SOUTH AFRICA // General Information PASSPORT AND VISA Traveling to and from South Africa isvery traveler friendlt and not complicated at all. Once landed in South Africa, we will clear customs, which is similar to clearing customs in the US (ie fill out a form and wait in line). Everyone will need a VALID passport from his or her home country. WHEN TRAVEL- ING TO SOUTH AFRICA YOU WILL NEED A MINIMUM OF 2 BLANK PAGES IN THE BACK IN YOUR PASSPORT. If you currently have a passport, please check in advance to see that you have at least two pages with no stamps on them - if not, you will not be allowed to board the plane in Johannesburg. SHOTS/VACCINATIONS Please consult your family doctor. He may essentially refer you to a travel clinic (they specialize in overseas travel) where they reccommend certain vaccinations. MONEY It s suggested that you carry cash for any potential small purchases at the airport; we would suggest that $100 would be plenty. Please don t bring large sums of cash. Most things can be paid for by credit card. At camp there is a small store (called a curio) where they have small souvenirs and snacks. For small purchases the lodge will run a tab for each traveler to be paid for at one time with a credit card. Your animals, hunting fees, snacks etc will be able to be paid for at one time with a credit card. The lodge takes both Visa/Master card. You will also have multiple opportunities to buy souvenirs. WHAT TO WEAR The typical dress in S. Africa is very similar to what you would wear at home. Jeans and casual shirts are very common. In camp wear what is comfortable, jeans/shorts with a tshirt or sweatshirt are the norm. During our ministry time in the schools, communities, or churches jeans/khakis (or a skirt below the knees for ladies) and a polo/tshirt is preferred. Casual and COMFORTABLE shoes are best. NO shorts are to be worn outside of time spent at camp. Please be mindful of Who you are representing and choose to dress modestly. The weather is very dry so it s typical to have a 30-50 degree temperature swing from the low at night around 40 F to a high of 90 F by mid-day. Mornings will be a bit chilly, but it warms up quickly. Dressing in layers is very helpful. Sunglasses and sunscreen are recommended - lots and lots of sunshine!
