JULY NEWSLETTER Club ID 86630 What s Inside: July 2016 IFTAR FOR ORPHANS CLUB ASSEMBLY HANDOVER CEREMONY TRADITIONAL CRAFTS ROTARY FOUNDATION MAKE-UP MEETINGS ABROAD FOUADA IBRAHIM PRESIDENTS MEETING IFTAR ORPHANS FOR During the last few days of Ramadan 2016, RC Red Sea El Gouna invited 45 orphans from El Nakib and Taha Hussien Schools in Hurghada to enjoy Iftar at McDonald s Restaurant at Senzo Mall. The shopping mall was busy with many fun activities and entertainment for children during Ramadan.
CLUB ASSEMBLY HANDOVER CEREMONY On Tuesday 12 th July, RC Red Sea El Gouna held a Club Assembly meeting to agree the Strategic Plan 2016-17, to brainstorm new projects and activities, and review the club's strengths, weaknesses, and opportunities. On Tuesday 19 th July, the official handover ceremony was held for Club President 2015-16 Sherif Abdel Aziz and Club President 2016-17 Rafeek Ramzy. The six district awards arrived back from Cairo and were proudly placed in the display cabinet. Dr Rafeek Ramzy congratulated all the members on their amazing achievements. He said this is a remarkable success for a new Rotary Club in a remote location where all members were new to Rotary. Assistant Governor Jean Terzian also joined the meeting. The presidents exchanged Rotary pins and Sherif was presented with a Rotary clock with thanks from the members of the club for his great year of service.
The following Rotary Club members received awards for their outstanding contribution during the previous year: TRADITIONAL CRAFTS Georgina Cole Gehan Fouda Hany Agayby Asmaa Mousa Mick Verhoogen John Horis The new president spoke next about his plans for the year ahead, and presented the revised club committees for 2016-17. The Strategic Plan 2016-17 was then discussed in detail. Projects and activities will reflect the official Rotary Monthly Awareness themes starting in August with Membership. RC Red Sea El Gouna has continually supported the traditional crafts of the Red Sea region. It was with great delight the club discovered a new extension to Senzo Mall south of Hurghada that is dedicated to traditional crafts.
Al Mazzar Galery Mall is located by Gate 1 and the entrance is near Kidzo Indoor Playground. The escalators take you to the upper floor where Yadaweya has several shops with a wonderful array of traditional crafts. ENVIRONMENTAL NEWS Rotary Club of Red Sea - El Gouna will show their support by inviting Bedouin women from the Eastern Desert to exhibit and sell their work at an event to be arranged soon in El Gouna. THE ROTARY FOUNDATION The Rotary Foundation is responsible worldwide for district and global grants to help clubs achieve their projects. TRF is celebrating its centennial year and asking all clubs to highlight their work on social media with the hash-tag #100ActsofGood. A symposium is being held at Technology University of Berlin Campus El Gouna during October entitled Flash Floods in Wadi Systems. Ahmed El Hadidi from Campus El Gouna - TU Berlin spoke during Earth Week 2015 about his research during the incredible floods in this region which happened 9th March 2014. Their studies revealed that an estimated 35 million cubic meters of rain water fell that day in the Bili Basin; seven million cubic meters of which flooded out of the valley to the sea. This valuable water had a value of 35 million Egyptian pounds. El Hadidi presented his research during Earth Week of ways to capture the valuable water with sub-surface dams. The Symposium is being held 25-27th October at TUB Campus El Gouna.
SOLAR ENERGY MAKE-UP MEETINGS ABROAD The American University in Cairo and Technology University of Berlin - Campus El Gouna are organising an international conference for Solar Energy Solutions for Electricity & Water Supply to Rural Areas. The Conference will be held in Cairo 12-15 October 2016. As this is one of Rotary's areas of focus, Carsten Riechelmann at TUB has asked for Rotary Egypt's help in finding interested participants and possible speakers. District Governor 2016-17 Mayan Raslan is urging all Rotary Clubs in District 2451 Egypt to be involved in a project in Fayoum to supply homes with clean water and electricity. For further information about the conference, please contact: carsten.riechelmann@tu-berlin.de On Tuesday 25 th July 2016, Rotarian John Horis visited Rotary Club of Rastavi International in Tbilisi, Georgia. During the meeting, he was given the honor of pinning their newest member. Two days later, John was invited out to dinner with members of Rotary Club of Tbisili International. The fun night included singing traditional songs and discussing cultural differences.
1 st CLUB PRESIDENTS MEETING IN CAIRO ROTARY SPONSORED STUDENT IBRAHIM FOUADA Club President Rafeek Ramzy attended the 1 st District Presidents Meeting on 26 th July 2016 at Safir Hotel in Dokki, Cairo. The meeting was for all the newly elected presidents for 2016-17 who took over their role in July throughout District 2451 Egypt. There are now over 90 clubs throughout the country. Items on the agenda were: The participation of clubs in district projects. Assistant Governors to report club data monthly to the District Governor. Encourage all members to activate a My Rotary account. Setting goals on Rotary International Club Central. Settle all financial dues. Announce all key events in 2016-17. Guidelines for project photos to attain a professional Rotary image. RC Red Sea El Gouna have been sponsoring the studies of Fouada Ibrahim to attend the German Hotel School in El Gouna. Fouada s studies began in September 2015 and will continue for three years. Fouada is currently undertaking work experience at Labranda Club Paradisio Hotel in El Gouna. Fouada received glowing reports from the hotel management about her positive attitude, work performance, punctuality, and ability to learn new skills quickly.
