Venue and dates The ICAO Seminar on the Implementation of Aeronautical Surveillance and Automation Systems in the SAM Region will be held at the Hotel Edelweiss, Quintral Room, in San Carlos de Bariloche, Argentina, from 6 to 8 December 2010, sponsored by the Administración Nacional de Aviación Civil (ANAC) of Argentina. 2. SUR & AUTO-IP/01-2 - 6. Opening session The opening of the Seminar will be on Monday, 6 December 2010, at 08:45, in Quintral Room, Hotel Edelweiss. 7. Passport, visa and vaccination requirements A valid passport is required to enter Argentina. Citizens from certain countries require no visa. Visitors of most countries are granted a 90-day stay and do not require a visa, only a passport. Citizens from neighbouring countries do not require passport, only an identity card. To this effect, participants are kindly requested to complete the formalities well in advance in order to obtain entry visa from the respective Argentinean embassy or consulate. In addition, to enter Argentina, it is required that people from certain countries get some vaccination. Please contact the Argentinean embassy or consulate in the home country to enquire on the matter. 8. Temperature In San Carlos de Bariloche, the temperature ranges from 20 C to 5 C during the month of December, with a 13 C average and 3mm rainfall. 9. Exchange rate The Argentinean currency is the Peso Argentino (ARS). The current exchange rate is approximately ARS3.90 per US$1.00. It would be convenient to change money in Buenos Aires to obtain a better rate per Dollar or Euro, even though in Bariloche there is wide acceptance for the American dollar. In addition, official money exchange houses open every day of the week. Travellers cheques are not recommended due to the high cost of its use. 10. Credit cards The following international credit cards are accepted in most stores and restaurants: American Express, Master Card, Visa, Diners Club, etc. 11. SUR & AUTO-IP/01-4 - 15. Commercial hours Commercial hours are from 09:00 to 18:00 hours. Some shops are open from 10:00 to 23:00 hours, approximately. 16. Electricity Electricity in Argentina is 220 Volts, 50 Cycles. Power outlets have either 2 cylindrical holes or 2 flat holes with ground connection. Foreigners are recommended to travel with an adapter for these power outlets in order to use the electric equipment without problems. 17. Airport tax The airport departure tax (tasa de embarque) at Ezeiza or Aeroparque Jorge Newbery is of US$29.00 for international flights and US$8.00 for regional flights and to Uruguay. 18. Communications In Argentina, international calls are relatively economical and efficient. Public telephones work with coins and/or telephone cards. In Bariloche, there is a wide offer of public telephone and Internet services at most lodgings, notwithstanding their category. In the city, there are calling centres (locutorios) to obtain information, make collect calls and purchase pre-paid telephone cards. Argentina counts with well-developed data communication services. The e-mail and the Internet are well disseminated. The city has Cybercafés with Internet connection. 19. Other information Sales tax [impuesto al valor agregado (IVA)]: applied to shopping, restaurants and other services, is of 21% and is mostly included in the total price. Tips: Argentina has no fixed rule with regard to tips. In general, an extra 10% of the bill is left at bars and restaurants, depending on the service received. It is not a custom to leave tips to the taxi drivers, except when he/she has helped with the baggage or the passenger wishes to round-up the price. In other services, it is not compulsory to leave tips and it is up to oneself to give it or not. - END -
