Rio de Janeiro, known around the world as a top destination for samba rhythms, spacious Copacabana and Ipanema beaches and impressive mountains. Home to the Christ the Redeemer, the largest art deco statue in the world and a site which is not to be missed. Add the Carnaval celebrations and you have one of the largest street festivals in the world! Your Custom Travels is excited to share Rio de Janeiro with our guests. A mix between culture, history, relaxation and Carnaval fun. We will travel throughout the seaside city and embrace the locals and their desire to share this famed area with our group. Our local tour guide is an experienced tri-lingual expert in the area, and will be our escort throughout our time in Rio along with the YCT team. Carnaval Itinerary DAY 1: Copacabana Wednesday, February 7 th DAY 2: Angra Dos Reis Thursday, February 8 th Sailboat in Angra dos Reis Arrive into Rio de Janeiro in early morning from departure US city. (group discussions regarding arrival times closer to date of departure) After collecting luggage and clearing customs, prepare to arrive at your hotel for the week. A few hours of relaxation (nap, pool/beach time) and settling in will be followed by lunch at 2 pm (included). You are free to explore the eclectic Copacabana neighborhood filled with many options for a fun afternoon. You can walk the area to a quintessential Rio cocktail bar, stroll the promenade or enjoy a swim in the beach. Dinner and welcome party this evening are included. A true welcome Brazilian feast in a breathtaking surrounding! Early breakfast is included at the hotel. (hours are 6 am to 10:30 am throughout the length of the trip) A bus will pick us up at the hotel promptly at 7 am as we embark on a 3-hour drive to Angra dos Reis, or the Creek of the Kings, a beautiful territory with 365 islands to explore. There will be a stop for coffee, snacks and restrooms half way to our destination. 11 am: Arrival to Angra dos Reis to board a motored Sailboat for the day. We will cruise to several islands as we dance to the local rhythms with a Caiprina, the National cocktail, in hand. There will be plenty of time to snorkel and explore the beautiful waters, relax on the beach, and see a different corner of this vast country. Lunch is included. We will return to the hotel in the early evening to shower and get ready for a dinner in town (included).
DAY 3: Tijuca Forest National Park Friday, February 9 th 9:30 am: Breakfast is included at the hotel. 10 am: Leave the hotel to go to the awe-inspiring Christ the Redeemer landmark. A towering monument overlooking the Rio skyline, this 98 foot tall statue is honored as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and is Brazil s most visited site. 2:30 pm: Lunch is included in City Center or Copacabana. (location dependent on progression of day) Return to the Copacabana area, enjoy the pool or beach and perhaps a few cocktails prior to getting ready for a fun evening in the Lapa neighborhood. The area is filled with bars and restaurants in every direction and attracts a bustling, lively crowd. Dinner is included. After dinner we visit the Rio Scenarium, a unique three-story Brazilian and International live music venue with eclectic vintage accents. Rated one of the top 10 best night clubs in the world! DAY 4: Pão de Açúcar Saturday, February 10 th 9 am: Breakfast is included at the hotel. We start the day with a stroll along the Copacabana beach to meet our transportation to the famous area of Pão de Açúcar (Sugarloaf Mountain). This UNESCO World Heritage Site has a series of cable cars providing panoramic views of the city and the Christ monument we will have seen the previous day. We can relax atop the summit with snacks and coffee, watch the monkeys play in the trees, and take some excellent pictures of Rio de Janeiro. 2 pm: Lunch is included in the Ipanema region. After lunch we explore this lively area with its specialty boutiques, energetic music and many street vendors. Once back at the hotel we will prepare ourselves for a fun night of street parties, outdoor bands and live performances. We will have dinner in Ipanema tonight. The Christ the Redeemer Landmark
Carnaval Float inside of the Sambódromo DAY 5: Copacabana and Centro Sunday, February 11 th 10 am: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Today is the day we ve been waiting for as Carnaval kicks off in earnest! In the morning and early afternoon, enjoy some relaxation beachside, indulge in pool time or even a spa treatment prior to our departure this early evening at 4pm. Lunch is not included. A first league Samba School honorably invites us to walk during the official parade competition of the 2018 Carnaval events. We will be costumed in the school s official attire and will leave floating on air from the once-in-a-lifetime experience of participating in an event that millions of people devote their entire year s efforts towards. DAY 6: Copacabana and Centro Monday, February 12 th 10 am: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Take your time waking up to enjoy the day your way as Carnaval activities will be occurring during the evening hours. Lunch is included at the hotel pool. This evening we will have VIP access to see the best of the best Samba Schools for the main event during the world s largest celebration! We will be amongst the 90,000 spectators witnessing this unique performance in the impressive Sambódromo as the best schools compete for a million dollar prize and, more importantly, bragging rights for the rest of the year.
DAY 7: Centro Tuesday, February 13 th 10 am: Breakfast is included at the hotel. Following two Carnaval evenings of dancing the night away we will casually wander into the street markets to peruse and make any purchases of souvenirs. After getting our fill of shopping, we will visit some of the city s historic buildings, churches, and museums for a dose of history before concluding our time in Brazil. Lunch is included in Centro. Tonight is our Final Dinner celebration. We will return to the rooms to shower and prepare in the early evening.
