SOMAPY CAMP TIMES VOLUME 12 ISSUE 2 JULY 3, 2015 Superb Camp Spirit at SOMapY! SOMapY camp spirit is at an all-time high! On Wednesday July 1st, Entertainer Bruce Fagan visited SOMapY camp with his annual camp show. Campers were thrilled with the show. Campers enjoyed dancing and singing along to the music. While having fun in their new camp groups, they formed many new friendships with other campers. With camp spirit soaring, friendships have flourished at SOMapY camp. Our overall theme this summer is Welcome to the Jungle, campers and counselors worked hard all week creating a jungle-themed group name along with a banner to represent their group. Looking ahead to Week 2 at SOMapY Camp Week 2: Amazing Race-Animal Planet Science Week (July 6 - July 10) Welcome to the Jungle! This week is sure to continue our jungle themed fun. Campers will be taking a trip to the New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium at Sandy Hook in Fort Hancock, New Jersey on Wednesday July 8th. Swimming will not take place on this day and campers will have to wear their green camp t-shirt. If you plan to drop off your camper at Maplecrest Park, please arrive between 9:009:25 am as the trip busses leave at 9:30am sharp. What does my camper need to bring for trip day? Each camper at SOMapY must wear their green camp t-shirt that was given to them the first day at camp and bring a lunch box labeled with their name. If your camper needs sunscreen (please label it with the camper s name!), please pack it along with the camper s lunch. Meet Our Staff! Junior Counselors Our junior counselors are simply the best! Lost and Found? Every Morning campers will be walked past the camp Lost and Found. If a camper s unlabeled belongings were lost at the JCC Pool, they would be in the JCC s Lost and Found. Labeled items get returned faster!! So -> Please label ALL camper belongings. Missed the Bus? No need to worry! You can drop your child off at Maplecrest Park beginning at 9:00 am. When dropping off your Camper at the park -ALWAYS sign in your child with the Camp Director. Medications? NEVER put the medication in the camper s backpack! Always hand medications in to the Bus Counselor or AM Care Coordinator or Camp Director. All medications must be turned in with a completed Permission to Administer Medication form which can be found on our website: SMountainYMCA.org Friendly Reminders: -Campers are NOT allowed to bring electronics or valuables to camp. -Be sure to check your camper s backpack each night for camp notes and ouch reports. -Their camp T-shirt will be put in their backpack on their first day at Camp. -Campers MUST wear sneakers. NO open-toed shoes or flip flops. We are outdoors most of the day; open-toed shoes are a hazard when playing outside. -ALWAYS pack a peanut/nut-free lunch. We are a peanut/nut-safe camp. -No glass containers! PLEASE include a re-usable water bottle every day! -Please keep our office up-to-date with changes to your contact information and people authorized to pick-up your child. Anyone authorized to pick-up your camper will be required to present valid identification upon signing out.
