REPORT ON INAUGURAL FUNCTION OF 150 TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION OF ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF INDIA, CHENNAI The inaugural function of the 150 th year Anniversary Celebrations of Archaeological Survey of India, was jointly organized by the Circle, and the Temple Survey Project,Museum,Science, Epigraphy branches at Chennai on 23.02.2012 at Hotel Savera. Dr.K.Raosaiah, His Excellency, Governor of Tamil Nadu inaugurated the celebrations. Thiru V.K Jeyakodi,I.A.S,Principal Secretary, Dept.of Tourism and Culture of Tamil Nadu was the Guest of Honour. Dr.B R. Mani, Additional Director General, ASI, New Delhi presided over the function. On this occasion His Excellency the Governor of Tamil Nadu, honoured 12 retired officials who worked in various fields in Archaeological Survey of India, launched the website of Chennai circle and released the following publications: 1. Report of Saluvankuppam Excavations 2005-07 2. Brochures of protected Monuments at Namakkal, Kudumiyanmalai, Temples of Kanchipuram, Great Living Chola temples, Kodumbalur, Rock cut Cave temples of the Pallavas and Archaeological Survey of India, Chennai 3. Events Celebrated During the period Dec-2011- dec-2012 (150 th anniversary of Archaeological survey of India ) by fort museum, Chennai 1. An Exhibition on Rare Antiquities & Monuments Photographs Exhibition on Rare Antiquities & Monuments Photographs ( which include photographs write ups and models ) from 25 th Jan to 29 th Jan 2012 at Vaishnava College, Arumbakkam Chennai on behalf of Fort Museum.
2. Exhibition on The World Museums A Glance Exhibition on The World Museums A Glance (It Includes the photographs and a brief about each museum and antiquity) conducted from 18 th May 2012 to 31 st May 2012 at Fort museum Chennai, on the occasion of the celebration of World Museum Day on 18 th May 2012.
3. Clay modelling Competition 15.0.6.2012 In connection with the 150 th anniversary celebrations of Archaeological Survey of India, Museum Branch, Southern Branch, Fort Museum, Chennai organised a clay modelling competition for the age group of 5 to 12. Students from various schools of Chennai were invited to participate in the same number of 203 students participated the same, further they were awarded with 1 st,2 nd and 3 rd prizes and consolation prizes for all the three groups, and the certificate of participation was awarded to each participants. Shri V.Chandrasekar, Principal Government of College of fine arts, Park Town, Chennai-3 was the chief guest for the occasion.
4. Heritage Walk on 25 th and 26 th of august 2012 In connection with the 150 th year celebration Archaeological Survey Of India Museum Branch Southern Region had conducted Heritage walk around Fort st. George. Sri. G. Chandrasakar Chairman Timal Nadu Arya vaisya Maha Sabha Presided over the function and a number of 500 students participated in the heritage walk from various School And colleges of Chennai on 25 th &26 th of august 2012
5. Sindhi College Photo Exhibition In connection with the 150 th year celebration of Archaeological Survey of India, Fort Musum, Museum Branch Southern Region in collaboration with the Sindhi College Of Arts And Science Chennai organized an photo exhibition on Madras old Madras from 27.08.201 to 29.08.2012.
