ARGENTINA: ADVENTURE OF A LIFETIME Led by Rabbi Peter Berg March 5-13, 2018 with optional Patagonia Extension March 13 18, 2018 (As of 7/6/17) Day 1: Monday, March 5, 2018: DEPARTURE Depart on our flight to Argentina. Day 2: Tuesday, March 6, 2018: WELCOME TO BRAZIL AND ARGENTINA! We arrive in Iguazu Falls this morning and are met by an Ayelet Tours representative. Transfer to the National Park on the Brazilian side, where we have time to change into lighter clothing and store our bags. We begin our discovery of Iguazu with a walk along the paths following the many cascades and then along the catwalk that leads very close to the bottom of the Devil s Throat, the most magnificent of the falls, where we view the thundering waters falling below. We have our first panoramic views of the majestic falls of the Argentinean side from the promenade. At the end of our tour we cross over to the Argentinean side and transfer to our hotel for checkin, with time to relax and freshen up. Tonight we enjoy a welcome dinner together in a private room at a local restaurant. Overnight in Iguazu Falls Day 3: Wednesday, March 7, 2018: IGUAZU FALLS Today we view the falls from the Argentinean side, which consist of 275 different waterways that come together and fall 250 feet in a crescendo of astounding beauty. The Iguazu is wider than Victoria Falls, higher than Niagara Falls and many say more beautiful than both! The tour to Iguazu Falls National Park is an exciting way to explore the hidden life of the Missionary Jungle. We will explore both the upper circuit and lower circuit and will enjoy a ride in a gas-propelled train, and a ride in four-wheel vehicles towards Yacarctea Path to the heart of the jungle. Here we begin an unforgettable experience, sailing through the falls at high speed until we reach the point where the falls meet the riverbed. Tonight we enjoy dinner together. Overnight in Iguazu Falls

Day 4: Thursday, March 8, 2018: IGUAZU FALLS TO BUENOS AIRES Breakfast and check out of our hotel. Transfer to the airport for our morning flight to Buenos Aires. We begin with an overview tour, covering much of the regal architecture of the city, including the Government House and National Congress. See Plaza de Mayo, scene of countless political demonstrations throughout the years. We learn about the Mothers of the Plaza De Mayo, as our guide gives us a brief history of Argentinean politics. Visit the colorful La Boca neighborhood. Check into our hotel with time to relax. Day 5: Friday, March 9, 2018: DISCOVERING BUENOS AIRES This morning we participate in a special program with Herman Schiller, co-founder (with Marshall Meyer) of the Jewish Movement for Human Rights in Argentina, and a prominent left wing activist. We will learn firsthand about the political and social history of the country, and the current challenges it faces. Next we travel to the ORT Technical Jewish School to meet with students and teachers on this innovative campus. We tour the Evita Museum. Located in a renovated building with Spanish and Italian Renaissance designs, the Evita Museum reconstructs the rigorous historical life and works of one of the most important women in Argentinean history, Eva Peron, and uses technology to bring her to the present. We proceed to Recoleta, one of the most sophisticated and desirable areas of Buenos Aires. The name comes from the Order of Discalced Carmelite Monks, who established their monastery there at the beginning of the 17th Century. The Cemetery of Recoleta, delights visitors with its location, its rich architecture and the social and political personalities of Argentina whose remains are there, one of the most distinguished being Eva Peron. Time to refresh before we join Kabbalat Shabbat services at AMIJAI. We remain for Shabbat dinner with Rabbi Avruj and community leaders..

Day 6: Saturday, March 10, 2018: SHABBAT SHALOM! TIGRE TOUR/PARANA CRUISE This morning we take a half day Tigre tour with Parana River Delta cruise through the elegant riverside suburbs of Olivos, San Isidro and San Fernando on the way to Tigre, one of the most elegant areas in the outskirts of Buenos Aires. Arrive in San Isidro to visit the Cathedral, then continue on to Tigre, a charming village with many rowing and yacht clubs, summer residences, and restaurants by the riverside. Enjoy a one hour cruise along the channels of the Paraná River, showcasing the unique delta that ends at the Rio de la Plata, the widest river in the world. We stop for a traditional coffee & pastry at Café Tortoni. Inaugurated in 1858 and inspired by Fin de siècle, Café Tortoni was selected by UCityGuides as one of the ten most beautiful cafes in the world. We continue with an inside tour of the Colon Theatre, one of the world s great opera houses. Free time before a private evening Tango lesson, followed by dinner and watching a live Tango show! Day 7: Sunday, March 11, 2018: JEWISH LIFE IN BUENOS AIRES This morning, we meet with Rabbi Ernesto Yattah for a fascinating discussion on the history and current state of Buenos Aires Jewish community. Next we enjoy a visit to the San Telmo neighborhood, one of the oldest in the city, including the colorful and eclectic San Telmo Sunday Fair. Pass through the Jewish neighborhoods of Once and Abasto, where there are several synagogues, two major Jewish clubs (Hebraica and Macabi), schools, kosher stores, pizzerias, and restaurants. Next we visit the headquarters of AMIA (Mutual Israelite Argentine Association), founded in 1894. The new building replaces the old one, which was destroyed during a terrorist attack in 1994 and includes a beautiful Agam sculpture in the welcome courtyard. Continue to the Israeli Embassy Square & Memorial, dedicated to the community members that perished in the terrorist attack of 1992. This evening, we ll learn to make our own empanadas and enjoy a fun and interactive dining and culinary evening at the award winning Argentine Experience. Day 8: Monday, March 12, 2018: GAUCHO ESTANCIA Our morning begins with a meeting at the Libertad Synagogue with Rabbi Sergio Bergman, who is currently part of President Macri s cabinet as Environmental Minister and a personal friend of Pope Francis. We have the chance to discuss the political life of the Argentinean Jewish community.

