Welcome to Hôtel Chevillon in Grez-sur-Loing My name is Kerstin Decroix, intendent Hôtel Chevillon Email: kerstin.decroix@gmail.com Mobile: +33 (0) 608 576 411 I speak Swedish, French and English. Please find below some practical information about the Hôtel Chevillon. Website address of the Grez-sur-Loing Foundation is: www.grez-stiftelsen.se There you will find information about the Hôtel Chevillon s artistic and literary background, the Foundation's origins and the Foundation today. About the Hôtel Chevillon The Hôtel Chevillon is not a hotel with reception and services in the ordinary sense. It is more like a guesthouse. The place is historic and the common areas; the drawing room, the library, the kitchen, the dining room and the garden are for the residents. We will sometimes be renting the common facilities for cultural events and visiting groups. You organize yourself and your days with shopping, meals, etc. All residents have access to a large shared kitchen on the ground floor and meals are sometimes arranged jointly. Please keep the kitchen tidy and clean for everyone s comfort and make sure that your remaining food items are cleaned out before your departure. The Hôtel Chevillon is not adjusted for the disabled. Pets are not allowed. The apartments, studios, guest rooms. The assigned apartment is intended for the recipient of the stipend and a family member i.e. maximum of two people. Instead of a family member the Foundation may upon 1
request admit an assistant to join instead. For other friends and/or colleagues there are guest rooms (to a limited extent) for rent (see below). If you intend to bring children an agreement must be made well in advance with us. Due to unforeseen circumstances, it may sometimes be necessary to change apartment or studio. In such cases, we do our utmost to offer a similar apartment / studio. Sheets and towels are provided. Washer and dryer are available. You are responsible for keeping the apartment tidy during your stay and at your departure. Each apartment is equipped with a mini-kitchen that, due to hygienic and safety reasons, is only meant for light cooking such as coffee, tea and breakfast. For heavier cooking, the larger common kitchen should be used. The Hôtel Chevillon is a nonsmoking guesthouse and smoking is not allowed indoors. This applies to all public areas, apartments and studios. The floors are cold during the winter period bring therefore slippers/shoes for indoor use. Guest rooms The rent per guest in a guest room is EUR 40 for the first night and thereafter EUR 20/night. Bed linens, towels and cleaning after the stay are included. Arrival At the end of the month several apartments are usually getting new residents, at the same time. In order to organize the shift between departures and arrivals please contact me before purchasing your tickets to discuss your planned arrival and departure times. If you fly to Paris, it is highly recommended to arrive with a morning flight as the journey to Grez-sur-Loing takes between two and three hours from the airports. 2
If you travel by car give yourself some extra time, don t be a time optimist when you estimate your arrival time. Even though parking in Grez is limited there are usually a few free spots around Hôtel Chevillon where you can park your car. Please note that yellow marking means parking prohibited and blue marking means limited parking. Since I work part time I am not always at Hôtel Chevillon to greet our guests. It is therefore necessary to contact me at least one week in advance of your arrival to receive instructions how to enter Hôtel Chevillon. Departure The apartment must be left in the same condition as on arrival - we do a joint inspection before your departure. Contact me in advance to arrange date and time. Please remove the bed linens, bathroom rug and towels and bring them down to the laundry room. Please turn down the heat on departure and during longer absence. The apartment must be emptied and cleaned by noon the day of departure. When going home, make sure you take an afternoon plane. Please find detailed travel information to and from the airport below. Insurance Please arrange with a travel insurance throughout your stay covering medical and other emergencies, personal injury and death, lost, stolen or damaged items, accidental damage or injury caused by you, etc. To access emergency medical and dental help at the same cost as the French citizens you also need the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) that is used across Europe. 3
Next of kin If anything happens to you during your stay in Grez I need to know who your next of kin are. Please send contact information of two people one week ahead of your arrival. Internet Wireless Internet works practically everywhere indoors. Sometimes, there is an impaired connectivity, probably due to Grez-sur-Loing being a small village and that the coverage therefore can vary. If problems occur permanently please let me know. Please do not touch the routers. WiFi integrity of the system is completely dependent on the interaction between these routers. Materials Bring as much of your art material as possible from home to Hôtel Chevillon since there is not much to buy in Grez. We have a small printer (black/white), which can be used by our guests. Xerox copies and colour prints can be made in my office when it is manned. Bicycles A couple of bicycles are available for you to borrow when needed. You are responsible for the bike when using it, which means protecting it from theft and repairing if tire puncture occurs. Shops etc There is a small grocery shop nearby in Grez which is open from 8:30 to 21:00, closed a 4
couple of hours in the middle of the day. The bakery is located across the street from Hôtel Chevillon and is open every day except Wednesdays and Sunday afternoon. Travel information Arrival Grez-sur-Loing is located near Fontainbleau, 70 km southeast of Paris. It is easiest to come here on a weekday when the bus services to Grez from Melun are more frequent. When you arrive at the airport you have to take a train or bus to the train station Gare de Lyon in Paris. An easy way to go from the airport, which is included in the below mentioned monthly pass, is to take the RER B to Chatelet Les Halles, change to the RER A to Gare de Lyon; just walk over to the other side of the platform. Trains leave 0:19 and 0:49 every hour from Gare de Lyon to Melun. The final destination of these trains are either Montargis or Montereau. They run from the top platform of Gare de Lyon, SNCF Grande Lignes. Coming by RER from the airport you have to go up to the top of Gare de Lyon. When you reach Melun you should go to the end of the station and take bus 34; Seine et Marne Express to Grez-sur-Loing. The bus runs about once every half hour. It is also possible to take the RER D train in Paris and go to Melun; this RER, however, stops at every station. Monthly pass There is a transport card throughout the Ile de France called Pass Navigo which costs 70 per month (valid for an entire calendar month, 1-31) + 5 for the magnetic card. This card can be purchased at the airport in the RATP or SNCF Transilien booths. A photo is required. All vehicles can then be used, except Air France buses, in what is called Ile de France. 6
Attached, please find links with the RER maps, the transports from Charles De Gaulle airport, train and bus times and walkways between the station in Melun and the bus stop, as well as the bus stop and Hôtel Chevillon when arriving in Grez-sur-Loing. The walkway from the train station in Melun to Bus 34 (Transdev) The walkway to the Hôtel Chevillon in Grez-sur-Loing from the bus stop for Bus 34 (Transdev) from Melun The bus from Melun makes three stops before arriving at Grez (Pl. De l Étape and Château, both in Fontainebleau, and later in the village Bourron). Press the stop button after approximately 30 minutes of travel time, just when you have passed a petrol station (Total) on your right hand side. The bus station might seem to be placed in the middle of nowhere, but that s not the case. Walk down the staircase, take a left and walk under the road, and continue until the end of the road. Continue on the road to the right, it will first bend to the left and then to the right. After a short while you should have arrived at Hôtel Chevillon! Please see map below. 8
