MINARETS & MOUNTAINS Marrakech is a city of bustling souks, towering minarets, ochre ramparts and colourful spice markets. With quiet gardens, orange blossom lined boulevards and stunning Atlas Mountain views, you have a destination that enriches all the senses. Our guided sightseeing takes us to the well known Djemaa el Fna square through the busy derbs of the Medina into the souk where you'll see spices, colourful fabrics and blacksmiths at work. You'll even have the opportunity for some haggling with the locals! The Koutoubia, a symbol of the city, stands tall across the roof tops, the museums showcase ancient art, and the tranquil gardens are a welcome rest from the city. Out of Marrakech our walks lead us to quiet villages, local markets, to the coast at Essaouira and to a Berber house for mint tea. All this with the High Atlas Mountains as our backdrop adds to the atmosphere. Moroccan cuisine, influenced from Spain, Arabia and France, is an intriguing combination of aromas and colours, flavoured with subtle spices, dried fruits, nuts and olives. Visit an early morning market to buy ingredients to cook your own tagine lunch, enjoy local restaurants offering an infusion of French Moroccan dishes and visit the famous La Mamounia Hotel and gardens (once a firm favourite of Winston Churchill) for a pre dinner drink. WHATS INCLUDED Return flights from Gatwick to Marrakech (British Airways) Airport transfers B&B en suite accommodation Dinners taken at the hotel and local restaurants One restaurant lunch and one tagine cookery lesson with lunch All local transport costs. HOLIDAY GRADE This Grade 4 moderate holiday includes full and half day walks at a moderate pace over hilly terrain and is likely to include an element of sightseeing as well. Half day walking will probably include about 3 hours of walking, with full days having around 5 hours. Expect ascents and descents of up to about 600m. See the Walks & Excursions section for more information.

Proposed Itinerary Whilst every effort will be made to adhere to the outlined itinerary and advertised programme, local conditions can change due to weather or other unforeseen circumstances. This may mean that routes and timings need to be amended or the order of days may change, sometimes at short notice. Key to Meals: B - Breakfast, L - Lunch, D - Dinner. In flight meals, if appropriate, will be advised in your final travel documents Day: 1 - Marrakech (D) On arrival into Marrakech, we make the short transfer to the Hotel Palm Menara, our base for the next week. Depending on flight times, we may have an orientation walk or visit to the Jemaa El Fna square before dinner this evening. Day: 2 - Marrakech (B,L,D) To get your bearings in the old town, it is best to make your first visit with a local. Our guide takes us to visit the Saadien Tombs and Badii Palace, and to see the Koutoubia and explore the maze of streets and alleyways. We enjoy a traditional tagine lunch at the Riad Omar followed by an afternoon visit of the tranquil Marjorelle Gardens with drinks at the Garden s café. As the gardens are close to our hotel, you can spend as much time as you wish here before meeting for dinner. Day: 3 - Marrakech (B,D) We leave the city behind today and drive out to the Ourika Valley. With our guide, we ll enjoy a walk through Setti Fatma village, into the foothills and have a magnificent view for our picnic lunch. Returning to Marrakech, we ll stop at an Argan Oil cooperative, to learn about the process. Dinner this evening will be at the Table de Marche restaurant. Day: 4 - Marrakech (B,L,D) Our morning starts with a visit to the local market, with our guide, to buy fresh ingredients for our cookery lesson, where we will make our own tagine lunch. At a traditional riad, we have time to cook the dish, chat with our guide about life in Morocco, and enjoy a mint tea. Lunch is what we have made today. A real feast! This afternoon is free for you to explore on your own, perhaps with a visit to the Ensemble Artisanal for shopping, the Menara Gardens, or a coffee at one of the cafes overlooking the Jemaa El Fna square. Dinner is at our hotel this evening. Day: 5 - Marrakech (B,D) Today we head to the coast, to the relaxed town of Essaouira. We discover the Portuguese influenced town with our guide who will show us the sea walls, the citadel and also take us through the small souk. You ll have free time for lunch and exploring on your own. You might like a bit of beach time, so don t forget your swimming costume. Dinner will be at our hotel tonight. Day: 6 - Marrakech (B,D) We head into the famous Marrakech souk with our guide today for a short haggling lesson and time to shop. The souk is a maze of alleyways, each street dedicated to different crafts, jewellery, leather, shoes, bags and much more. The afternoon is free for you to explore on your own, maybe with a visit of Gueliz (new town), Koutubia Gardens or relax back at the hotel with a dip in the hotel s roof top pool. Visiting the famous La Mamounia hotel for pre-dinner drinks is followed by dinner at the local restaurant, La Table du Marche.