Travel through the Argentinean pampas on a full-day trip from Buenos Aires to the Estancia Santa Susana. (Depart from BA by 10:30 am) On our relaxing day in the Argentinean countryside, we will enjoy a traditional Asado barbecue lunch, be entertained by folkloric songs and dances and be amazed by the gauchos' legendary horseback-riding skills. Return to Buenos Aires. This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner, as we recount all we have experienced together! Day 9: Tuesday, March 13, 2018: DEPARTURE Breakfast and check out of our hotel. Transfer to the airport for our flight to back to the United States. OR CONTINUE ON OUR PATAGONIA EXTENSION MARCH 13 17, 2018 Day 9: Tuesday, March 13, 2018: EL CALAFATE Breakfast and check out of our hotel. Transfer to the airport for our flight to El Calafate, a city located on the shores of Lake Argentino. The name of the city is derived from a common Patagonian bush with yellow flowers and dark blue berries, the Calafate. Upon arrival we travel to our hotel for check in and time to refresh. This afternoon, we enjoy a visit to the Glaciarium, a unique museum dedicated to the science of ice, featuring a real ice bar! Tonight we have dinner at La Tablita or another local restaurant. Day 10: Wednesday, March 14, 2018: ESTANCIA CRISTINA & UPSALA GLACIER This morning, we depart on a full day trip to Patagonia, the heart of the Argentinean south. We take a boat and sail along icebergs and stunning sceneries of the western front of the Upsala Glacier. We continue to the Cristina Canal and disembark at the Estancia Cristina where we have a guided visit to Costumbrista Museum. Boxed lunch included along the way. We board ATVs and travel the mountainous roads, followed by a short walk for a view of the Upsala Glacier, Lake Guillermo, Southern Patagonian Ice Cape and the Andes. We return to our hotel for a free evening and dinner on our own.

Day 11: Thursday, March 15, 2018: PERITO MORENO GLACIER - A UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE This morning, we depart on an unforgettable full day excursion to Glacier National Park. We take in the incredible views from the catwalks facing the majestic Perito Moreno glacier. It is 5 km wide and 60 meters high (almost 200 feet), and is one of the last advancing glaciers on earth. OPTIONAL MINI-TREK ON THE ICE (Additional Cost travel and timing separate from rest of the group): Arrive at the port Bahia Bajo las Sombras and board our boat. Cross the Rico arm of Lake Argentino on our way up to the Southwestern coast of the lake. We disembark from our boat and continue with our expert trekking guide for a walk across a dense forest of lengas that leads to the edge of the ice. Here we will place the crampons on and receive instructions on ice trekking. The walk on the glacier takes approximately two hours. Enjoy the outstanding views of the lake from the surface of the glacier. Boxed lunch is included along the way. Return to our hotel and enjoy a festive farewell dinner together at a local restaurant. Day 12: Friday, March 16, 2018: EL CALAFATE BALCONIES Breakfast and check out of our hotel. This morning, we travel toward Cerro Huyliche (Huyliche Hill). We board our 4WD vehicles for an exciting 90 minute adventure along the Calafate Balconies. We will enjoy gorgeous views of Calafate, and the Lago Argentino. Weather permitting, we may even see Fitz Roy or Chalten Mountains in the distance. We may encounter condors, and will certainly have the chance to appreciate the local flora and fauna. After our drive, we begin the descent slowly back to El Calafate. Later this afternoon we catch our flight to Buenos Aires. Check-into our hotel. Day 13: Saturday, March 17, 2018: DEPARTURE Breakfast and check-out. Today is at leisure for last minute shopping!
