Poland Masurian Lake District Cycling Tour (2017) Individual Self-Guided OR Guided 7 days/6 nights Masuria is called "The land of a thousand lakes". Gentle hills and mighty dark forests, which cover 30% of Masuria are characteristic for this area. But above all, the lakes have shaped the face of Masuria. The largest is called Śniardwy and a measures about 110 square kilometers. All in all it is a paradise for cycling, fishing, kayakers and Masurian sailors.
Itinerary Day to Day Day 1: Welcome to Masuria Individual arrival to Wilasy in Giżycko area by bus/ train/ your own car. The representative will meet you late in the afternoon. Accommodation in a pension in Wilkasy. Guided Tour includes dinner at the hotel. Day 2: Nature and culture 56 km Today you cycle through the Masurian Lake District. We want to show you the former manor house of the East-Prussian family of Lehndorff. Through an old oak alley you will reach Sztynort and have a look at the ruins of the manor house built in 1680. It is evidence of the long Polish-German history. The old park was landscaped then, the oak alley planted and the cloister built of Ionic columns. Then, it was a custom to plant an oak tree for each child of the Lehndorff family. Today all this is regarded as a monument of culture. From the large bridge connecting lakes Mamry and Dargin we have a marvellous view over the Lake District. Return to Giżycko. Accommodation as on day 1. Day 3: Through the Masurian Lakes District by boat and/or bike Self-Guided 10 48 km Guided 20-35 km bike, 2 hours by boat To avoid the crowded roads we recommend a beautiful cruise upon the Masurian lakes. The cruise is a beautiful experience which is highly suitable for exploring the district. It will end in Mikołajki, a picturesque port called the Masurian Venice by its inhabitants. After having explored the town you cycle to your hotel. Accommodation in a hotel in the Mikołajki area. By bike with cruise 10 km, or 48 km without the cruise. Day 4: On the way to Krutyn 25 40 km Today s tour leads through the Masurian Landscape Park, a beautiful, well-known forest area in Poland. There are 850 different plants and 150 different birds to be found there (e.g. eagles, black storks, owls, herons). Pay attention for a lynx, beaver or a deer crossing your path! Cycling, you will reach your hotel. Accommodation in a pension in Krutyń.
Day 5: A paddling tour Self-Guided 15 km Guided 20 km Self-guided: Today you can go paddling on the Krutynia River (about 2.5 hours). No additional skill is required to paddle on this 90 cm deep river. In the afternoon you have time for your leisure. Accommodation as on day 4. Day 6: Through the Masurian Lakes District 30 km Self-Guided: Today you will also cycle in the Landscape Park. On the way to Mrągowo you can take a short tour through the deer farm in Kosewo Górne, where you can see deer, tarpons and beavers. Accommodation in a hotel in Mrągowo. Guided: Today we will again cycle in the Landscape Park. It will be another day for your senses.
