The challenges we face, to varying degrees across Europe, range from soaring unemployment to stagnant growth, from a stubbornly intractable sovereign debt crisis to fears over the very future of the euro. In facing up to the crisis, however, we at Grimaldi continue to trust in the vision that has brought us this far, and that sees us generating healthy returns even in a period of austerity. It is, fundamentally, a question of self-belief. Of course, this does not mean that we are standing still. Rather, we are leveraging our strengths to bring in fresh revenues, maintain margins and bolster the bottom line. This issue of Grimaldi News demonstrates this approach in action. In the pages that follow, we showcase a number of ways in which we have sought to make our assets work harder, to forge synergies where we can, and to exploit in a more effective way hardwon competitive advantages in key markets. Our new Russia connection illustrates the point perfectly. Starting in March, we will launch a new fortnightly ro-ro and container service between the Swedish port of Wallhamn, wholly-owned by our Group, and Ust-Luga, a Russian port about 150km south of St Petersburg. From a Grimaldi point of view, the new service allows us to build on our existing strength in the Baltic and our expanding presence in the Russian market, where St Petersburg is developing into a significant gateway. The Wallhamn-Ust-Luga service will be run by Finnlines but it will also connect via the Swedish port into the far-flung Grimaldi network of 120 ports across Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa and the Americas. What is more, we are confident enough of the service s success that we will deploy one of Finnlines state-of-the-art new ro/ro ships built at the Jinling yard in China, with a service speed of 21 knots and capacity for 3,200 lm of rolling cargo and 900 cars. In short, the new service will build on our existing assets and strengths to provide our clients, and our Group, with the kind of competitive advantage critical in these difficult times. In the pages that follow, you will also find other examples of the company s efforts to develop new and innovative transport solutions to that same end. In the Mediterranean, we recently launched a new Motorway of the Sea between Salerno and Catania, added Genoa to the Valencia-Livorno service and deployed a new vessel between Salerno, Cagliari and Valencia that allows for accompanied trucks where previously they had only travelled unaccompanied. On the Atlantic, meanwhile, we have just added Abidjan to the ports served by our MEX service between the Mediterranean and West Africa. To supplement our activities on the water, we have also beefed up our shoreside services, opening new offices in Milan, Livorno and Genoa. And we are working constantly to make our terminals more efficient. Antwerp, which celebrates its tenth anniversary this year, offers a great example on this score. Wallhamn has just received an important endorsement of its quality, with its certification as Authorised Economic Operator, and we have high hopes for the future of the terminal we are planning to build in the port of Barcelona.

The new Genoa-Valencia line, dedicated to the transport of rolling freight, has a three-times-a-week frequency: departures from Genoa are every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 5 a.m., while departures from Valencia are every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday at 8 p.m. This route is served by two modern ro/ro vessels: the Eurocargo Valencia and Eurocargo Salerno, each able to transport 1,200 trailers/trucks per week both ways, including 72 drivers and 3,000 cars. Furthermore, as from the 4 th of December the current maritime line linking Salerno with Cagliari (Sardinia) and Valencia, dedicated to the transport of freight, was extended to also serve passengers. To serve this new line, with a twice-aweek frequency the company has deployed the ro/pax vessel Sorrento. She is able to transport more than 800 passengers, 170 cars together with 2,250 linear metres of rolling freight. With a length of 186 metres, a gross tonnage of 26,000 tonnes and a speed of 23 knots, this modern ferry has 93 cabins, between internal, external and suitesand is equipped with a self service restaurant and bar, a cafeteria, a hall club Vesuvio, a video game and slot machine area, shops and a solarium with sunbeds and bar. With the addition of passengers to this line, the Group aims to offer Southern Italy and Sardinia users the possibility to travel in a comfortable and