SAIRAC The Suth African Institute f Refrigeratin and Air Cnditining FOUNDING On 17 July 1951, the Suth African Institute f Refrigeratin was funded at a meeting f refrigeratin engineers and fd scientists held at the Brdeaux Htel in Cape Twn. The funding membership f 41 elected Dr Guid Dresti as the Institute s first President, an ffice that he held fr the next 5 years and again in 1957 and in 1962. In 1962, the Institute widened its scpe t include air cnditining and became the Suth African Institute f refrigeratin and Air Cnditining (SAIRAC). In 1961 SAIRAC started establishing Centres in the ther majr cities f Suth Africa. Prt Elizabeth was established in 1961, fllwed by Durban in 1963 and Jhannesburg in 1964. The next DREOSTI MEMORIAL LECTURE will be presented in 2011. Technical meetings take place n a mnthly basis in each f the Centres. Enrichment curses take place n an nging basis in all the Centres. Natinal cntrl and management f SAIRAC is vested in a Cuncil, headed by the President, wh is elected by the Members. Cuncil members include the Chairman f each centre, a Vice-President, immediate Past President and Treasurer. Secretarial duties are perfrmed by part-time secretaries and a natinal secretary.
