Quinta Bonita An Algarve Retreat Exploring the beautiful landscapes of southern Portugal T his holiday is based in the beautifully scenic Western Algarve. With its rocky coves and cliff faces, and dark blue coastline it is a great place for a relaxing escape. We will be staying in a beautifully converted farmhouse up in the hills, in a small village called Matos Morenos, which is located only a few minutes drive from Lagos. From this tranquil and luxurious location we will be able to visit the most scenic and authentic parts of the western Algarve. From the whitewashed villas with their terracotta roofs and cobbled streets of Lagos, to the colourful fishing boats still used to catch fresh sea bass and octopus in Salema, we will truly experience the Algarvian way of living. We will explore wonderful coastal and hilltop villages which have retained their authentic charm from times gone by and sample local food and wine, completely immersing ourselves into the culture. As well as visiting the popular areas we will go off the beaten track which will allow us to get the best views! Cape St Vincent Proposed Daily Itinerary O ur itinerary is expected to follow the daily schedule outlined below but please bear in mind that the order of the days may be amended, or walks/boat trips substituted, due to weather conditions or changes beyond our control. Day 1 On arrival at Faro airport we travel by coach to the Quinta Bonita (1 hour), located in the tranquil countryside above Lagos. You will have time to relax and enjoy the grounds of the hotel before enjoying dinner at our hotel and learning what you will discover over the coming week. Day 2 Today we visit Lagos. This is one of the Algarve s most historic and picturesque towns. We will have time to explore seeing the 14 th century castle walls, narrow, cobbled streets, pottery shops and numerous pavement cafes from which to watch the world go by. Lagos has a relaxed atmosphere, making it one of the most appealing locations in the Algarve. After lunch we will head for the port and join a two hour boat trip along the coast. We sail from Lagos to Ponte da Piedade, where we anchor. Changing to a smaller boat, we will be shown the famous caves and rock formations. fantastic coastal views from the cliff tops and typical Portuguese villages. Day 3 We take a morning cliff-top stroll between the fishing villages of Luz and Burgau, with time to explore at either end. Luz is a wonderful little village, located on the coastline at the foot of the cliffs. Burgau is a former fishing village which still displays signs of its former life. With its cobbled main street sweeping through the village it has retained its charm. Our walk will allow us to see 01707 386700 Lagos

Day 4 From the Quinta Bonita we make the short drive to the fishing village of Alvor. Traditionally Portuguese in appearance with its white washed buildings, narrow cobbled streets and fishing boats bobbing gently in the sea, we ll enjoy a sea front walk, have time to visit the town and follow the boardwalks through gentle scenery of sand dunes, ancient salt pans, traditional farmland and thriving freshwater marshes. In the afternoon there will be the chance to visit a vineyard and taste some of the local wines. Day 5 Today is a free day allowing time to explore the surrounding area, have a round of golf or simply relax in the tranquil grounds of the Quinta Bonita. Your Adagio Specialist will be more than happy to advise you of the different options. This evening we stroll to a nearby winery for dinner. Day 6 Today we will drive to the lighthouse at Cape St Vincent, the most south-westerly point of Europe. We will have time to enjoy a nice leisurely walk between the two beaches. Today we have included a delicious fish lunch at one of the local restaurants, so you can relax with a glass of wine in hand sampling the local fresh fish. We will return to the Quinta Bonita just in time for our daily afternoon tea, with time to relax until the evening when we can enjoy a cheese and wine tasting session given by our hosts. Lagos L agos is a wonderful town steeped in history, dating as far back as 2000 BC. Situated in the western Algarve it enjoys glorious weather for most of the year. It offers its visitor a varied number of restaurants, cafes and traditional craft shops. Our accommodation, Quinta Bonita, is a short drive or 20 minute walk away. Lagos has a bank, post office and several cash points. It offers many restaurants and bars. On one or two nights we will visit Lagos