Volume 77 Issue 28 Tuesday 14 th February 2012 President : Stephen Roe. Editor : Richard Lawrence This week s speaker - Club Forum Chairman Grant Sheldon. Grant got us thinking about many and varied issues which confront the Rotary Club of Essendon today and certainly in the future. Grant created a vigorous debate. Ray Landgren had plenty to say. 1. Supply and Demand. RCE is rapidly approaching crunch time with membership falling from 80+ ten years ago to close to 70 today. A loss of membership due to age, illness and business pressures. At the same time the aspirations of the community have increased the demands on the members. Amalgamation of some of the smaller clubs that have less than 15 members. 2. Need to bring work mates, friends and others into existing projects via donations, time donations, both International and Community projects. 3. Re-establish the Friends of Rotary program. Rotary is highly respected in the community and we need to leverage of this. 4. Need for more members and more recruitment of younger members and for more spread of the load. 5. Maybe share our projects with other clubs in our cluster. 6. Continue and upgrading of the Royce Abbey Award. 7. Review of the PHF awards and how they are allocated and how some PHF s are awarded to questionable recipients. 8. Use of the Rotary grace and whether this tradition and style is suited to Todays Rotary. 9. Need for a suggestion for a new and fresh Community Project that the RCE can get involved in. 10. Finances of the General Project Funds need to be boosted with the imbalance of fund raising where by funds raised are already allocated this should be lessened. Next week Speaker : Chinese Banquet at China Max Restaurant Andrew promises lots of fun, fellowship and Even Dancing Girls! WOW! Don t Miss It!

18 th Annual RC of Greensborough Golf Day When : Friday 16 th March 2012 12 Noon. Where : Growling Frog Golf Course?? Where the heck is that? Yan Yean. Fee : $85 incl 2 course dinner, prize and trophies. Contact : Ray Lord 0412808019 New GSE Team Heading to UK in October Most of you will be aware that we are in the midst of sponsoring an out going Group Study Exchange (GSE) member to India (Del King) and we are also hosting an inbound team from India. Not to be confused with that, District are calling for nominations for a potential GSE team member and/or team leader for the GSE to the UK for approximately 4 weeks in October/November 2012. If you have any 23 43 year old full time employed family members, friends or work colleagues etc that would benefit from the fantastic experience of an overseas group study exchange then please talk to Grant Sheldon or Barbara Wyatt or check the website www.rotarydistrict9800.org In the Rotary year 2012-13 we will be exchanging Teams with D1080 in the UK which is in the vicinity of the Cambridge-Norwich area. District 1080 will be holding their District Conference in October 2012. Therefore, to enable our Outbound Team to fully prepare for the study tour we will need to select our Outbound Team in this Rotary year. The Outbound Team will leave on or about the 6th October 2012 and return on or about the 3rd November 2012. Applications for both the Team Leader and Team Members are now listed on the District web site www.rotarydistrict9800.org - if you click on the orange window top right corner marked GSE, this will give you access to the application forms for Team Leader and Team Member, and if you click on the link, Group Study 2012-13 you will get information on the study tour to District 1080.
