FRANCE PARIS ET LA PROVENCE April 13-21, 2018 9 DAYS / 7 NIGHTS (Dates of travel to be confirmed upon flight booking)
DAY 1: DEPART (Friday) Fly overnight to Paris. DAY 2: PARIS (Saturday) Bienvenue en France! On arrival in Paris, your French Forum Tour Manager will greet you at the airport and remain with you throughout your tour. Transfer by private motor coach to your hotel and drop off your bags. This afternoon, stroll down the most famous avenue of the capital, the Champs-Elysées. Climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe to admire the view. Then, head to Les Invalides and visit the dome church and the emperor Napoleon s tomb. Have dinner at a local restaurant. After dinner, walk through the Trocadéro and view la Ville Lumière from the third floor of the Eiffel Tower. Overnight in Paris. DAY 3: PARIS (Sunday) This morning, after breakfast at your hotel, you will discover the Musée du Louvre. Its famous collection of art and antiquities includes the Mona Lisa. Then, visit a local boulangerie. The tour offers a great and rare opportunity to step into the kitchen of a typical Parisian boulangerie and see how the famous French baguettes are made! Later, visit the gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. Climb the Towers to experience the view as well as a glimpse of the famous gargoyles. Free time for lunch. Your tour manager will then take you to the Latin Quarter. Stop by the Sorbonne University, the Pantheon and the Luxembourg gardens. Have diner in the lively Latin Quarter before returning to your hotel. Overnight in Paris. DAY 4: PARIS (Monday) Breakfast at your hotel. Explore the Marais Quarter with your tour manager. The neighbourhood, which takes its name from the marshes on which it was originally built, has long been the home of Parisian aristocrats. Enter the house of Victor Hugo. He wrote some of his major works there: Marie Tudor, Ruy Blas, Les Burgraves, Les Chants du crépuscule, Les Voix intérieures, a large part of Les Misérables... Have some free time for lunch and shopping at the Halles! This afternoon, board a glass-topped Bateau Mouche and enjoy a cruise to explore Paris from its best avenue: the Seine River. Later in the day, you will head up to the highest point in Paris, Montmartre (known locally as La Butte). Climb the steps to reach the Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre s hilltop church and most famous landmark. Have dinner in a typical Brasserie Parisienne.
Overnight in Paris. DAY 5: PARIS AVIGNON (Tuesday) After breakfast at your hotel, board the High-Speed TGV Train to Avignon. Transfer to your hotel and drop off your bags. Meet your local guide for a guided visit of Avignon. Explore the cafélined Place de l Horloge, the site of the city s imposing Hôtel de Ville and clock tower, and the Opéra. Around the square, on rues de Mons, Molière and Corneille, famous faces appear in windows painted on the buildings. Discover the Pope s Palace, with its massive stone vaults, battlements and sluices for pouring hot oil on attackers. Your guide will also bring you on the Pont d Avignon, famous for the song of the same name. Do you know it? Have dinner with your group at a local restaurant. Overnight in Avignon. DAY 6: AVIGNON PONT-DU-GARD MOULIN CASTELAS AIX EN PROVENCE (Wednesday) Breakfast at your hotel. Board your private motor coach and drive further south. En route, see the Pont du Gard, a roman aqueduct built in the middle of the 1st Century A.D. Next, embark on a canoeing adventure by the Pont du Gard, explore the site and then have a refreshing swim in the river. Basic techniques of paddling, navigation and security will be explained before you begin Then, drive to le Moulin Castelas, an olive oil farm located in a valley to learn how olives become oil. Continue to Aix-en-Provence for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 7: LES BAUX DE PROVENCE SALON DE PROVENCE (Thursday) Breakfast at your hotel. Board your private motor coach direction to the picturesque Provençal town of Les Baux-de-Provence. En route, stop at Salon de Provence. Enter the Savonnerie Marius Fabre. From the turn of the 20th century until the 1950s, soap was a buoyant business thanks to Salon s abundance of olive oil and the exotic palm and copra oils that arrived in nearby Marseille from the French colonies. Run by three generations of the same family, the Savonnerie Marius Fabre, dating from 1900, paints a vivid portrait of the industry with its small museum. Continue to les Baux-de-Provence and visit the Château des Baux, fortified castle built during the 10th century. Admire the view of the Val d Enfer (Valley of Hell) and even glimpse the Mediterranean Sea in the distance Return to Aix-en-Provence for dinner and night accommodation.
DAY 8: AIX-EN-PROVENCE CASSIS (Friday) After breakfast at your hotel, follow your Tour Manager on a Paul Cezanne Walking Tour: Sur les pas de Cézanne. Enter the painting studio of the post-impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, native of Aix en Provence. Then, head to the local market and enjoy all colors and smells of the Mediterranean food! After some free time for lunch, sit back in your private motor coach, relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. Upon arrival in Cassis, hop on a boat ride and explore the spectacular Calanques, a geologic formation in the form of a deep valley. Relax on the beach or discover the lovely coast town of Cassis. Return to Aix-en-Provence for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 9: RETURN (Saturday) Transfer to the Marseille-Provence airport for your return flight home. ENROLLMENT INSTRUCTIONS Enrolling for this trip is as easy as going to https://enrollment.forumlanguageexperience.com/tour/beverly-hs-2018/ The enrollment process will take you about 10-15 minutes. During, you will be asked to provide contact information, a valid passport number, and method of payment. If you do not have a passport yet, don t worry you will still be able to enroll. However, we advise you to apply for your passport as soon you finish enrolling for your trip. Forum Language Experience has purchased the Student Protection Plan from Travel Insured International on behalf of all participants. If you would like to purchase the optional Cancel For Any Reason benefit, you must choose it at the time of enrollment, and the additional fee MUST be included with your first trip deposit.
