Welcome At a time when so much of the world seems to be stuck in overdrive, it s good to know that there are still places like Prince Edward Island National Park. Now that you ve arrived on our shores, set your watch to Island Time and take a deep breath. Savour the warmth of the sun on your face and let the sound of the gently rolling surf and the carefree chatter of the gulls wash away the stresses of the world you left behind. This stretch of the Island s North Shore is rich with all the things that come to mind when you think of the Maritimes - quaint fishing harbours, picturesque lighthouses and friendly people who welcome you as one of their own - but much of this place could only be Prince Edward Island. The many shades of green that colour our fields and forests, the sparkling gold of sunlight as it dances on the waves that sculpt our sandy shores and the crimson hues of day s end upon the rugged cliffs of our coastline make this a place all its own. We are proud to be your hosts; the locals who share the best kept secrets about this magical place and the stewards who work to ensure that these pristine beaches and vibrant landscapes will remain as storybook perfect as you see them today, ready to welcome the next generation of dreamers and explorers. 0 ESCAPE ESCAPE ESCAPE ESCAPE Rip Current Safety Learn how to Break the Grip of the Rip CURRENT RIP CURRENT CURRENT Rip currents are powerful, fast-moving seaward currents that can pull even the strongest swimmers out to sea. Be safe: Know how to swim, never swim alone, and when in doubt, don t go out. If you become caught in a rip current: Don t fight the current Swim out of the current, then to shore If you can t escape, float or tread water If you need help, call or wave for assistance Parks Canada and its service providers make every reasonable effort to mark areas that are known to have rip currents; however, there may be other such areas that are not marked. Help Protect the Sand Dunes: Walk & Play Elsewhere The waving blades of marram grass play an important role. Their roots form a living net that slows the movement of blowing sand and helps with the formation of the dunes. Marram grass is killed with only 10 footsteps. When the grass is gone, the sand is free to move around, which causes blowouts and makes the dunes more susceptible to erosion from storms. Do your part to keep the dunes as beautiful tomorrow as they are today: stick to designated paths and remind your friends and family of the damage they can cause by climbing or walking on the dunes.

1 Take a walk through the setting of Canada s bestselling novel of all time, Anne of Green Gables! Written by Island author L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables has never been out of print since it was first published more than 100 years ago. The tale of a spunky, redheaded orphan who comes to live with an elderly brother and sister at their family home called Green Gables, the book has found its way into the hearts of millions of readers the world over. Today, fans of the book flock to Green Gables to immerse themselves in the storybook landscape, find the source of Montgomery s inspiration, and fulfill a lifelong dream of seeing the places they read about firsthand. Begin your visit with a short film about Montgomery s experiences in Cavendish and explore the many exhibits in the Visitors Centre, including early editions of the novel as well as the very typewriter she used to craft her literary masterpieces. Then, step outside and walk back in time to explore the imaginary world of Anne. The house and grounds have been lovingly restored and decorated in exquisite detail to match the world Montgomery described. Retrace Montgomery s footsteps down beautiful Lover s Lane, bravely venture down the path of the Haunted Wood and don t miss the chance to take part in the fun programs offered throughout the summer months that are sure to appeal to kindred spirits of all ages. Finally, no visit to Green Gables would be complete without a stop at the Butter Churn Café for a delicious treat and a bottle of raspberry cordial an excruciatingly delightful way to end the day, as Anne might say!