Day: 7 - Marrakech (B,D) A day out of the city takes us to the stunning Anima Gardens, colourful gardens with Mount Toubkal as its backdrop, before we continue to the village of Moulay Brahim. From here walk through the village and onto the Kik Plateau. We also plan to visit a Berber house for mint tea. Lunch will be a picnic today. Day: 8 - - (B) We ll depart for Marrakech airport for our flight to the UK. Walks & Excursions The majority of our walking during the week will be sightseeing in and around Marrackech and Essaouira. On our days out of the cities, in the Atlas foothills and Ourika Valley, our walks take us through small villages, along a mix of cobbled and wide sandy tracks, and over a wide plateau. We use transport to reach the hills, maybe stopping at a market on the way. All the walks are taken at a relaxed pace, and walking times rarely exceed 5 hours. Being in the hills and valleys, a few sections of the routes may be over rough or steep paths, but this is a small price to pay for the splendid views of the High Atlas mountains. An example of some of the walks we may include in our programme (dependent on weather conditions and the ability of the group) are as follows: Moulay Brahim & the Kik Plateau. From the village of Moulay Brahim take a fantastic "back in time" walk towards the Toukbal range with stunning views of the mountains and across the Plateau to villages in the distance. A real highlight! Ascent 225m / descent 280m; 7.5 miles; 4 hours. Setti Fatma. The area around the village of Setti Fatma, characterised by the river, is unusually scenic and relatively untouched. Following a wide track from the village towards the Col provides wonderful scenery and panoramic views for lunch. Note, the last portion to the Col involves a 1100ft ascent. Ascent 340m / descent 340m; 7.5 miles; 4-5 hours. Optional Excursions A range of local excursions and activities may be available to book in your destination through a local operator. We have no involvement in such activities or excursions which are not run, supervised or controlled in any way by us. Your contract will be with the local activity supplier and we accept no responsibility for their actions or omissions. Leaders Evening Briefing Each evening, your tour leader will discuss with you the programme for the following day. If you do not wish to join the organised group programme, please let the leader know. Local Transport Costs All local transport costs, in conjunction with the advertised activity programme, are included in the holiday cost. Personal Expenditure As you are probably already aware, tipping or "backsheesh" is a way of life in north Africa. In order to take the hassle out of tipping, we strongly recommend that you allow your leader to take care of making sure tips are given to hotel and restaurant staff & to local guides and drivers. This will be done using some funds provided by Ramblers Walking Holidays plus a contribution from you, which your leader will collect during the holiday. We suggest an amount of 2-3 per person per day, although this is discretional. You will need to consider drinks, any meals not included in the holiday price, possible non-included entrance fees, any optional excursions you may choose to participate in locally as well as any souvenirs or additional services such as laundry when budgeting for your holiday. Small Groups

Group Size Coming from all walks of life your fellow travelling companions will share your desire to discover great things and have a wonderful holiday. Enjoy their infectious enthusiasm, cameraderie and great dinner conversation. These small-group guided holidays usually have a group size of 10-20 people. Tour Leaders Your tour leader makes the world of difference to your holiday and ours are as passionate about discovering the world on foot as you are. They're resourceful, organised and widely travelled. They will handle all the local administration and other needs that might arise to ensure that you don't have to worry about planning your days and you can enjoy your holiday. Although leading group holidays, they won't forget that every group is made up of individuals. Each tour leader has their own individual style, talents and professional backgrounds and all are trained, qualified, experienced and dedicated to making your holiday as enjoyable, interesting and inspiring as possible. On most holidays of 7 nights and over, the tour leader will have one day's break a week, enabling you to have a 'free' day too!

