GPSMAP 695 Introduction

Overview taken from Press Release The GPSMAP 695 is an all new, tablet-style device with a large, 7-inch portrait screen. The high-resolution, sunlight readable screen uses Garmin s latest technology to ensure that pilots will be able to read the vibrant display day or night. The bezel that frames the bright screen has multiple keys on the bottom and right sides. The soft keys at the bottom of the display control the most commonly used features of the current page, such as turning the patented Panel display on/off. The dedicated keys on the display s right side have specific functions such as nearest, direct to, flight plan, zoom in/out and menu. Also on the display s right side is a rotary knob/joystick, similar to the G1000 s joystick, that lets pilots enter airport identifiers, pan the map, or scroll to page and sub-page groups. Thanks to the GPSMAP 695 s IFR map mode, pilots will have the opportunity to have IFR sectional maps virtually displayed in a large screen format. This mode displays a map similar to a standard enroute chart that has important features like High and Low airways, minimum enroute altitude (MEA) and leg distance. The 695 s IFR map mode also offers more situational awareness than traditional charts because it subtlety displays major visual reference points like rivers, country boundaries, roads and railways and town outlines from Garmin s built-in basemap. Other popular features found on the GPSMAP 695 include Airspace declutter, Smart Airspace, VRP s and a large database of private airports, helipads and obstacles covering Europe. During flight, Garmin s Smart Airspace automatically highlights airspace close to the pilot s current altitude and de-emphasizes airspace away from the current altitude, which ultimately aids in situational awareness. Searchable VRP s (Visual Reporting Points) allows the pilot to select from the database prior to flight a known VRP and insert it directly into a route or selection from the Nearest page allows quick access to VRP s within the aircrafts vacinity.

Features of the GPSMAP 695 This presentation is designed to highlight exciting new features of the GPSMAP 695 and how they work. You may obtain a copy of this presentation from www.garmin.co.uk under the GPSMAP 695 product page.

Rotating Joystick Clockwise Used to scroll through the 4 main pages. Used when entering information such as Airport identifier.

Rotating Joystick Anti-clockwise Moves back through pages of system.

Moving Joystick Right Allows panning on the map page. Also used for moving cursor in data searches. Both right

Moving Joystick Left and left.

Moving Joystick Up Up

Moving Joystick Down and down, including the diagonals.

Push the Cursor Joystick Pushing the cursor is like the back up key. To confirm data entry the ENT button needs to be pressed.

Map page At zoom levels of 50NM or more you will then see a satellite view on the map.

Waypoint Page Large layout of all airport or Waypoint data.

Terrain Page Large display of Terrain and the addition of a profile page.

INFO Page Information page containing satellite status.

Physical Dimensions 480 Pixels 800 Pixels 7 Diagonal, VGA display Over 3 times the amount of display space over a 296/495/496 (6.7 sq inches verses 21.6 sq inches)

Power Button on top left of unit. Hold button down to turn on/off Power Button

Power Button also the BRIGHTNESS Power Button When switched on Press Power Button once. Then use Joystick to control the Backlight and Volume setting.

10 is the Brightest setting. The unit has high brightness LED backlighting for great sunlight readability.

Connections to the GPSMAP 695 MCX Connector for External Antenna Mini USB Port for connection to computer SD Card slot (expandable memory) 2.5 m Audio Output socket External Power socket for Power/data or Cigarette Lighter adaptor

Dedicated IFR Page The Map can display HIGH Airways. Touching the airway with the curser identifies the name and MEA (Minimum enroute altitude).

Dedicated IFR Page Map can display Low Airways.

Traditional VFR Page The familiar GPSMAP VFR page remains. But much larger in size.

IFR Map with Panel added New IFR map option has been added.

VFR Map with Panel Added Panels can be added to the map pages.

Database updates can now be performed through the new fly.garmin.com website. fly.garmin.com

Smart Airspace The GPSMAP 695 also has Smart Airspace. This means that we change the boldness of the airspace depending on your altitude. It allows quicker situational awareness on the map to view impending airspace that is relative to your current altitude.

Relative Terrain Obstacles/Towers database. Relative terrain can now be added to the moving map simultaneously. This, instead of this:

Layered Mapping Easy access to layered map information. When panning the map, if multiple airspace/other data is available under the curser, twisting the knob lets you easily access all data available under the curser one at a time.

fpl Soft Menu keys. Prompt actions can be taken without having multiple key presses.

menu The menu is self explanatory. Use the joystick to move up and down the page. ENT key activates the choice.

menu Make sure that customers setup their aircraft profile. It sets the rest of the system up like the panel page for speed ranges. Also there are 4 aircraft symbols that can be chosen. HIGH WING.

Jet menu

Twin menu

menu Low Wing

Selecting VRP s from database One note for customers. You need to enter the name of the VRP on the second line. We have created an identifier but it will not been known from charts.

Nearest VOR s In the description it shows which radial the aircraft is on from the VOR. Great benefit for pilots is that the selected VOR has a line drawn to it from the present position.

Nearest Airports When an airport is highlighted from the menu a line connecting the aircrafts present position and that airport

Nearest Cities We have a dedicated Nearest Cities page clearly depicting names and distances as well as a graphical picture showing the city in relation to the aircraft.

Connects to SL30/40 for communications The GPSMAP 695 can be stacked together With the SL30/40 for transfer of frequency data for active waypoints (airports) or Navaids Will accept flight plan waypoints from a GNS 430/530.

Large format WPT viewing page In the WPT page all information for the selected airport is displayed rather than scrolling through different tabs A great advantage of having a large screen format

Airport Traffic Pattern display In order to view airport traffic patterns PRESS the CRSR key. Then scroll down to highlight the runway. The traffic pattern will appear in the map window to the right.
