THE PREZ SEZ BY MARK SCHIEFF Great weather and ten cars at the October mee ng. It's elec on me and all the current elected officers have expressed their interest to run again for the 2015 term. Since any member in good standing can volunteer to run or be nominated for office, the elec on commi ee chairman, Tony Gardner asked for any members who would like to be on the ballot and no one spoke up. He then asked if there were any nomina ons from the floor and there were none. Ballots will be sent with next month s newsle er which allows for write-in candidates. Don't forget to pay your 2015 dues to Kathy Williams BY NOVEMBER 30th along with $30.00 per person for the Holiday Party. Dinner for members received a er November 30th will cost $40.00 per person (limit 2) and cost for guests will be $50.00. The club will be subsiding the actual cost of about $60.00 per person cost resul ng in about a $2,000 contribu- on! The Annual Holiday Dinner will be on Saturday December 6th at the Italian American Club on East Sahara. The buffet will include white pasta, red pasta, meatballs, chicken Marsala, filet of sole, roasted potatoes, warm bean & le uce salad, coffee, tea & so drinks. Beer will be served for $4.00 a glass and wine will be served at $6.00 a glass. TECHNICAL BY JIM MILLER One last me on gas and oils and I will change my soap box to another subject. Flat tappet engines need a zinc oil addi ve in todays oils. That's the last on oils, now on to gasoline for an que engines. Original rubber fuel lines and gaskets are subject to damage from alcohol in E-10 gasoline. They need to be replaced with modern barrier hoses. ("BARRICADE" BY GATES) One of the proper es of modern E-10 gasoline is that it acts like a strong cleaning solvent. The cleaning effect of the new alcohol gasoline will loosen varnish, dirt, and corrosion throughout the en re fuel system including the inside of the gas tank. Any varnish, sediment, rust, or dirt will find its way into your carburetor. Stuff that has been undisturbed for forty years will break loose and cause you grief. Keep your sediment bowl and screen clean. Modern alcohol gasoline will also a ract moisture from the atmosphere, and through places like gas cap vents, much like brake fluid does. Water is heavier than the gasoline so as the water molecules are collected by the alcohol in the gasoline, the alcohol/water will separate from the gasoline and will end up in the bo om of the fuel tank. This phase separa on of gasoline that occurs in your gas tank is also happening in the underground storage tanks. The gasoline pickup valves are at the bo om of the tanks. If this gasoline is not sold within 30 days or less the chances are that the gasoline is increasing the concentra on of alcohol/water. Gasoline containing up to 30% alcohol is not uncommon in loca ons where the fuel inventory is more than 45 days old. Some of us have had vapor lock problems that seem to come and go, just maybe you got a tank full of old higher concentra on of alcohol laced fuel and not a problem with your car...keep in mind the older the gas and lower the fuel level in the underground tank the higher the alcohol concentra on. Marvel mystery oil helps the vapor lock problem as does insula ng the fuel line to the carburetor. One more par al solu on is to buy from busy high volume sta ons. More if you want it. Some informa on taken with permission from Randy Rundle's book "The Official Guide to Modern Gasoline & Oil for An que Vehicles". Randy's book can be ordered on line at www.fi haveinternetgarage.com or by calling 785-632- 3450. 3
