This spectacular, interactive museum allows the visitor to go back in time on a virtual journey and relive in chronological sequence the archipelago s great historic events, from its volcanic birth 14 million years ago to the first hydroplane landing in Madeira, from the times of the Infant D. Henrique to Napoleon and Churchill. The permanent exhibitions feature the themes: Volcanic Origin, Discovery Legends, Discovering Madeira, Turmoil and Trade, Strategic Island, Flourishing Madeira, Post-navigation Era and Exploring Madeira. Taking you on an extremely fascinating voyage through times, some departments of the exhibition summarize whole centuries, while others tell in details about one specific event only. Page 7 of 12 Private Full Day Tour in Funchal City and Monte with Tobbogans Our first tour in Funchal & Monte. We start our tour at the local market, at the entrance you will bewelcomed by the flower sellers wearing the bright traditional customs. Fruits and vegetables stands are placed around a central patio and, at the bottom of the stairs, you will find the fish marked, where, among other species caught in this part of the Atlantic, you will see the amazing espada fish. At the embroidery factory you will be able to see the beautiful designs created and transferred to the cloth and then the finishing process. The road will then take us to Monte where we have the opportunity of enjoying the shade of its big sycamores, or walk through the gardens that have flowers all year round, and finally, climb the long stairs to the Church of Our Lady of the Monte. The best way to get back down to Funchal is by taking one of the carros de cestos (toboggans), which make their way down the sharply winding the curves. Breakfast; Lunch; PORTO MONIZ TOUR - APRIL 24
