Costa Rica Adventure Tour Day 1 - Arrive in Costa Rica After clearing customs and immigration, proceed to the reception area, where our local representative will be holding a board with your name on it. You will be greeted with a Bienvenidos a Costa Rica and transferred to the romantic Casa Turire Hotel, located in the pastoral Turrialba Valley, 40 miles from San Jose. Depending on your arrival time you may have time to take a tour of the plantation on horseback or by car, or take a dip in the spring-fed swimming pool. Day 2 - To The River! The Reventazon River gathers its waters from the rugged core of the Cordillera de Talamanca, from where it tumbles down along a cliff-lined gorge to finally meander through a gorgeous landscape of coffee and sugar cane plantations. We depart early in
the morning for the put-in point, where we don vests and helmets while listening to a safety orientation. Then it is 10 miles of the best class III rapids you will ever paddle complete with stunning jungle scenery and tons of wildlife watching opportunities including toucans, kingfishers, herons, tanagers, iguanas and bright green Jesus Christ lizards (you know, the funny ones that run over water). In the afternoon we return to our plantation hotel. (B,L) Day 3 - Volcanoes and Hot Springs Tour - Arenal The day starts with an overland transfer to the Arenal area, a three-hour ride, which will take us through papaya and pineapple plantations into one of the most fascinating areas in Costa Rica. The rest of the day is free to scout the surroundings or relax in the rushing waters naturally heated by the volcano and channeled into numerous hot springs. At night, the most active of all Costa Rica's volcanoes may display a true show of fiery explosions. (B) Day 4 - Arenal National Park Tour This morning don our hiking boots and join our guide for an excursion around the growling volcano. You will trek across fields of solidified lava enjoying stunning vistas of Lake Arenal before entering a dense rain forest where you may spot howler and white-faced monkeys, coatis, toucans and parrots. Return to the hotel in time for lunch and a short siesta. In the afternoon jump on horses for an easy ride to the truly beautiful La Fortuna Waterfall. You may choose to take a dip in the clear waters before returning to the hotel. This evening you may want to return to the Hot Springs to soothe your muscles in the inviting pools. (B) Day 5 - A Day For You - Relax or Adventure Today you may take a break from our eventful schedule. But if you are still in the mood for some more action, here are some ideas: Take advantage of Lake Arenal s excellent conditions for windsurfing and fishing, visit the Venado Caves, go mountain biking or sign up for the full day tour to Cano Negro Wildlife Refuge. Or you may take a stroll in the surrounding countryside, catch up with your reading and revisit the hot springs. At night, we will be expectantly waiting for the volcano to offer one of its fiery performances. (B) Day 6 - To The Coast - Tamarindo Our private driver will pick you up at your hotel and drive you around Lake Arenal up to the junction with the Panamerican Highway. Once there you will be heading for Liberia, the main getaway to the Costa Rican North Pacific. Once in Liberia, we take a turn and head for the fishing village of Tamarindo, which will welcome you with its quaint hotels, fabulous beach and laid-back atmosphere. The rest of the day is at leisure to enjoy the beach, admire the sunset and dine on fresh seafood. (B)