for dinner. Quinta Bonita Matos Morenos, Quatro Estradas, 8600-115, Lagos, Portugal +351 282 762135 /info@boutiquehotelalgarve.com / www.boutiquehotelalgarve.com T he family run Quinta Bonita is the oldest property in Matos Morenos, located a 10 minute drive away from Lagos, and allows easy access to all the best parts of the western Algarve. Nestled high on the hilltops near the coast, it offers splendid views of the ocean in the middle distance. With only eight rooms it will feel like we have the whole place to ourselves. The rooms are beautifully and individually decorated, giving your holiday a feeling of luxury, but in a relaxed and informal environment. When not out exploring the delights that the Western Algarve has to offer, you can take a walk and relax in the surroundings of the 10,000sqm gardens, take a dip in the all year heated swimming pool or arrange a round of golf. Exploring the Grottos on the Boat Day 7 On our final full day in the western Algarve we will renew our acquaintance with Burgau, and walk along the coast to Salema. Salema is one of the most popular areas in the western Algarve, situated within the Costa Vincentina Natural Park. It has preserved its traditions with its fleet of brightly coloured fishing boats. Enjoy the golden sands of the beach and even take a dip. You may want to work up an appetite for tonight s farewell BBQ! Day 8 Feeling revitalized and full of vigour we must leave our little piece of paradise. We will take a coach transfer back to Faro airport in time to get our flight back to the UK until next time! To fully enjoy the walking on this holiday you should be able to walk along uneven undulating paths at about 1 ½ to 2 miles per hour for distances of between 2 ½ and 4 ½ miles with walks lasting up to 3-4 hours. Some days will be devoted largely to sightseeing, where you can typically walk as much or as little as you wish. Please note that on some of the walks there can be some sections involving steep steps and the need to be sure footed. The Quinta Bonita Your hosts for the week, Fraser and Chantelle are warm and welcoming and will be dedicated to making your stay as relaxing and pleasurable as possible. We will enjoy a wonderful continental buffet breakfast at the hotel, taken on the terrace when the weather is good. All produce is locally sourced where possible; what better way can you start your day then juice straight from the orchard, fresh bread from the village bakery and newly laid eggs from the gardener s farm? Four dinners will be taken in specially selected local restaurants, including a local winery close to the hotel, and two dinners will be 01707 386700

taken at the Quinta Bonita, including a farewell BBQ on our final evening. On one day we include a delicious lunch in a fish restaurant instead of dinner, therefore in the afternoon we will enjoy wine and cheese tasting at the Quinta Bonita. If you are still a bit peckish, the staff at the Quinta Bonita will be more than happy to make you a snack, or why not catch a taxi into town for some local delicacies? Local Sightseeing I n keeping with the spirit of Adagio we have designed our holiday to include time to explore hilltop villages, vineyards, golden sandy beaches and coastal grottos. In addition there are several other worthwhile places to visit which may be interesting options for the free afternoon. Amongst these are: Bedroom at the Quinta Bonita A trip to Silves. With its medieval castle, it was once the Moorish capital of the Algarve. A market town at the heart of the citrus growing area, it remains proud of its Moorish heritage. Lagos. Enjoy another opportunity to stroll around this wonderful coastal town. Golf. There are two pristine golf courses in the vicinity of Lagos and the Quinta Bonita will be more than happy to assist you with all your golfing requirements. IMPORTANT: as our holidays take place in peak season for golf, it is highly recommended that you contact the Quinta Bonita well in advance to pre-book, this can be done through a telephone call or email. Also included is afternoon tea with cake daily just what you need after a wonderful day strolling along the coast or hilltop village. Or why not simply enjoy a drink from the hotel s honesty bar and relax on the terrace with a good book. Six dinners, one lunch, afternoon tea daily and a wine and cheese tasting afternoon is included in the price of the holiday other lunches are at clients own expense and these normally can be taken as a picnic or in a local café or restaurant.