Travel Details Travel between Marrakech airport and our hotel is by road, and takes approximately 20 minutes transfer time. During the holiday we will travel on foot, by coach and possibly 4x4 vehicle. For all those booking a flight or rail inclusive holiday, details of your travel arrangements and baggage allowance will be confirmed in your travel documents, sent to you approximately 10 days prior to departure. Personal Details Check When confirming your booking, we provide you with a Personal Details Check form. This is to ensure that we have an accurate record of the information you have provided us such as your passport details (if relevant), date of birth and any other important detail necessary for us to properly manage your holiday arrangements. When you receive this, please check the details, complete any missing or pertinent information and return it to us as soon as possible. Land Only If you are joining and leaving at your holiday overseas we assume, unless you advise us otherwise, that you will join and leave the holiday from your hotel. Although airport transfers are not included for those making their own independent travel arrangements, if you wish to join the group at the overseas airport, depending on your flight arrival time, you may be able to be included on the group's coach transfer. Please contact us at least 5 weeks before departure for more details. Please note that your flight must arrive within 30 minutes of the group flight to be able to join the group transfer. We also need your flight number, arrival time and departure point so that the group leader is able to meet up with you. If you wish to organise your own flights from a non- UK or provincial airport or travel by rail or car to your holiday destination, 'no-travel' reductions are often available. Please contact us for details. Before finalising any independent travel arrangements, please check with us first - especially if doing so 12 weeks or more before your intended date of travel. If you do intend to join your holiday locally please do tell us at least 14 weeks in advance. Passports and Visas Information for Morocco British passport holders do not need a visa to enter Morocco. Passports should be valid for the proposed duration of your stay in Morocco. Your passport does not need any additional period of validity beyond this. When entering Morocco you should ensure that your passport is stamped to avoid any difficulties on departure. It is necessary to complete an immigration form on both arrival and departure in Morocco for presentation to the Immigration Control officer. You may be given the form on your outbound flight or can find the forms in the Arrivals Hall at Marrakech airport. You may wish to take an additional blank form from immigration with you to complete for presentation at customs on your departure flight. You will also find the forms at the entrance to passport control on your return journey. General Passport & Visa Advice It is a good idea to carry photocopies of the personal details pages of your passport. Should you lose your passport, this may assist with the issue of replacement documents and your return to your home country. Passport and visa requirements can change at any time. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you inform yourself from a professionally qualified source on, and comply with, such requirements. General travel and destination advice for UK nationals is available from the Foreign and Commonwealth Office at www.fco.gov.uk/travel and at www.gov.uk/travelaware.

Accommodation Hotel Palm Menara Hotel Palm Menara N 2 Angle Avenue Yacoub El Mansour et Prince Moulay 4000 Marrakech Morocco Phone: +212 5244-48070 Web: www.palmmenarahotel.com The four star Hotel Palm Menara is located in the new city of Gueliz, a short stroll from the beautiful Majorelle Gardens. The hotel offers a roof top pool with wonderful views, a restaurant serving both Moroccan and international dishes, a lounge area, café and bar. All contemporary decorated rooms are en suite with toiletries and a hairdryer and the rooms offer air conditioning, telephone, TV, safety deposit box and wi-fi. While located in the new city, which makes the hotel convenient for western style cafes, restaurants and shops, it is very easy to reach the medina on foot or by public transport. Breakfasts and dinners are included in the holiday charge. Buffet breakfasts are taken at the hotel, while some dinners will be at the hotel and others will be at local restaurants. Tagines of chicken or lamb are the more traditional meal served and these are generally served without vegetables. Desserts generally aren't eaten in Morocco and meals usually consist of a starter and main course and finishing with something simple such as fresh fruit, yoghurt or cake. Vegetarians can be catered for on this holiday. Lunches are included on 2 days during the holiday, 1 lunch at a traditional restaurant and 1 lunch that we cook ourselves. On other days lunches are not included in the holiday cost but are easily bought locally.

