DAY 1: USA - FORT DE FRANCE (Friday) Fly to Fort de France, Martinique. This island is truly a little bit of France in the French Caribbean Islands. A Forum Representative will meet you at the airport and help you transfer to the school France Langue in Fort de France. Meet your host families and get settled in. While living with a host family, you will find that French is more than just a textbook language. It becomes a living and working language, spoken and written daily. You will eat French Indies food, meet French people and have an excellent opportunity to practice your French in real life situations. Enjoy your first evening with your host family. DAY 2: FORT DE FRANCE (Saturday) Breakfast with your family. Today, head to the regional capital, Fort de France. Accompanied by a local guide, you will discover the key of Fort de France s Heritage and History. Stroll in the Grand Marché in Fort-de-France. Beneath its vast metal and glass canopy, you ll be welcomed by an explosion of colours and scents. At lunch time, partake in a Cooking Class! With instructions from a qualified chef, learn how to make a simple traditional Caribbean dishes in small groups. Taste what you created! This afternoon, enter the Bibliotheque Schoelcher, a Romanesque, Byzantine-style library and architectural wonder (designed by Gustave Eiffel, after whom the Eiffel Tower was named), was built for the Paris Exposition of 1889. In 1895, it was shipped, piece by piece, and reassembled in Fort-de-France. Continue your day with a visit of the Saint Louis Cathedral. Have some free time for shopping. Return your host family for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 3: CATAMARAN CRUISE (Sunday) Breakfast with your family. Today you will board a catamaran for a day cruise around the Northern part of the island. You ll stop in a charming cove where you ll be able to swim in turquoise water, snorkel or just relax in the shade of the palms. A Creole lunch will be served on board. Continue your cruise along the coast to discover the beautiful coves. Stop to visit the town of St. Pierre. Enjoy the sunset on board to the rhythms of Caribbean music. DAY 4: TROPICAL ADVENTURE IN A 4X4 (Monday) After breakfast with your family, head North with your guide to discover the tropical part of Martinique.
In 4x4 jeeps, drive through the sugar cane fields and banana plantations. Have a typical Creole lunch in a restaurant next to the Montagne Pelée. DAY 5: SCHOOL VISIT & LA SAVANE DES ESCLAVES (Tuesday) Breakfast with your host family. Spend the morning at a public high school and meet local students. Here you will learn a bit more about the differences between what school is like in Martinique and the United States. Free time for lunch. Later, visit the sugarcane museum, located in an old distillery. It traces the evolution of sugarcane during the last three centuries. Then, discover la savane des esclaves, an old-time village with traditional huts and plantations dating from the 1800s. Delve in the heart of these homes to learn the history and traditions of Martinique. DAY 6: THE MANGROVE OF MARTINIQUE (Wednesday) Breakfast with your host family. Meet your tour manager before going to Anse Cafard Slave Memorial. High on a hill in southwest Martinique are 20 white stone effigies, silently facing the Caribbean Sea. They commemorate the catastrophe that took place in 1830 when a slave ship failed to properly anchor in Anse Cafard and careened into Martinique s Diamond Rock Mountain, killing many of the passengers and sailors as well as the slaves who were chained to the cargo hold. Continue on to Marin, a town on the East Coast of the Island. Free time for lunch. This afternoon, experience a Nature Tour. Martinique is a multi-faceted island that not only counts with beautiful white sand beaches, it has a totally different type of ecosystem only a few kilometers away: the Mangrove. Take a guided boat tour and discover the exceptional flora and fauna that live in the mangrove: crabs and birds among many others! At the end of the excursion, you will stop on a small island, l ilet Robinson, for pleasant refreshments and snacks. DAY 7: DEPART (Thursday) After breakfast say a fond au revoir to your French host family. Board your private motor coach and transfer to the Fort de France airport for your flight back to the USA.
