodated. Accommodation details to be forwarded to our logistics contact persons below to enable facilitation of transport. Daily Subsistence Allowance (DSA): sponsored participants will be paid their DSA in Zanzibar. The sponsored participants are kindly requested to bring their boarding passes in order to collect their DSA. The current UN DSA rate for Zanzibar is USD.170 per night. Any participants that are unable to stay for the duration of the meeting are requested to inform the organizing team as soon as possible, so that the daily subsistence allowance can be adjusted accordingly. Registration of Meeting participants: 2

All meeting participants are required to register at the Registration desk outside the meeting room before the meeting starts. The registration will take place from 0800-0830 hrs. Languages: Official Languages in Zanzibar are English and Swahili. The meeting will be conducted in English. Weather and time zone: Zanzibar weather is typically tropical with high humidity levels and light breezes in the evening. In November temperatures can go up to 30 C during hot days and 25 C on warm nights. Please bring appropriate sunscreen block/ hats. Participants are advised to bring light clothing and cover up in the evenings. There are mosquitoes in Zanzibar therefore participants are advised to carry insect repellent and take precautionary anti-malarial medication if necessary, as advice by a physician. Zanzibar is 3 hours ahead of the GMT. Health Requirements: Insurance: Participants are advised to carry their yellow fever vaccination certificate and also to arrange for travel insurance at their own expense against sickness, accident, third party risk for the period of the meeting. will not assume responsibility for any other expenditure, including the following: Cost incurred by the participants in respect of travel insurance, accident insurance, medical bills or hospitalization fees in connection with attending the meeting; Compensation in the event of death or disability of participants in connection with attending the meeting; and Any loss or damage to personal property of participants while attending the meeting or losses or damages claimed by third parties as a result of any negligence on the part of the participants. Electricity Supply: The standard voltage is 240 V. The standard frequency is 50 Hz. The power sockets that are used are of type G. Below you find pictures of these power sockets and corresponding plugs. If your appliances have a different shape, you may need a plug adapter. Internet Access: There will be limited internet access available at the hotel conference room. 3

Currency and Exchange rate: The monetary unit is Tanzania Shilling (TZS).