Footwear Lightweight waterproof walking boots with a good moulded rubber sole (such as Vibram or similar) and a deep tread which provide ankle support are strongly recommended and may be essential for some walks. If you are an experienced walker with strong ankles a good quality pair of trail or approach shoes may well be suitable for some walks. We recommend that you either wear your walking boots or shoes or pack them and some waterproofs in your hand luggage as in the unlikely event that your hold luggage is delayed, you will still be able to participate in the holiday programme. Kit List Outdoor activities are always more enjoyable if you are prepared. The following list is a basic guideline that will enhance your experience. Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have. A basic kit list is likely to include: - Waterproof jacket (Goretex or similar) and trousers - Lightweight, quick drying trousers - Several polo shirts, T-shirts or specialist walking shirts - Fleece jacket - Comfortable walking socks - Warm hat and gloves (if appropriate) - Sun hat, sunglasses, lip salve and high SPF sun block - Swimwear (if appropriate) - Day sack (25 litre capacity) to comfortably carry the kit you'll take out on your days activity - Strong polythene bags to keep the contents of your daypack dry - Water bottle(s) - at least 1 litre capacity - Basic first aid kit (plasters, blister treatment, antiseptic etc) - Insect repellent - Waterproof bag or container and knife for your lunch - Walking/trekking poles (if applicable) Water-to-Go An alternative to bottled water from single-use sealed water bottles is filtered water from a refillable bottle containing its own water filter such as a Water-to-go bottle available from www.watertogo.eu. Just fill up from any water source and save the environment from disposable plastic bottles. We have negotiated an exclusive 15% discount with our partners Water-to-Go for you as a thank you for helping the environment. Please go to their website at www.watertogo.eu and enter the code RWH17 when ordering. In addition, Water-to-Go will match the discount with a donation to our charity, Heart & Sole, which will allow us to continue to make a difference in the countries you visit on our holidays. Trekking Poles Many of our clients find walking poles hugely beneficial when walking. They can both reduce stress on the knees and aid confidence. If you use them please make sure that you have the rubber tips covering the sharp metal points. There is increasing evidence that the bare metal tips are damaging footpaths both in the UK and abroad. Travel Document Checklist Documents and Information to take with you: - Your passport (make sure it's valid and it's yours) - Your travel tickets or e-ticket itinerary - Any visa or electronic travel authorisation (if required) - Holiday money - Credit or debit cards (and separate details of who to call if lost) - Car parking ticket and car park directions (if prebooked) - Coach or rail travel tickets (if prebooked) - Your holiday Booking Confirmation document - Your travel insurance details - Alternative form of identification (such as a driving licence) - Photocopy of the personal details pages of your passport - A valid European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) if relevant - Details of any medical condition or allergy your holiday leader should know about

Currency Currency in Morocco The currency in Morocco is the Moroccan Dirham. Please note that it is not possible to change Scottish or Irish banknotes in Morocco. If changing sterling banknotes at banks in Morocco these should be in pristine condition; banknotes which are torn, crumpled or have writing on them will not be accepted. Electricity Morocco The electricity supply in Morocco is 220V, although older buildings may be 110V or a mix of both. You will need a 2 round pin plug adaptor to use electrical appliances. Health Morocco No compulsory immunisations are required for visits to Morocco. You should be up to date with the usual immunisations recommended in the UK. Tetanus, Hepatitis A and Typhoid immunisations are recommended. You may also wish to consider immunisations against Hepatitis B and Rabies. Dengue fever exists in Morocco; please take normal precautions against mosquito bites. There is a risk of schistosomiasis, a parasitic infection (also known as bilharzia) that is transmitted to humans through contact with fresh water. Hygiene Advice for Travellers Don't forget to exercise caution with what you eat to avoid upset stomachs and stay away from unpeeled fruit and vegetables, salad and do not have ice in your drinks. Hot, fresh cooked food, where possible, is best. Hand washing facilities may be poor or unavailable when travelling, we therefore strongly advise you to carry antibacterial sanitizing gel and / or hand wipes at all times and use to them regularly. Drinking or cleaning teeth in unboiled water is not recommended. Bottled pure water is inexpensive and widely available in shops, at hotels, and on the coach. Make sure you