- 2 - Issue 10, February 2006 - Website: http://www.lewisskiclub.org Hello Lewis Ski Club! We've got some great trips coming up: - Bristol, the weekend of Feb 24 (two day trip) - Holiday Valley, Friday, Mar 3 - Cockaigne, Saturday, Mar 11 - Morzine and Amsterdam, the week of Mar 17 (11 day trip) The Holimont trip was a big success from what I heard and by the time you get this our Seven Springs trip should be coming up shortly. The deadline to reserve a space has passed. Don't let the lack of snow in Cleveland lately keep you from the slopes. There is plenty in New York. The folks who went on the Vail trip should be getting back soon too. I'm sure we'll hear what a wonderful time they had at the next meeting. For you Nordic folk, the Enduro Race is on Sunday, Feb 26. Don't forget, we'll be forming a Constitution Review Committee and a Nomination Committee at the February meeting. The Constitution Review Committee will review the Constitution and propose amendments at the March meeting for a vote at the April meeting. The Nomination Committee will solicit nominations for the Executive Board. Those nominees will be voted on at the April meeting also. Give some thought about serving on one of these committees or running for a position on the Executive Board. The next Board meeting is February 21st. It's going to be held at Boston Mils instead of Frankie s so we can go skiing afterwards. Feel free to come. Board meetings aren't just for the board. It'll also give you some insight into how the board and committees work if your thinking about running for office. A committee was formed at the last Board meeting to plan and run the picnic. It currently consists of Mark Hyatt, Annie Easley and Mike Kaltenstein. If you're interested in helping with this year's picnic, let them know. We're going to raffle off another one day ski trip at the meeting. See you there. Your President, Tim 2

- 4 - Issue 10, February 2006 - Website: http://www.lewisskiclub.org Nordic News Unfortunately, 2006 is starting out to be a disappointing Nordic season. The "Learn to Nordic Ski" event, originally scheduled for January 14, had to be cancelled due to lack of snow. The Pine Lodge rental center has been closed since about January 7, and the trails have been bare ground during this time. By the way, Chapin is open for hiking year round, so consider that alternative. The weekend trip to Canaan Valley WVa, originally scheduled for February 17-20, had to be cancelled due to insufficient sign-ups. Linda Elonen-Wright would still like to drive out to Canaan Valley during this time, with anyone who may be interested in going. Feel free to telephone Linda at (216)433-9370 for more detailed information. As of this writing, the Nordic Flurry Race originally scheduled for January 29 has been officially cancelled. Skiing will resume at Chapin Forest as soon as snow conditions improve. Call the Lake County Metroparks Winter Sports Hotline at (440)954-4178 for the latest conditions at Chapin. The voice recording is updated daily, and indicates what is open and what is not. The 2006 Enduro Race will take place at the YMCA Outdoor Family Center. The Enduro will take place on Sunday February 26th. Please contact me if you have any interest in joining the NASA nordic team. This is to be fun event. If you can ski, we will take you! Please telephone me at (216)977-7423, or email to thomas.haag@grc.nasa.gov Tom Haag Nordic V.P. Report from Holimont trip on Jan. 20 We skied with NASA on Friday and the conditions were absolutely wonderful. It was warm and Holimont has kept up with the main hills. It didn't rain and we skied all day. Please let everyone know that is in doubt that Holimont was great and with the weather being a little colder this week, they will be making more snow. Believe me, the snow was great and there were 50 people on our bus that had a great time with NASA. They even had a waiting list. Phyllis 4
