Countless trails lead through this high valley and through the tranquil side valleys and frozen lakes can be explored with your skis. Not only will this journey lead you to the highlights of the Engadin ski marathon: you will visit the Roseg glacier, slide to the Morteratsch valley and visit the chic winter sport destinations Maloja, Pontresina and Silvaplana. CHARACTERISTICS OF THE TOUR Varied trails in one of the most beautiful mountain landscapes of the Alps are waiting for you. Good basic fitness for stages up to 20 kilometres in an altitude of 1,800 above sea level is required. DAILY PRORAMME: Day 1: Arrival in Pontresina Individual arrival; Day 2: Round trip Val Roseg & Val Morteratsch (15-18km) Impressive views of the snow covered peaks of the Bernina group; Day 3: Pontresina - La Punt/Zuoz (18 km) Following the tracks of the Engadin ski marathon; Day 4: La Punt/Zuoz - Zernez - Maloja (18 km) Zernez, the door to the Swiss National Park; Day 5: Round trip Maloja (11-25/18 km) Visit the towns of Sils Maria and Silvaplana; Day 6: Maloja - Pontresina (22 km) Silvaplana, lake of St. Moritz and back to Pontresina; Day 7: Departure or extension Individual departure or possibility to extend your holidays;
Day 1: Individual arrival in Pontresina Day 2: Round trip Val Roseg & Val Morteratsch (approx. 15-18 km) A classic trail leads through Roseg valley and offers impressive views of the snow covered peaks of the Bernina group. The view of Roseg glacier is among the most beautiful sceneries of the alps. Those travelling with skating skis can continue to the Val Morteratsch after visiting the demanding competitive trail in the Roseg valley. Duration: approx. 3-4 hours. Skating: 18 km, Classic: 15 km; Day 3: Pontresina - La Punt/Zuoz (approx. 18 km) Following the tracks of the Engadin ski marathon. The trails along the marathon route suite both classic crosscountry skiing and skating skiing. After leaving Pontresina you head towards Samedan. Athletic runners can extend todays stage by going for a spin through the Starzerwald. But be careful: In this part, demanding climbs and downhill tracks are to be found. Duration: approx. 4 hours. Skating/Classic: 18 km; Day 4: La Punt/Zuoz - Zernez - Maloja (approx. 18 km) You follow the river Inn which has its source in the Malojapass and originates in Engadin. In the first section you can take it easy and have your pick of multiple alternatives. Near S-chanf, the valley narrows and the trails become more challenging. The tour leads through hilly terrain and ends in Zernez, the gate to the Swiss national park. By train back to La Punt / Zuoz. Duration: approx. 5 hours. Skating/Classic: 18 km; Day 5: Round trip Maloja (approx. 11-25/18 km) At the Malojapass, numerous possibilities are waiting for you. Athletic runner have a round trip to Lägh da Cavloc, an idyllic tarn. If you want to spend a relaxing day on your skis, take the trail across the Lej da Segl and visit the towns of Sils Maria und Silvaplana. Duration: approx. 3-4 hours. Skating: 11-25 km, Classic: 18 km; Day 6: Maloja - Pontresina (approx. 22 km) As a finale we have the supreme trail of the Engadin ski marathon. Once again you can choose whether you wish to take the easier trails across the frozen lake or if you would like to conquer the more challenging hillside trails. The tour leads past Silvaplana and the lake of St. Moritz and back to Pontresina. Duration: approx. 5 hours. Skating/Classic: 22 km; Day 7: Departure or extension Individual departure or possibility to extend your stay. Arrival: By car Pontresina is also accessible by bus or private car via well-maintained alpine roads from northern Switzerland, Ticino, Italy and Austria If you want to avoid going over a mountain pass road by car, you can always load your car onto a car-carrying train in Klosters/Selfranga. By train The trip on the Rhaetian Railway (RhB) from Chur to Engadin is one of the most scenic and technically interesting in Europe, with its helical tunnels vertiginous viaducts but you can also travel to the Engadin from Landquart via the Klosters - Vereina tunnel the train journey from Zurich Central Station to Pontresina takes about 3 hours. By plane There is also an airport not far from Pontresina: Engadin Airport offers flight connections to the international airports of Zurich, Geneva, Basel, Milan and Munich.