only buy sealed bottles. Health requirements can change at any time. It is your own responsibility to ensure that you inform yourself from a professionally qualified source on, and comply with, such requirements at least 6 to 8 weeks before departure. Advice on vaccinations is available from your GP. Further Travel Health Advice For further advice please visit: - The National Travel Health Network and Centre (NaTHNaC) travel health website at www.travelhealthpro.org.uk - The NHS 'Fit for travel' website at www.fitfortravel.nhs.uk - The Foreign Office Office Travel Advice Website at www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice. - Or a local travel health clinic. You might wish to take a small bottle of antibacterial hand gel with you for times when you're unable to wash your hands. Language Language spoken in Morocco: Arabic and Berber. French and English are also widely spoken. Insurance Travel Insurance You must be adequately insured to join our holidays. We do not insist that you insure with us but we require that you are adequately insured for the nature of your holiday. You will be unable to participate in our local walking and other activity programmes without being able to demonstrate that you have valid travel insurance.

Please ensure that as a minimum your travel insurance policy covers you for medical expenses, mountain rescue and emergency repatriation in the event of illness or injury, and that your policy provides adequate cover for the activities, included and optional, you are likely to participate in during your holiday. See our brochure or website for further advice regarding holiday insurance. Whoever you insure with, please ensure that you take full details, and ideally the policy itself, with you on holiday and provide our tour leader with your insurer's name, the policy number and emergency assistance contact numbers. Please note that it is very difficult to obtain travel insurance once your holiday arrangements have started. Personal Safety The UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office provides up to date information on security and local laws for travellers, together with current passport and visa information, at www.gov.uk/travelaware. Please take a few minutes to look at the current advice on your planned destination. Please be aware of what's going on around you, take sensible precautions with your credit cards and passport and avoid displays of wealth such as wearing expensive jewellery or watches. Do not carry more cash on you than you will need for each day, and we recommend that a money belt is used. Cultural Awareness Responsible Travel We're committed to ethical tourism in all our destinations. Our holidays are designed for you to discover the essence of the country you are visiting. Travelling in small groups not only gives you an up close and personal experience of your destination, but minimises your impact on the immediate environment. We feel that the most important starting point to protect the environment is to be out in it. For more details visit our website. Heart & Sole We appreciate that we are in a fortunate position to be able to use our profits to help make a difference to people's lives. Heart & Sole is a venture managed by our office staff, whose aim is to reach the heart of the communities in the countries we visit. Through Heart & Sole, we hope to make more of a long term, direct impact to these communities, particularly in less developed countries where even a small amount goes a long way. See our website for more information and details of some of the projects we support. Communication Mobile Phones Please do provide us with a mobile phone contact number. We will only use this to contact you with important information relating to your holiday arrangements. Please do keep your mobile phones switched on and readily available when travelling to the airport or if delayed in transit so that we can contact you with any last minute information relating to your travel arrangements. As a matter of courtesy, please switch off your mobile phone during walks, or endeavour to minimise its use. Please also try to minimise the use of mobile devices during group meals. Feedback We welcome all comments about our holidays and value ideas for the future. If you have provided us with an email address we will invite you to complete an online questionnaire or to add feedback to our page on independent review site 'Feefo'. Important Information Please note that this Holiday Information sheet may be periodically updated and reissued. In most cases the revisions will be minor and the overall nature of the holiday will remain unchanged. Should we make a major change to your holiday arrangements between you booking your holiday and your date of travel we will notify you to specifically draw your attention to any significant change. You may wish to review the latest version of this Holiday Information Sheet online prior to travel. Please note that any advertised offers, benefits or initiatives may be discontinued at any time.