economically convenient way to Valencia, Southern Spain, as well as Madrid (which is only 350 km from the port of Valencia). The beneficiaries of these new maritime links to Valencia will be companies that operate beyond the boundaries of Italy and Northern Europe - states Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Group. They will now have a direct, efficient and regular connection with Valencia, the main gateway to and from south-central Spain and Portugal concludes Mr Grimaldi. New Salerno- Catania ro/pax service launched In another move to upgrade its maritime network in the Western Mediterranean, the Grimaldi Group has launched the new Motorway of the Sea linking Salerno with Catania and Malta, starting from 17th January. The new line dedicated to both rolling cargo and passengers links three times a week Salerno to Catania and weekly to Malta. The unit deployed is the m/vessel Translubeca which has a length of 159 metres, a width of 25.30 metres and a gross tonnage of 24,700 tonnes. She is able to transport 1,900 linear metres of trailers, trucks, containers, cars, vans and any other type of rolling cargo. Furthermore, she is equipped with 34 cabins able to host about 100 passengers, offering a comfortable journey thanks to her wide external cabins, equipped with satellite TV and air conditioning, a self-service restaurant and a Drivers Lounge. This new regular line further increases the services offered by the Group between Salerno and Sicily, completing the network between Northern and Southern Italy through the links between Genoa, Livorno and Civitavecchia to Sicily (both Catania and Palermo): the aim is not only to improve the mobility of Sicilian passengers, but also to offer additional transport opportunities to shippers and truckers who move freight between the Italian Peninsula and Sicily, offering them a valid alternative to the very congested Salerno-Reggio Calabria highway. Baltic route New connection to Russia to be launched A new Wallhamn-Ust-Luga service due to strengthen the Group s presence in the Baltic Cork Bristol Portbury Southampton A new maritime connection to Russia is due to be launched by the Grimaldi Group through the combination of Grimaldi Lines and Finnlines maritime services. As from March, a new Finnlines ro/ro and container service will be introduced linking the Swedish port of Wallhamn to the Russian port of Ust-Luga (about 150 km south of St Petersburg). The frequency of the new service will be fortnightly and the vessel deployed by Finnlines will be one of the units built at the Chinese shipyards of Jinling. These 1A class ro/ro ships are 187 metres long, 26.5 metres wide, have a service speed of 21 knots and can transport 3,200 linear metres (equivalent to over 200 trailers) of rolling cargo as well as 900 cars. Their hull design and machinery was carefully designed in order to optimise fuel consumption and maximise the flexibility of loading operations. The car terminal that will be called by Finnlines in Ust-Luga is YUG-2 (South-2). It has a 925-metre quay length, a draft up to 12.8 metres, is equipped with two ro/ro berths for stern ramp vessels and has a direct connection with the Russian road and rail network. The total surface of the terminal is 50 hectares, with dedicated paved space for 12,200 cars. YUG-2 has the excise customs office directly in the terminal, which is a big advantage for the port and particularly for the shippers/receivers of goods handled. Finnlines agent in St. Petersburg, Trans-Log Ltd, will also be taking care of the Group s agency matters in Ust-Luga. Today deliveries from the port to the final destinations in Russia are mainly made by road. There is, however, also the possibility to deliver cargo by rail, mainly to destinations located far away (such as Ekaterinburg and even further to Siberia). This is a significant advantage offered by Ust-Luga compared to other neighbouring ports. Thanks to the forthcoming new regular maritime link, the Grimaldi Group will be able to offer an additional connection between Russia and the whole network of ports served by the Group. In fact, thanks to the weekly frequency of the Euro-Med Service, any type of rolling unit (cars, vans, trucks, etc.) and con- Bilbao Setubal Tangier The port of Wallhamn 4 GNE WS

