4 >> NEW ZEALAND CERTIFICATE IN TOURISM LEVEL 2 Your tourism course at school may include just a few tourism unit standards or you may want students to gain the New Zealand Certiicate in Tourism Level 2 qualiication. If you want to ofer the qualiication you have to either use the New Zealand School of Tourism approved programme or develop your own programme and submit it to NZQA for approval prior to use. If you currently hold accreditation to deliver tourism unit standards this is not the same thing as having an approved programme, and you will still need to develop a programme if you want to award students with the qualiication. The programme you develop and send to NZQA must meet the following Graduate Proiles. The New Zealand Certiicate in Tourism (Introductory) - Level 2, 50 credits Graduate Proile 1 Apply basic customer service skills, using appropriate communication, literacy and numeracy skills, to enhance the visitor experience - 10 credits Graduate Proile 2 Apply knowledge of speciic regions, and a broad operational knowledge of world geography in terms of characteristics relevant to tourists needs - 20 credits Graduate Proile 3 Explain the basic role of the tourism industry, in order to plan a realistic career pathway - 10 credits Graduate Proile 4 Apply best practice processes in order to recognise the impacts of tourism on the country - 10 credits

Does your Secondary School Need Programme Approval? You do not need programme approval if you are not intending to ofer the entire qualiication. Choose one of the following three options if you wish to ofer the entire qualiication: Sign a MOU with New Zealand School of Tourism and use their approved programme and accreditation. Apply to NZQA to be accredited to deliver the New Zealand School of Tourism Programme.* Develop a programme for your school that meets the graduate outcomes for the qualiication and send to NZQA. Your school can now use the programme shown on page 8. No need to get NZQA approval NZQA grants your school accreditation to deliver the New Zealand School of Tourism programme.
