Bourton 6th July 2016 Dear Parent/Guardian Humanities Faculty Residential Trip to Battlefields in Northern France and Belgium Estimated dates: October Half Term 2017 (dates tbc by Shropshire Council) We are pleased to announce our intention to take our biannual Humanities Faculty residential field trip to see the Battlefields of Northern Europe to mark the 100 year anniversary of the Battle of the Somme. This will be an educational visit, which forms part of our enrichment programme within the Faculty, and we hope that the challenges that the week provides will spur them on to considerable achievements. The trip is being offered to all students who are in Years 8 and 9. The History Department has run this trip several times in the past and we know that it is a very popular trip so it is likely that a reserve list will have to be drawn up in the event that we exceed the maximum student capacity of 45 students. The staff: student ratio is 1:8 for this residential due it being a coach-based trip. Travel Company: We intend to travel with Halsbury Travel, which has an outstanding reputation in the Geographic community and the school has used for many school trips in previous visits to Europe. Their service is superb. Halsbury Travel is endorsed as a Learning Outside the Classroom (LOTC) company and is ATOL and ABTA affiliated. Halsbury Travel only uses accommodation, excursions and transport with all the necessary insurance and safety certificates and suppliers who have passed the necessary audits. On their trips, health and safety issues are of paramount importance. To that end there is a full and comprehensive Safety Management System. Costs: The total non-refundable price for a 4 day trip with 3 nights residential pays for all transport, full board accommodation in the Hotel Poppies d'albert, Menin Gate Hotel or Salient Hotel Ypres, 4 days of museum visits, local guides, museum entry fees and travel insurance is 245.00, which is due in instalments. This represents outstanding value for money.