Located 55 km north of Gothenburg, the port of Wallhamn is wholly owned by the Grimaldi Group. It has a 712-metre long quay and a storage area of about 500,000 square metres for rolling units, containers and general cargo. It is the only privately owned port in Sweden. Apart from the Euro-Med Service linking North Europe to the Mediterranean, Wallhamn is also called by other operators who have direct services to the Far East. The new Wallhamn-Ust-Luga service will be added to the other two services that Finnlines already offers: a biweekly ro/ ro and passenger service between Luebeck (Germany) and St Petersburg and a weekly ro/ro service between Bilbao, Antwerp, Hull and St Petersburg. Wallhamn AB certified as Authorised Economic Operator Wallhamn AB, Sweden s largest private harbour wholly-owned by the Grimaldi Group and located on the country s west coast, has been certified as Authorised Economic Operator (AEO-F). AEO-F is the joint certificate of Customs simplifications and Security and safety and serves as a mark of good quality and security. Being certified means, among others, lower risk that the flow of goods into and out of the EU will be stopped for examination, reduced number of data to be provided for the summary declarations and easier access to authorizations and permits. Wallhamn AB operates terminal and stevedoring activities, PDI-work shop and up fitting of commercial vehicles. The terminal and stevedore activities are focused on the handling of rolling units (cars, vans, trucks, etc.), containers and unitised general cargo. Approximately 165,000 cars passed the quay in 2011. The port, featuring a 712-metre long berth and a storage area (including warehouses) of 500,000 square metres, is called by the Grimaldi Lines weekly Euromed Service, linking Northern Europe with the Mediterranean area. Furthermore, it is connected by other operators with the Far East with weekly departures. Wallhamn AB is the municipality of Tjörn s largest private employer with about 110 permanent employees and 150 extra employees equivalent to 35 full-time positions. GNE WS 5

The XV Euro-Med Convention hosted on the island of Capri The Group s annual venue gathered over 400 delegates to discuss issues related to Short Sea Shipping From the 29th of September to the 2 nd of October, the 15 th Euro-Med Convention From Land to Sea, organised by the Grimaldi Group, took place at the Grand Hotel Quisisana, on the island of Capri. The event was attended by more than 400 delegates, among which were representatives from the Italian and European institutions, port authorities, logistics and transport operators, shipping industry professionals, representatives of the Italian and European press, as well as the Group s branches and agents in North Europe and the Mediterranean. With a welcoming speech, Gianluca Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Group, opened the convention: keynote speakers were Fotis Karamitsos, Director of European Commission s DG Move, Directorate for Logistics, Maritime & Land Transport; Tommaso Affinita, CEO of RAM (Rete Autostrade Mediterranee); Bartolomeo Giachino, Italian Undersecretary of State for Infrastructure and Transport; Rosa Puig Vidal, Commercial Director of the Barcelona Port Authority, Emanuele Grimaldi, Managing Director of the Grimaldi Group. Emanuele Grimaldi started his speech by analysing the current crisis and the various ways to face it. Xxxxxxxxxxx positive results and the expectations are to continue being profitable in 2011 too. With regards to the Group s subsidiaries Finnlines and Minoan Lines, Mr Grimaldi confirmed they are also expecting better results this year, while ACL has improved its performance. Mr Grimaldi confirmed the newbuilding programme of the Group which aims to modernise its fleet, focusing on maximum flexibility combined with minimum fuel consumption. In particular, the Group will invest in ACL s fleet by ordering five new con-ro units to replace the existing giant vessels, which will be deployed in 2013/2014 and will strengthen ACL s comparative advantage in the market thanks to their higher loading capacity. Mr Grimaldi also announced the Group s latest news: the first being the award of a multi-year concession on the new freight and passenger terminal Muelle Costa in the port of Barcelona, which will handle Grimaldi ships whose combined value is of almost 500 million. Moreover, the Group has strengthened its presence in Northern Italy, especially in Milan with the opening of a new office. Referring to the shipping sector, Emanuele Grimaldi affirmed that scrapping over-aged ships would be the most effective way to both cut pollution and reduce excess fleet capacity; By mandating the scrapping of older ships, policymakers could spur this process along he stated rewarding the more efficient and environmentally conscious operators and forcing