Estimated Departure Time Miami/Havana 9:30 AM Estimated Departure Time Havana/Miami 11:30 AM - Flight Times 1 hour 45 minutes. Exact times will be announced once enrollment for the workshop is full. Please do not book your flights to Miami until you receive an email from us. We will have a list of hotels for those participants wishing to overnight in Miami. Arrive Havana, Cuba Jose Marti International Havana After clearing customs and claiming your luggage, your tour director will be waiting to assist with your transfer to your hotel in Havana. Hotel National or similar You'll have time to relax, settle into your accommodations, take in a lunch at the hotel or local restaurant and start to explore this vibrant city. Make sure to make your way back to the hotel lounge for 5:00 PM welcome beverage and brief orientation of your days ahead with Jane along with an outline of our full time schedule of People-to People Activities for each day. Sunset Drive: Malecon + Welcome Dinner Just before sunset you'll meet outside the lobby for an evening drive along the Malecon, with the light reflecting upon the crumbling facades and waves crashing along the sea wall, you'll experience what many call the heartbeat of Havana's soul. You'll be driving in style in one of Cuba's classic cars as you make your way for an evening of welcome festivities.
Page 4 of 12 DAY 2: HABANA VIEJA + ON LOCATION ART INSTRUCTION - FEBRUARY 21 Included: Breakfast + Lunch Walking Tour Habana Vieja + On Location Art Instruction After breakfast we set out on a walking tour of Habana Vieja "Old Havana" a stunning treasure of architectural style spanning six centuries. With buildings dating from the 16th through 19th centuries, Havana is one of the most authentic colonial cities in the Americas. The four main squares are just bursting with inspiration... Plaza de Armas, Plaza de San Francisco de Asis, Plza Vieja and Plaze de la Catedral, it's hard to choose but we'll do our best to show you the most inspiring. Lunch: Hemingway's favorite: La Bodeguita del Medio After lunch we ll retrace Hemingway s footsteps as we visit small bars he favored, hear the local music, and sip an authentic Cuba libre. Sketching + Instruction will be be woven throughout your day. Dinner is at your leisure, your tour host will have plenty of ideas to experience the best of Cuba's vibrant nightlife!
Page 5 of 12 Sketching + Watercolor with Jane LaFazio Have you always wanted to keep an illustrated travel journal but never knew where to start? Or, do you love to draw and paint, and would love to travel with like-minded people? This fascinating and colorful journey to Cuba is a creative adventure you don t want to miss! Your days will be spent drawing and painting in a relaxed, fun environment with a group of like-minded travelers. Each day, Jane will demonstrate something new! She'll gently guide beginners (yes, she can teach you to draw) and experienced alike to see and capture the details and memories in a straightforward, intuitive approach with pen and watercolor. You ll create a set of watercolor journal pages as unique as your own handwriting. You ll bring home a priceless collection of small watercolors depicting your experiences and memories of your trip.
Page 6 of 12 DAY 3: FINCA VIGA + ON LOCATION ART INSTRUCTION WITH JANE - FEBRUARY 22 Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Finca Vigia ( Lookout Farm) After breakfast you depart the city for Finca Vigia in San Francisco de Paula, where Ernest Hemingway wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls and The Old Man and the Sea. View the rooms of the writers house through open windows, his typewriter and volumes of books. You'll have time to talk to the docent about his life here and his strong connections to Cuba and its people. There will be plenty of time to drink in the history as we wander and sketch on the 12-acres where Hemingway called home for over 20 years.
Page 7 of 12 Cojimar For lunch we'll take a short drive to Cojimar to one of Hemingway's favorites restaurants. La Terraza de Cojimar's were the walls are lined with photographs of Hemingway's days in Cojimar. With a fabulous view of the bay.. what could be more more inspiring! We'll break for lunch then gather for another fantastic session with Jane! Tonight you'll enjoy dinner with the group in Havana.
DAY 4: VINALES + ON LOCATION ART INSTRUCTION WITH JANE - FEBRUARY 23 Page 8 of 12 Included: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner Vinales Day Trip After breakfast you'll head west into the beautiful province of Pinar Del Rio to the famed Viñales Valley. Viñales boasts Cuba s most strikingly landscapes and is where the island s best tobacco is grown. You'll make a stop at a family-run tobacco farm and have a chance to chat with the family and learn about their lives and why their crop is among the world s best. We'll make a stop for lunch at a local organic farm, meet the family who cares for the land. Time for sketching and instruction will be woven throughout the day. You'll make your way back to Havana to enjoy dinner with the group. DAY 5: LA MURALEANDO + ART INSTRUCTION - FEBRUARY 24 Included: Breakfast
Page 9 of 12 La Muraleando! Today after breakfast will be your introduction one of the first community art projects in Havana. La Muraleando, founded by Manuel Baldrich Diaz in 2001 for the benefit of the children in his neighborhood. You'll have a chance to meet the visionary artists who have helped keep this project going throughout the years by donating their time and sharing their skills with the children of Cuba. There will be music, an informal salsa lesson and art instruction led by Jane. A stop for lunch will be made. (not included) Dinner is at your leisure, your tour host will have plenty of ideas to experience the best of Cuba's vibrant nightlife! Evening Optional Tour: Fabrica de Arte Cubano (F.A.C.) 8:00 PM - 3:00 AM. Fábrica de Arte Cubano run by Cuban musician X Alfonso, occupies the heart of Vedado nightlife and the Cuban art scene. The club, bar and gallery space was opened in the renovated old Oil factory in late 2013 and has gone on to become a corner stone of Cuban culture. The gallery space is used to exhibit Cuba's young emerging talent along with a theatre and film space. Fábrica del Art Cubano concept of making the gallery space a part of the nightlife encourages everyone to integrate themselves with art. Art is also available for purchase. DAY 6: HAVANA NATIONAL MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS - FEBRUARY 25 Included: Breakfast + Farewell Dinner Festivities Museums, Studios + Artists After a leisurely breakfast, it's a day filled with art and inspiration as you view the magnificent collection at the Museao Nacional, tour the world-renowned home and studio of Jose Fuster, and if your energy holds out you'll pay a visit to a few of Cuba's working artist studios for engaging conversations about the day and a life of a working artist in Cuba. National Museum of Fine Arts: The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes houses over 30,000 national treasures spanning from the 16th century Spanish colonial rule, through to the 1990s. This impressive collection is split into three time periods,
Colonial Art, Turn of the Century Art, Modern Art and Contemporary Art. There will be time for sketching in both the galleries and/or courtyard. Fuster s Home and Studio José Antonio Rodríguez Fuster is a world-renowned ceramist, draftsman, painter and printmaker whose home and studio draw a steady stream of tour buses and private visitors coming to marvel at the extravagant ceramic sculptures that adorn his home and the surrounding neighborhood colloquially called Fusterlandia. Fuster has made a major contribution during almost two decades of work to enliven the humble fishing village of Jaimanitas, on the western outskirts of Havana.
