Tuscan Mining Geopark The park consists of 7 municipalities in the heart of Tuscany. The Geosites of which is rich have earned it the title, of UNESCO Geopark in 2010. Its territory is a continuous succession of unique environments: geothermal manifestations, ancient mines and quarries, rivers and streams, medieval villages and castles mining. The Geodiversity is his pride and his environments are real outdoors laboratories of geology and mineralogy. In these areas several caves and tunnels have been discovered, a long mining history 3000 years long has been forged. The numerous paths interwining natural and geological aspects make it a unique place to fully immerse themselves in the authenticity of this part of Maremma. HIKING in the Tuscan Mining Geopark The breathtaking scenery of the Park that will be in front of you, will accompany you to discover a land where nature is inextricably linked to ancient history. Discover along old trails the unspoilt region of Maremma Tuscany with the slow pace of the journey. The territory is crossed by a dense network of dirt roads and paths, which have been in the past the only way of existing communications between various towns. The paths wind through the beautiful coastline and the Mediterranean Sea up to go the verdant inland hills. With these changes the vegetation that slowly adapts to cooler temperatures is pleasant, especially in summer. Most are easily passable hiking trails through some stretches of dirt roads, but it can happen sometimes to cross more difficult passages between the dense vegetation. We recommend to bring hiking boots suitable for every kind of path. Our trekking routes will be accompanied by professional licenced environmental guides. Mountain Bike The Mountain bike is a special vehicle that allows to enter in synergy with the wonder and beauty of nature offering the possibility to reach unique places. We are talking of the Tuscan Mining Geopark in Maremma, what to say about geothermal vapors of Monterotondo Marittimo, about the trails overlooking the beautiful sea of Follonica and Scarlino, about the paths that climb to the summit of Cornate of Gerfalco, about the Etruscan who have left their traces on the banks of the uncontaminated Accesa Lake, about, what is in the paths of the mines of Massa Marittima passing by the theatre of the rocks in Gavorrano. We re talking about nature, colours that merge with breathtaking scenery any time of the year, you can add to the rides dishes from the typical Maremma cuisine, cheeses, wine, oil. FLAVOURS & CULTURE Massa Marittima The tradition of good taste and flavor is born in beautiful places: discover it means crossing vineyards and beautiful scenery, along the charming streets, linger in historic villages. The history and art are capable of binding by any means creating spaces and architectures that mark the time. These bonds represent more than just a tourist event: have a knowledge of the land instrument, its culture, art and traditions. A day experiencing this inseparable pair strolling within the ancient walls of Massa Marittima. The Cathedral of San Cerbone, a real pride of the city, the Palazzo del Podesta, the Tower of Candlestick and all the other historic buildings are built with travertine which gives it a particular color of ashes. A careful observation of this beautiful rock formation in the arts will reveal some of the hidden secrets behind its convoluted plots. It will allow us to speak of the formation of the soil and its peculiarities.