less responsible shipowners to do the right thing with the evident benefits for Europe as a whole. During the works, Rosa Puig presented the port of Barcelona, and the services offered to short sea shipping such as reliability, high quality and security. Then Grimaldi UK best Euro-Med Agent On the occasion of the Euro-Med Convention, Grimaldi UK Agencies was awarded Best Agent of the Year for 2011. Based in London, Grimaldi UK Agencies was awarded for its contribution to the development of the Group s trade between the UK, North Europe and the Mediterranean, thanks to very efficient commercial work and a customer-oriented organisation. The award was presented by Costantino Baldissara, Commercial & Logistics Director of the Group, to Roy Postlethwaite, Managing Director of Grimaldi UK Agencies. the discussion was focused on the Italian Ecobonus, which in the period from 2007 to 2009 guaranteed 170 million of incentives to trucking companies. An incentive system from which Mr Affinita underlined, we had to start in order to introduce the European Ecobonus. He concluded that the logistics system requires a massive effort in terms of planning, innovation, institutional and operational processes, and strategic investments. The Italian Undersecretary of State for Infrastucture and Transport Mr Giachino underlined the strong belief of the Italian Government in the Motorways of the Sea concept, wishing that also for 2011 the Ecobonus would be confirmed. This measure he stated is not a cost for the State but a resource which allows a saving four times higher than the cost of transport by road. Mr Karamitsos outlined the main policy answers to the challenges faced by the transport sector in Europe and worldwide. He stated that the aim of the European Commission is to improve and maintain quality-based, customeroriented and competitive cargo transport chains, while efficient logistics and supply chain management needs to ensure on-time progress of goods through the chain as well as end-to-end traceability, security and safety, with lower environmental impact. He concluded by confirming the conviction of the Commission that Europe remains one of the big global players in logistics and maritime transport. The Convention ended with a debate moderated by Alfons Guinier, Secretary General of ECSA (European Community Shipowners Associations) with the participation of Eddy Bruyninckx, CEO of the Antwerp Port Authority, Andrea Annunziata, President of the Salerno Port Authority, Recai Isiktas, Logistics Manager of Ford Otosan, Johan Roos, Executive Director of Interferry European Office, Rolf Baumann, Manager Vehicle Planning and Intercontinental of General Motors, Mike Sturgeon, Executive Director of ECG, together with Fotis Karamitsos, Tommaso Affinita and Emanuele Grimaldi. Achievements A recognition of excellence and quality For the 11th year in a row the Group gets the Ford Q1 certification Ford Motor Company granted the Q1 certification to the Grimaldi Group, a recognition of excellence and quality. Grimaldi, the first shipping company to receive this certification, was awarded for the first time back in 1999. To gain this important recognition, the Detroit-based automotive giant requires many high quality standards from its suppliers, many of which are determined by the companies QOS (Quality Operating System): this tool includes many parameters and systems involving the entire team. Ford then divides the activities of its suppliers into four modules referred to as quality, delivery, engineering and commercial, auditing them all to verify if their set working procedures are in accordance with the levels of its demand. The Group is honoured to receive this recognition for the 11 th time in a row stated Capt. Fusco, Quality and Damage Prevention Manager. It shows our commitment to achieve and maintain excellence, but it also demonstrates our policy of continuous improvement in offering top quality services to our clients he concluded. The 25 th Anniversary of the Lisbon-Luanda link On the 11 th of November 2011 the Group celebrated the 25 th anniversary of the first call at Lisbon of vessels with destination the Angolan port The Grimaldi presence in Portugal dates back to the 50s when the Group began calling Lisbon in order to embark passengers, mainly migrants, which had to reach Central America. Since that time, connections with Portugal have always been maintained and the traffic of vehicles began on the 22 nd of September of 1977 with the first call at Lisbon of the car carrier vessel Dora Baltea. A yearly production of 