MS Expedition Antarctica Fact Sheet The MS Expedition provides an intimate small-ship cruising experience. Completely refurbished in 2009, she boasts spacious cabins, each featuring ocean-facing windows or portholes and private en-suite facilities. Large common areas and observation decks provide panoramic views of the distinctive landscapes of some of the world's most remote regions. The Expedition's spacious confines can hold as many as 140 passengers, but our commitment to keeping group sizes small means you'll never have to share it with more than 131 others. Many expedition cruise operators offer you a choice of space, comfort or expertise; the MS Expedition delivers all three at a price few can top. Pre-departure Information

What food should I expect? A great journey deserves extraordinary food, and a voyage on the MS Expedition is no exception. The ship's dining room is large enough to seat all guests in one sitting, where you'll be served a diverse selection of gourmet dishes prepared by professional chefs. Breakfasts and lunches are served buffet style, while dinner is a four-course meal. Vegetarian options are available for all meals but if you have any additional special dietary requirements please advise us at the time of booking. Is there a laundry service onboard? Yes. We offer daily laundry service onboard, with the exception of the final two days of your cruise. Charges are very reasonable and per item. What do I need for the excursions? You can find a comprehensive list on every trip itinerary under the trip details list but essentials include waterproof clothing, hats, gloves, and warm clothing. We also highly recommend binoculars and a camera. What do I wear onboard? Comfort is key onboard the MS Expedition so we suggest you bring casual and practical clothing to wear during your time on the ship. The ship is well heated so it s generally only when you head out on deck or on your excursions that you will need particularly warm clothing. For this reason we recommend bringing clothes you can easily layer as you may find yourself having to add layers in a rush if there s an unexpected wildlife sighting! Do I need to bring Wellington Boots? The MS Expedition offers complimentary Wellington boots for all guests so you can pack just a little bit lighter! Essential for landings, these pull-on waterproof boots are yours for the duration of your voyage. As some sizes are not available please check your trip details document before you travel. Do I need to purchase a guidebook? All guests aboard the MS Expedition will be given a complimentary destination guide to keep. For Antarctica voyages you will receive a complimentary copy of Peter Carey & Craig Franklin's Antarctica Cruising Guide. More than just a cruising guide, this 280-page book offers up in-depth information on landings, wildlife and history.
Our Expedition Team have hand-selected guides they believe are the most suitable for your journey. We also offer a wide range of expedition guides and books in the Lonely Planet Library that can be used for reference whilst onboard. Is there Internet access onboard? Internet access is available onboard on all Antarctica voyages but, unfortunately, not on trips to the Arctic. However, a ship-based email system is available in the Arctic, so you will have an e-mail account to stay in touch with family and friends. Antarctic internet access is wireless and available in cabins on Deck 4, and in all public areas on Deck 4 and Deck 5. Due to the remote areas we cruise, connections can be slow so guests will be charged for data used rather than time spent online. How easy is it getting on and off the Zodiacs? The MS Expedition has a Zodiac platform making it as straightforward as possible to get on and off a zodiac crew, both on the platform and in the Zodiac, will assist you. How do I add kayaking or camping excursions to my trip? Antarctica cruises have a select number of kayaking and camping spots. Please note that kayaking and camping excursions should be confirmed at time of booking and can only be booked prior to departure. We strongly advise booking these excursions early space is limited and they are generally fully-booked long before the cruise departs. What s not included and how much money do I need? USD is the standard currency used onboard and we accept all major credit cards and travellers cheques. All your meals and excursions are included in the cruise price generally the only incidentals are beverages, gratuities (budget for $10-$15 per day) and souvenirs from the onboard gift shop. How do I know which cabin to book? There are 5 different categories of cabins. Unlike other ships, all of our cabins feature a window or porthole and private en-suite facilities. To view 360 images of each cabin type, visit 'Our Ship' page. Is there anywhere to store my wet clothes onboard? The MS Expedition boasts a large heated Mud Room for you to store your wet clothes. This means more space in your cabin and beautifully dry clothing each time you jump aboard your Zodiac!
Will I be seasick? It s best to consult your physician before you leave about effective seasickness medications even if you have never been seasick before. Unfortunately, we have no control over the seas and while the MS Expedition is one of the most stable expedition ships in her class you should still be prepared for rough seas. There is a medical clinic onboard and, should you require assistance during the cruise, a trained doctor is available for consultations. I am travelling alone will I be welcome? Yes. You should not be worried about travelling alone as many of our expedition guests travel solo. We will match travellers of the same sex with other solo travellers who indicate they are willing to share. If we are unable to find another traveller willing to share there is no single supplement charged. However, should you wish to secure your own cabin we offer a My Own Room option with a single supplement charge. What will I do each day? On an expedition cruise we suggest you expect the unexpected! No two days are ever the same and boredom is not an option. A typical day will start around 7.30am with a leisurely breakfast followed by the morning's excursion. Daily excursions vary depending on location and weather conditions but we aim for one Zodiac or shore excursion per day, two if possible. Lunch is followed by another excursion and the evening is generally kicked off with happy hour in the Discovery Lounge and a lecture or a preview of the next day's activities before dinner. Later at night, there is often live musical entertainment at the Polar Bear Pub. Since the sun rarely sets, you can really make the most of your day. What power sockets are used onboard? The electricity onboard is 220AC electrical outlets, with European 2 pin round holes, as well as 110- volt shaving sockets in the bathroom for electric razors only. You may wish to bring an international adapter. A limited supply of hair dryers and electrical adapters are available to borrow free of charge at the Purser's Desk.