10,000 units was entrusted to Grimaldi by General Motors, a significant quantity for that time. From then on, Grimaldi quickly became the reference in Portugal for the transport of rolling cargo by sea: in 1986, the Group started linking Lisbon to West Africa, with a first calling at the Portuguese capital of the vessel Seki Rollete on the 11th of November of that year, loading containers and rolling cargo. Services have gradually expanded on the West Africa route with over 30 vessels, the most modern and sophisticated on the trade, including the Angola, the emblematic vessel on the Southern Express Service. Today, Grimaldi Lines regularly calls Lisbon and Leixões for the transport of rolling freight and containers with the North Europe/West Africa Southern Express Service, with both Portuguese ports participating with a significant share of volume on this route. Furthermore, with transhipment at different Grimaldi hub terminals, Lisbon and Leixões are also able to be active on other Grimaldi routes such as the North Europe/South America Line, the North Europe/West Africa Northern Express Service, the North Europe/West Africa Central Express Service, the Eurocargo Service and ACL. To underline the success of these maritime links, Grimaldi Portugal was awarded in 2011, for the third consecutive year as Best line of the year Portugal-Africa. The award, sponsored by the Portuguese newspaper Transportes & Negocios selected Grimaldi for the success of the Southern Express Service. The award was presented during a ceremony held at the end of November in Leixoes to Mr Mario Pinto, the local commercial manager of the Group. GNE WS 11

Mediterranean Trades Grimaldi in partnership with DKV The Group and the German company sign an agreement able to assure wide advantages to logistics and transport companies An important cooperation agreement was recently signed between the Group with DKV EU- ROSERVICE, the leading service provider within the European road transport sector with the aim to offer to the customers of both companies better services and facilitations within the International road transport network. Based in Germany, DKV offers many on the- road services to over 89,000 customers, available in 42 European countries and in North Africa. The Grimaldi Group aims at offering advantages to its International clientele thanks to special payment solutions offered by the useful DKV Card which, among others, allows to buy fuel (without paying cash) from different brands, to pay european tolls (also the UK France Tunnel) to receive road assistance solutions and to get VAT refund. Thanks to the agreement, drivers who wish to embark from mainland Italy to Sicily, Sardinia, Spain and viceversa can pay the maritime freight easily and safely, through the acceptance of the DKV card at the port ticket offices, without any need of cash. A single payment may cover also a shipment which foresees two crossings, as in the case of a truck shipped from Barcelona or Valencia to Sicily, Tunisia or Malta. In the last few months Grimaldi and DKV launched through their channels several co-marketing campaigns to better promote the services offered by each company to their respective clientele. Cars racing at the Touareg and Cyprus Rallies shipped by Grimaldi The Grimaldi Group was once again chosen to ship the rally cars participating to two international races: the famous Touareg Rally (Senegal) and the Cyprus Rally. On the 24 th of October 36 Citroën 2 CV's "Diane" and "Mehari" were loaded on board the m/vessel Nigeria from Antwerp to Dakar (Senegal), deployed on the North Europe/West Africa Central Express Service. Participants of the Touareg Rally, who are not professionals but ordinary people with passion for adventure and race, started from Dakar their adventurous 3,333-km voyage through five desert countries, crossing Black Africa and arriving in Benin. Cars were then shipped back from Cotonou to Antwerp, where they arrived on the 31 st of December, on board the m/ vessel Atlantico. In another part of the globe, from the 3 to the 5 of November the Cyprus Rally 2011 was held in this Eastern Mediterranean island, the last round of the IRC- International Rally Challenge - Circuit. All racing cars participating at the race, among which Team Skoda IT, Skoda UK, world champion last year, Kronos Racing, Jukamotora and Yokohama, were shipped on the 22 nd of October on board the m/vessel Euroferry Malta, from Venice to the port of Limassol. At the end of the race all cars were embarked back to Venice, using again Grimaldi s Adriatic Service. 12 GNE WS
